Halifax is a city where the airport is far enough from downtown that the journey is a decision, not an afterthought. Halifax Stanfield International Airport (YHZ) sits in Goffs, and the airport authority describes it as approximately 40 kilometres from downtown Halifax. That distance is why a Halifax airport limo is a sensible booking rather than a luxury: a fixed fare for a 40 km run, a driver who tracks your flight, and a vehicle waiting after the long haul from Toronto, Europe or the Caribbean.

This page explains how YHZ chauffeur pickups work, what the main routes cost in Canadian dollars (always a range, before tax), and when the Route 320 bus or a taxi is the better call. The booker shows the exact all-in fare for the exact address before you commit.

How much is a Halifax airport limo from Stanfield to downtown?

A sedan from Halifax Stanfield to downtown Halifax is $190–$225 and a Luxury SUV is $235–$285, for about 40 km that typically takes 30 to 45 minutes. A taxi is cheaper for one person; a private car wins with luggage, groups or a tight schedule.

The reason the Halifax fare is higher than at most airports is simple arithmetic: 40 km at $4.65–$5.55 per kilometre clears the usual minimum. The fare is the same whether you are going to the waterfront, a hotel near Citadel Hill or the South End.

What to expect when you land at Halifax Stanfield

YHZ is a single-terminal airport with a drop-off and pick-up area in front of the terminal. The airport authority describes the drop-off area as having separate zones for domestic and international flights and for direct U.S. flights, and it notes that vehicles must not be left unattended at the curb. Pre-arranged vehicles are different: the airport states that pre-arranged taxis and limousines must be booked before the passenger arrives, and that curbside airport car service is available outside Arrivals.

Your process is straightforward:

  1. You land and clear customs if your flight is international.
  2. You collect your bags and message your driver.
  3. Your driver meets you at the pre-arranged point, or inside the arrivals hall with a name board if you add the $100–$150 meet-and-greet.
  4. You ride to your address at the fare you were quoted.

The airport's taxi and limo page sets out those rules and lists the licensed pre-arranged drivers.

U.S. preclearance and international connections at Halifax

Stanfield is the only airport in Atlantic Canada with U.S. preclearance, as the airport's facts page states, and U.S. Customs and Border Protection includes Halifax in its list of Canadian preclearance sites. If you are flying to the United States, you are inspected here before you board. For a private car, that means leaving for the airport with margin: allow extra time before a U.S.-bound flight.

For arrivals, domestic passengers have no border step. International passengers clear Canadian customs, which is why our free wait after landing is 60 minutes on international arrivals and 30 minutes on domestic. Flight tracking is included, so a delayed flight or a diversion does not cost you a pickup.

The Route 320 bus, taxi and limo compared at YHZ

The honest comparison first: a taxi or the bus is cheaper than a private car. Whether they are better depends on how you travel.

Pre-booked private car (LimousineCanada.ca)Sedan $190–$225, SUV $235–$28530–45 minLuggage, families, groups, late arrivals

The bus. The airport's buses and shuttles page lists the Halifax Transit Regional Express 320 between the airport and downtown Halifax, with an adult cash fare of $4.75 and exact change required. Tickets are also sold at the Ground Transportation Booth in Arrivals, which the airport describes as open 24/7, and through Halifax Transit's HFXGO app. Baggage is allowed on board. You may see the service referred to locally by other names, so confirm the route number.

The taxi. Discover Halifax says taxi fares start at $64 to downtown and vary by drop-off location, and that you can get a fixed rate by asking for a taxi at the Ground Transportation booth in Arrivals. Its airport transport guide also lists the 320. For one person with one bag, a taxi is a fair price.

The private car. The extra cost over a taxi buys flight tracking, a driver who handles the bags, a vehicle sized for your party and a fixed price booked in advance. At two or three travellers the per-person gap narrows, and for a family or a group it often disappears.

Halifax airport to Pier 21 and the cruise terminal

In the cruise season, ships berth at the Halifax Seaport on the downtown waterfront, close to Pier 21, the Canadian Museum of Immigration. A cruise passenger flying into YHZ on the morning of embarkation should not leave the transfer to chance. Aim to arrive the day before, or, if you must fly in on the day, choose a flight that lands at least four hours before the ship's all-aboard time.

The fare to the Seaport is the same band as downtown Halifax: sedan $190–$225, SUV $240–$295. For disembarkation days, we can schedule an airport run to match your flight, with luggage handling at the terminal. See our Halifax Pier 21 cruise page for the port-side detail.

Halifax airport limo to Dartmouth, Bedford and the Halifax suburbs

Dartmouth sits across the harbour, and from Stanfield you reach it without going through the Halifax peninsula. That saves time and money: the fare is a little lower than downtown Halifax, at $150–$180 for a sedan. Bedford and Sackville are closer still to the airport corridor along Highway 102, and many trips fall at or near the minimum fare.

If you are staying near Burnside or in the Dartmouth Crossing area for business, mention the exact building when you book, so that the driver can use the correct entrance and parking area.

Halifax airport to Peggy's Cove

Peggy's Cove is the most photographed lighthouse in the province, about 44 km from downtown Halifax by road and around 70 km from the airport along the route we use. The village is small, and parking can be tight in summer. Your driver can drop you close to the lighthouse and wait, so you are not stuck at a car park that has filled up.

Peggy's Cove lighthouse on the granite shore

A word of caution: the black rocks around the lighthouse are slippery when wet, and waves can be dangerous. Stay back from the water.

For a half-day, hire the car by the hour: Luxury SUV at $175–$210 per hour with a two-hour minimum. For a straight transfer, the sedan fare is $325–$390. Public transit does not reach the village, so a car is the simple answer.

Halifax airport to Lunenburg, Mahone Bay and the South Shore

Lunenburg, the UNESCO-listed old town with its colourful waterfront, is about 100 km from Halifax and, going straight from the airport, about 110 km. The drive takes roughly an hour and twenty minutes to an hour and forty. Mahone Bay and Chester sit along the same highway.

A sedan runs $510–$610 and a Luxury SUV $645–$775. A Sprinter for a wedding party or a corporate retreat is $910–$1,090. Return trips are common, so book both legs together and your driver will be confirmed for the trip home.

Halifax airport to Wolfville and the Annapolis Valley

Wolfville is about 100 km from Halifax. From the airport the road runs around the city and out Highway 101, taking 1 hour 10 to 1 hour 30 minutes. It is the base for Acadia University and the Annapolis Valley's wineries, and a private car lets you do a tasting and not drive. Hourly service is the better arrangement for a winery visit: the car waits, and you decide when to leave.

Sedan $490–$585, SUV $615–$745, Sprinter $870–$1,045.

Halifax airport to Truro

Truro is the gateway to the Bay of Fundy and the Cobequid shore, about 57 km north of the airport, a 40 to 50 minute drive. It is a common run for business and family visits, and for travellers connecting to the Northumberland Strait shore. Sedan $265–$315, SUV $330–$405. If you are planning to continue to Cape Breton, ask us about a quote on a longer route.

Halifax airport limo for business, defence and project travel

Halifax has a steady flow of corporate, naval and academic visitors, and many of them land in the evening after a connection through Toronto or Montréal. For these trips, the 40 km run is the last obstacle between the flight and a bed. A chauffeur who has tracked your flight takes that obstacle away: you walk out, the car is there, and the bags are handled.

If your company books for several people, send us the flight numbers and the hotel. We can arrange individual sedans or combine arrivals into a single Luxury SUV or Sprinter if the flights land within an hour of one another. Invoices can be itemised with the flight number and pickup time, which helps with expense reports.

Weddings, golf groups and South Shore events from YHZ

The South Shore and the Annapolis Valley host weddings, reunions and golf weekends in summer and early autumn. A guest list that lands on two or three flights is easier to manage with one coordinated booking: we can send a Sprinter for the main group and a sedan or SUV for the late arrivals, all tracked from the same booking reference.

If you are planning a wedding with a hired limousine for the couple, the stretch limousine is $225–$300 per hour with a three-hour minimum. Ask in the booker about timings for photographs and the venue arrival.

Weather, fog and winter driving in Nova Scotia

Atlantic weather is the largest variable. Fog can slow flights in the morning, winter storms can close the highway for a few hours, and post-tropical storms in autumn affect schedules. Because the airport is 40 km out, a storm that barely touches downtown can be more serious at the airport side.

We track your flight, and the pickup moves with it. If a storm is forecast, tell us your hard deadline, and we will advise on whether to leave earlier. Winter tyres are normal practice in Nova Scotia, and your driver will not take a chance on a closed road.

What is the cheapest way to get from Halifax airport to downtown?

The Halifax Transit Route 320 Regional Express bus, at $4.75 for an adult with exact change, or tickets from the Ground Transportation Booth. It is slow and not ideal with large luggage. A taxi starts at about $64.

Is an airport limo worth it at Halifax Stanfield?

Because the airport is far from downtown, a fixed fare and a driver who tracks your flight is useful, particularly with luggage, a family or a late arrival. For a solo traveller with a carry-on, the bus or a taxi is cheaper.

How long do you wait if my flight is delayed?

Do you provide child seats?

Yes, free on request when you book. Tell us the age and weight of each child.
