Victoria Cruise Port Limo & Ogden Point Car Service

Ogden Point is mostly a port of call, so most guests want a private driver for a few hours, not a transfer. Book Butchart Gardens, the Inner Harbour or a run to the airport by the hour or by the kilometre.

Victoria cruise port limo service at Ogden Point

Ogden Point is the working end of Victoria's waterfront, a long breakwater and a pair of deep-water piers at the foot of Dallas Road. It is where the ships tie up for Victoria's cruise calls, and it is run by the Greater Victoria Harbour Authority (GVHA), whose own pages call the Breakwater District home to the Victoria Cruise Ship Terminal.

Unlike Vancouver, Victoria is not mainly a boarding port. The GVHA describes it as an important port of call on the Alaska cruise experience, usually the final destination on an itinerary before ships return to Seattle or Vancouver. Its passenger information page says the terminal welcomed 311 cruise ship calls in 2025, and its cruise page notes the first ship of 2026 arrived on April 10, with 335 calls anticipated.

That shapes how you use a car. A guest is off the ship for a day, with a firm all-aboard time, and the question is how to see the most of the city in that window. A private vehicle by the hour answers it; a transfer to the airport answers the rarer case of leaving a cruise here.

Can a private car pick up at the Ogden Point cruise terminal?

Glass-walled airport terminal walkway at dusk
Glass-walled airport terminal walkway at dusk

Yes, but terminal access is controlled. The GVHA says all motorized vehicles collecting passengers at the terminal, including limousines, taxis and shuttles, need a decal. That makes a private pickup a pre-arranged job: give your ship, pier and time when you book, and the meeting point is confirmed in advance.

The rule comes from the GVHA's cruise operations page, which lists limousines, rental cars, shuttles, vans, taxis, ride-hailing vehicles and shore-excursion operators as requiring a terminal decal to pick up at the pier. Questions about decals go to the terminal operator, SSA Marine, whose contact details are on the same page. The practical result for you is the same on every call: do not wander out to the Dallas Road kerb hoping to hail a car.

Most guests prefer a meeting point close to the gangway, and a chauffeur's job is to keep the exchange short: bags in, doors closed, away from the pier before the next vehicle arrives.

The GVHA also notes that friendly volunteers greet guests at the terminal, handing out maps and brochures, and that wheelchairs are available. Each pier has relief areas for service animals. Say at booking if anyone in the party has reduced mobility, so the vehicle and the pickup point suit them.

Private shore excursion tours by the hour from Ogden Point

An hourly booking is the main product here. The clock starts when the chauffeur meets you and stops when you are back at the pier. The route is yours: stop where the group wants to stop, skip what bores you, and take a lunch break without worrying about a coach departure.

Butchart Gardens, the Inner Harbour and Craigdarroch Castle: sample days

Distances below are road distances from the pier on the day-trip map, with realistic drive times. The totals multiply the hourly rates by the suggested duration.

Hatley Castle and Butchart GardensHatley 16 km, 28–35 min; Butchart 23 km from the pier5–6 hr$675–$990$865–$1,260

Butchart Gardens is the long run, on the Saanich Peninsula, and the usual half-day. The drive out is 35 to 45 minutes. A sensible visit is ninety minutes to two hours in the gardens, which fits four to five hours with the road time. Cruise guests who try to add the Inner Harbour afterwards are usually the ones who feel rushed.

The Inner Harbour is the postcard core of Victoria: the legislature, the Empress hotel and the causeway. It is only 2.6 km from the pier, so a driver adds little here beyond a pleasant ride and an easy drop at the right end of the harbour.

Craigdarroch Castle is a short climb east of downtown, and pairs naturally with the Inner Harbour and a lunch stop. If your group includes older travellers or anyone with a knee, a driver who can park close to the entrance is the quiet advantage of a private tour.

Add up the hours honestly. A half-day on a ship's excursion typically runs to the ship's clock; a private booking runs to yours, and the cost per head falls with a full vehicle. A Luxury SUV with five guests on a four-hour Butchart tour is $690–$840 for the vehicle, or about $138–$168 each.

Ogden Point to Victoria airport (YYJ): fares, distance and time

If you are leaving the ship in Victoria, or catching a flight after a port day, the airport run is 29 km. The airport is in Sidney, on the Saanich Peninsula, and its address is 201-1640 Electra Blvd, Sidney. Allow 35 to 45 minutes and more at rush hour.

Ogden Point to downtown hotels2–4 km, 7–15 min$145–$175$180–$220$295–$355

The reverse trip, from the airport to Ogden Point, costs the same. Read the Victoria airport limo page for pickup details at YYJ, or see airport limo service across Canada and our wider limo service overview.

An international arrival comes with an hour of waiting included and a domestic one with half an hour. Greeting you in the arrivals hall with a name board is optional at $100–$150, and a child seat costs nothing if you ask when booking.

How do the other ways of getting around Ogden Point compare?

The cheaper options are real, and several are good enough that you should know them before you book.

The GVHA's passenger page lists pedicabs, rickshaws, shuttles and taxis among the operators based at the terminal, and tour buses to Butchart Gardens. For a couple who only want to see the harbour, walking or a shuttle is the sensible answer and a limo is an indulgence. The car comes into its own when the group is larger than a taxi, when someone cannot manage a 2.4 km walk, or when you want Butchart Gardens and the city in one day without a bus schedule. For a family of five, the private SUV usually compares well with five bus-tour tickets, and you choose the stops.

If you are arriving at YYJ before the cruise, the airport's own ground transportation page lists BC Transit routes 70, 72, 87 and 88, curbside taxis, and the Short Term Lot curb where taxis and ride-hail cars pick up. It also warns that oversize luggage is hard to fit on buses, which matters for cruise cases.

Planning around the ship's all-aboard time

The one hard constraint on a port day is the all-aboard time printed on your ship's daily bulletin. It is earlier than the sailing time, and a ship can sail without a late passenger. Plan to be back at the pier at least an hour before it.

Flower beds at Butchart Gardens near Victoria
Flower beds at Butchart Gardens near Victoria

Work backward. If all-aboard is at 4:30 p.m., a Butchart Gardens tour should end its visit by 2:30 and start the drive back by 2:45, which lands you at the pier shortly after 3:30. Tell the chauffeur your all-aboard time at the start, and the whole itinerary is built around it.

Traffic on Dallas Road and in James Bay can slow noticeably when several ships are in port at the same time. The GVHA has expected 335 calls in 2026, so that is a normal condition rather than an exception, and an hour of margin protects you.

A four-hour Butchart Gardens day, hour by hour

A worked example makes the timing concrete. Suppose your ship is alongside from early morning and all-aboard is mid-afternoon. A four-hour Executive Sedan or Luxury SUV booking might run like this:

  1. 0:00 The chauffeur meets you at the agreed point at the pier.
  2. 0:10 A short loop past the Inner Harbour, with a photo stop, if the group wants one.
  3. 0:25 The road north to the Saanich Peninsula, 23 km and 35 to 45 minutes in ordinary traffic.
  4. 1:10 Arrival at the gardens, with about ninety minutes inside.
  5. 2:40 Departure, with a drink or a snack if the group wants one.
  6. 3:30 Back at Ogden Point, with time in hand for shops and the gangway.

The sample is a template, not a schedule. Add an hour if anyone walks slowly or wants a long lunch, and book five hours instead of four. The booker lets you choose the duration, and a driver who is waiting for you is always cheaper than a missed ship.

Accessibility, families and child seats at the cruise terminal

The GVHA lists wheelchairs at the terminal and relief areas for service animals at each pier. Both are worth knowing before you plan a day. Tell the booker if a wheelchair or walker travels with you, because the vehicle choice changes: a Luxury SUV usually takes a folded manual wheelchair more easily than a sedan, and a Sprinter handles a larger group with mixed mobility.

For families, there is no charge for a child seat. A tour with children is best kept to two or three stops: a harbour walk, a garden, and a snack. Long museum visits tire younger passengers quickly, and a private car lets you leave when the group is ready rather than when a bus is.

Choosing the right vehicle for a Victoria port day

  • Executive Sedan: one to three guests. The sensible choice for a couple.
  • Luxury SUV: up to six guests; a comfortable family tour car.
  • Executive Sprinter: 12 to 14 guests. A good value for a group of friends who share the hourly rate.
  • Stretch limousine: eight to ten guests, from $225–$300 an hour with a three-hour minimum; a celebration car for an anniversary or wedding party that has a port day.
  • Mini-coach: 20 to 30 guests, $300–$420 an hour with a four-hour minimum, for tour groups and club outings.

Luggage matters only if you are leaving the ship: an Executive Sedan takes two large bags and two carry-ons, and a Luxury SUV five or six large bags. See the fleet page and the rates page for details.

Pairing a Victoria stop with Vancouver or the airport

Many guests who visit Victoria from a Vancouver sailing are also thinking about the days before and after the cruise. The Vancouver Canada Place guide covers the embarkation side, and the cruise port hub lists the other Canadian ports. If you plan to stay in Victoria for a night, the same chauffeur can meet you at the pier, take you to a hotel, and return you to the airport later in a separate booking.

Pre-trip and post-trip transfers are simple one-way runs with fares as shown above, and a night in Victoria between sailings is easy to arrange as two separate bookings.

Frequently asked questions

How much is a limo from Ogden Point to Victoria airport?

An Executive Sedan is typically $145–$175, a Luxury SUV $180–$220 and an Executive Sprinter $295–$355, before tax. The drive is 29 km and takes 35 to 45 minutes. The booker shows an exact fare for your address.

Can I hire a car and driver by the hour at the Victoria cruise port?

Yes. Hourly rates are $135–$165 for an Executive Sedan and $175–$210 for a Luxury SUV, each with a two-hour minimum. Sprinters and stretch limousines carry a three-hour minimum, mini-coaches four. Admission to attractions is not included.

How long does Butchart Gardens take from the cruise ship?

The gardens are about 23 km from Ogden Point, a 35 to 45 minute drive each way. With ninety minutes to two hours on site, plan four to five hours door to door, and be back at the ship at least an hour before all-aboard.

Is it far to walk from Ogden Point to downtown Victoria?

The GVHA puts the Inner Harbour at about 2.4 km from the pier. At an easy pace the walk through James Bay takes about half an hour. A private car is worthwhile for mobility, weather or a tight schedule.

Do taxis, Uber and limousines need permission at Ogden Point?

The GVHA says all motorized vehicles collecting passengers at the terminal, including limousines, taxis and ride-hailing vehicles, require a terminal decal. Give your ship and pier when you book so the pickup point is confirmed in advance.

Is Victoria a port of call or a boarding port?

For most guests it is a port of call. The GVHA describes it as usually the last stop on an Alaska itinerary before returning to Seattle or Vancouver. Your cruise line confirms whether your sailing boards or disembarks here.

Can you take us from the ship to the Swartz Bay ferry terminal?

Yes. Swartz Bay is about 35 km from Ogden Point, around 40 to 50 minutes. An Executive Sedan is $165–$195, a Luxury SUV $205–$250 and an Executive Sprinter $295–$355. Check the ferry sailing time before you book the car.

Can I bring a child seat?

Yes, at no charge. Mention each child's age and weight when you book so the correct seat is fitted before the car reaches the pier.
