A Toronto to Buffalo airport car service exists because of arithmetic. Flights from Buffalo Niagara International Airport (BUF) are often cheaper than the same journey from Toronto Pearson, and the airport is only a short drive from the Canadian border. Whether the saving survives the trip to Buffalo is a question worth asking before you book. This page gives the fare ranges for a chauffeured transfer, explains the border formalities, compares the alternatives fairly, and tells you plainly when driving yourself or flying from Pearson is the better plan.
How much is a car from Toronto to Buffalo airport?
{answer}Toronto to Buffalo Niagara airport is about 160 km from Pearson and about 175 km from downtown Toronto. On the LimousineCanada.ca rate card that is roughly $745–$890 from Pearson and $815–$970 from downtown in an Executive Sedan, before tax. The online booker returns the all-in fare for the pickup address you enter.{/answer}
The airport lists its address as 4200 Genesee Street, Buffalo, NY 14225. The distances below run via the QEW to the Peace Bridge and then to the terminal, and they are approximate. A wait in the border queue is waiting time, and we price it when you book.
| From | Distance | Drive without the border | Sedan | SUV | Sprinter |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Toronto Pearson to Buffalo airport (BUF) | about 160 km | 1 h 45 min–2 h 15 min | $745–$890 | $935–$1,130 | $1,320–$1,585 |
| Downtown Toronto to BUF | about 175 km | 2 h–2 h 30 min | $815–$970 | $1,025–$1,235 | $1,445–$1,730 |
| Mississauga or Oakville to BUF | about 140 km | 1 h 30 min–2 h | $650–$775 | $820–$985 | $1,155–$1,385 |
| Hamilton to BUF | about 115 km | 1 h 15 min–1 h 45 min | $535–$640 | $675–$810 | $950–$1,140 |
| Niagara Falls, Ontario to BUF | about 55 km | 45 min–1 h 15 min | $255–$305 | $320–$390 | $455–$545 |
Add the border to every estimate. The Peace Bridge posts its crossing conditions on its website, and a quick crossing can take minutes while a busy holiday morning can take much longer.
Documents: what every passenger needs
All passengers need acceptable travel documents. Per the Government of Canada's travel advice, Canadian citizens aged 16 and over entering the United States by land must present a valid passport or a Trusted Traveler Program card. Younger Canadians can present a passport, a birth certificate or a citizenship certificate. The page adds that U.S. authorities strictly enforce entry requirements. See the travel.gc.ca guide for the United States.

Visitors from other countries must meet U.S. entry rules, and some will need a visa or an electronic authorization. Check with U.S. Customs and Border Protection before you travel. A chauffeur cannot take a passenger across without the right documents, so check them before the pickup.
If you are flying out of Buffalo to a U.S. destination, you clear U.S. entry at the bridge, so there is no separate customs stop at the airport. The airport itself notes this as one of the reasons Canadians choose it.
The Peace Bridge, the Rainbow Bridge and the route
The usual route follows the Queen Elizabeth Way through Niagara to the Peace Bridge at Fort Erie, which connects to Buffalo. The Peace Bridge Authority says all of its toll lanes are cashless and that tolls are collected only for Canada-bound traffic, which means a Toronto to Buffalo trip crosses without a bridge toll, and a return trip pays one. The site also posts live wait times for the Peace Bridge, the Rainbow Bridge in Niagara Falls, and the Whirlpool Bridge. See the Peace Bridge website for the current conditions.
The chauffeur picks a bridge on the day, based on the posted waits. The Rainbow Bridge is a sensible alternative if the Peace Bridge is backed up. Switching bridges adds a few kilometres, but it can save a lot of time.
Once across, the airport is a short drive from the Peace Bridge, and the airport describes itself as a few miles from the Canadian border and the QEW. The run from the border to the terminal is a short one, and your chauffeur knows the approach.
Is flying from Buffalo cheaper than flying from Toronto?
Sometimes, and the airport makes the case itself. Buffalo's website states that nearly two million Canadians used the Buffalo and Niagara airports in the last year, that peak security waits average about 12 minutes, and that a comparison for a party of four flying to Orlando showed a saving of $335.99, or 34%, against Toronto Pearson. That analysis uses third-quarter 2024 fares and the airport's own methodology, and it notes that fares, parking, exchange rates and fees can change.

Apply that to a chauffeured transfer. A sedan from Pearson to BUF is $745–$890 each way before tax, so a return costs roughly twice that. A saving of $335 on the fares will not cover it. The private car makes sense when the saving is large, the party is large, or you are travelling with young children and bags and value the door-to-door service. For a solo traveller, driving and parking at Buffalo, or taking public transport, will be cheaper. Our page on chauffeurs versus rideshare explains the fare structure in more detail.
Toronto to Buffalo airport: every option compared
| Choice | Cost | Time | For whom |
|---|---|---|---|
| Amtrak Maple Leaf | mid-range fare per person | daily train from Toronto Union Station with stops at Niagara Falls and Buffalo; the full route to New York takes 12 h 30 min | Travellers who are not in a hurry and are going to Buffalo itself |
| Coach | low fare per person | scheduled service; confirm the operator and border stop | Budget travellers |
| Drive yourself and park | fuel, parking, bridge toll on the return | 2 h–3 h | Travellers who will leave the car at BUF |
| Executive Sedan, private | $745–$970 per vehicle for up to 3 passengers | 2 h 30 min–3 h 30 min | Executives and couples |
| Luxury SUV, private | $935–$1,235 per vehicle for up to 6 passengers | 2 h 30 min–3 h 30 min | Families with luggage |
| Executive Sprinter, private | $1,320–$1,730 per vehicle for 12 to 14 passengers | 2 h 30 min–3 h 30 min | Tour groups and teams |
The honest comparison depends on the party. A family of five flying to Orlando with five large bags is well matched with the SUV, because everyone and everything goes in one vehicle and nobody drives home tired. A solo traveller on a tight budget will do better on the train or the coach. The Amtrak page lists Toronto Union Station, Niagara Falls ON and Niagara Falls NY, and two Buffalo stations, but it does not describe customs on board, so check the operator's guidance. See Amtrak's Maple Leaf page.
Pickup in Toronto: Pearson, Union Station, hotels and home
The pickup can be a home in Mississauga, a downtown condo or a hotel. At Toronto Pearson, a driver can meet you after arrival for a connection to BUF, for example if you land from overseas and then fly to the U.S. from Buffalo. At Union Station, the chauffeur meets you at the curb. For jet passengers, the Pearson FBO page covers private arrivals.

If you are leaving from a downtown hotel, such as the Fairmont Royal York, tell the booker the entrance. The hotel has no affiliation with LimousineCanada.ca. The Toronto airport limo page and the Toronto limo page explain the Toronto-side service.
Returning from Buffalo
Many Canadians park at BUF, fly, and drive back. If you prefer a chauffeur for the return, you can book the pickup in Buffalo and the drop-off at home. Tell us your flight number and arrival time when you book. The return crosses into Canada, so each passenger needs a valid document, and the Canada Border Services Agency publishes guidance for returning travellers. The Peace Bridge toll applies to Canada-bound traffic.
For flight arrivals, the free wait follows our standard terms. International arrivals include 60 minutes and domestic arrivals 30.
Winter and the Niagara corridor
The QEW through Niagara is exposed to lake-effect weather in winter, and Buffalo is known for heavy snow. Allow extra time between November and March. If you have an early flight, travel the night before, or choose a departure time that gives a margin on both sides of the border. For the Niagara region, see our Toronto Airport to Niagara Falls page.

Combining the trip with Niagara
Because the route passes Niagara, some travellers add a stop. The Niagara Falls day trip guide and the Niagara-on-the-Lake wineries guide cover the options. A short viewing stop at the Falls on the way to the airport adds time but not much to the fare, since the highway goes past it.
Do not combine a stop with a tight flight. Border queues are the one part of the journey nobody controls, and a sightseeing stop narrows your margin. If you want the stop, leave early.
Families, March break and early-morning departures
The heaviest demand for this route comes at school breaks, when families look at airfare for four or five and decide that Buffalo is worth the extra leg. March break family travel is the clearest example. If you are travelling then, book the transfer as soon as you book the flights, because the first departures of the morning are the busiest.
An early flight changes the plan. A 7 a.m. departure from BUF means being at the terminal around 5 a.m., which means leaving Toronto in the middle of the night. Many families solve this by driving to Fort Erie or Niagara the afternoon before and sleeping nearby, then taking a short morning transfer. Our Niagara Falls to BUF fare is $255–$305 in a sedan, which is a fraction of the Toronto price. Whether the hotel night pays for itself depends on the party size and the time of the flight.
Teams, tour groups and corporate travel through BUF
Groups sometimes use the airport when a lower fare for the whole party justifies the extra leg. An Executive Sprinter seats twelve to fourteen with twelve or more bags, and at $1,320–$1,730 before tax for the run from Pearson or downtown, the per-person cost is modest. Say what the group is carrying, because instruments and equipment cases take up more room than suitcases do.
For corporate travellers, the question is time rather than money. Executives who need to be in the United States for a morning meeting may prefer a late-evening transfer to a hotel near the airport. See our cross-border limo page for the general guidance, and our corporate car service page for accounts and receipts.
Luggage, car seats and the right vehicle
Match the vehicle to the bags. A sedan takes three passengers, two large bags and two carry-ons; an SUV takes six passengers and five or six large bags; a Sprinter takes twelve to fourteen passengers and twelve or more bags. Airlines flying from Buffalo apply their own baggage rules, so check them before packing.
Ask for child seats in the booking and they are supplied at no charge. Give the child's age and weight.
Included services and cancellation
A chauffeur, a clean vehicle and flight tracking where an airport is involved are included. The online booker shows the all-in price for your pickup address, with tolls added at cost where they apply and a tip left to your judgement.
Measure the notice from the scheduled pickup time: more than 72 hours is free to cancel, 72 hours or less costs 10%, 48 hours or less costs 50%, and 24 hours or less or a no-show costs 100%.
