Whitehorse airport limo service for the Yukon capital
A Whitehorse airport limo is a small luxury in a place where distances are large and the weather decides a great deal. Erik Nielsen Whitehorse International Airport is the main gateway to the Yukon, and the Yukon's capital is only a short drive from the terminal. What changes the picture is what lies beyond: hot springs, mountain passes, lakes and highways that run for hundreds of kilometres.
LimousineCanada.ca takes bookings online. You enter your flight number, the destination and the number of passengers, and the booker returns an all-in fare in Canadian dollars. A chauffeur tracks the flight and meets you, so you do not need to hunt for a taxi after a long journey north.
This page explains the airport, the alternatives to a limo, the fares to the places travellers go, and how we plan for aurora season, long highway runs and winter conditions.
How does a Whitehorse airport limo work at YXY?

Book online with your flight number and destination. A chauffeur is assigned and tracks the aircraft, so delays move the pickup instead of costing you extra. You get free waiting time after landing, are met at the terminal and are driven to your address at the fare quoted when you booked.
The booking is tied to the flight, not the clock. If your connection south is late and you arrive an hour behind schedule, the chauffeur shifts with you. A message before landing explains where the vehicle will be.
Domestic arrivals receive 30 minutes of free wait, and international arrivals receive 60. A name-board greeting inside the arrivals area is $100 to $150 as an add-on. Child seats cost nothing when requested at booking. The quoted fare is before tax, and tipping is at your discretion.
The airport, the town and how close they are
Erik Nielsen Whitehorse International Airport is owned and operated by the Government of Yukon, and Air North, which is based in Whitehorse, is the home carrier. On road maps, the airport is 6.2 km from the city, an eight-minute drive, which is why in-town transfers sit at the minimum charge.
The Yukon government publishes a terminal map showing taxi queuing, a shuttle bus stop and a cell-phone waiting lot. Rental car counters are in the terminal. Day parking is in front of the building, and the short-term and long-term areas are separate.
We could not open the Yukon government's airport pages when we checked this guide, so we have not linked to them. For current terminal details, search the Government of Yukon website for the airport's page.

Whitehorse airport to town: every option compared
For the short run into Whitehorse, you have several perfectly good choices. Choose the one that fits your baggage and your timing.

| Option | Typical cost | Time | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| City transit | Lowest, standard fare | Longest; service from the airport is limited | Solo travellers who know the timetable |
| Taxi from the terminal | Roughly $23–$28 by third-party estimate | About 8 minutes | Spontaneous arrivals with little luggage |
| Shuttle bus | Per-person fare, varies | Short | Travellers with a shuttle booked |
| Rental car | Daily rate plus fuel | Your own pace | Self-drive trips on the Alaska Highway |
| Private car (LimousineCanada.ca) | $145–$175 sedan minimum | About 8 minutes | Fixed fare, luggage, groups, late flights |
Sources disagree on whether any city bus enters the airport grounds, so check the transit schedule on the City of Whitehorse website before relying on it. A taxi is the best-value choice for a one-person, one-bag arrival. The limo is the better choice when you have gear, a group, a connecting schedule or a booked itinerary that depends on you being on time.
Taxis, shuttles and rental cars at the terminal
Taxis queue outside the terminal. Third-party sources list several Whitehorse taxi companies and two airport shuttle operators, but phone numbers and fares change, so we recommend asking for a quote before you get in. Commercial drivers who serve the airport must hold a permit from the Yukon government, which designates the pick-up and drop-off areas.
Most major rental agencies have counters inside the building. If you rent for the Alaska Highway, check the cross-border rules in your agreement before heading towards Skagway.
If you plan to use a private car, arrange it before you fly. Our system books the car to your flight number, and the chauffeur knows where the designated commercial pick-up area is. Please read the limo versus rideshare guide for a fair account of when a taxi or app is enough.
Whitehorse airport limo fares by destination
All figures are in Canadian dollars before tax. Short runs sit at the minimum transfer. A sedan would have to travel about 31 km before the per-kilometre rate overtakes the $145 minimum.

| Destination | Distance and time | Sedan | Luxury SUV | Sprinter |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Downtown Whitehorse | 6.2 km / 8 min | $145–$175 | $180–$220 | $295–$355 |
| Yukon Wildlife Preserve | 28.6 km / 24 min | $145–$175 | $180–$220 | $295–$355 |
| Takhini Hot Springs | 30.2 km / 27 min | $145–$175 | $180–$220 | $295–$355 |
| Carcross | 71.6 km / 57 min | $335–$395 | $420–$505 | $590–$710 |
| Haines Junction | 154.9 km / 2 hr | $720–$860 | $905–$1,090 | $1,280–$1,535 |
| Skagway, Alaska | 174.8 km / 2 hr 20 min plus border | $815–$970 | $1,025–$1,230 | $1,440–$1,730 |
| Kluane Lake | 260.1 km / 3 hr 20 min | $1,210–$1,445 | $1,520–$1,835 | $2,145–$2,575 |
Distances are road figures from consistent mapping sources. Winter conditions, wildlife and road work can lengthen the drive, and the booker's quote reflects the exact address. See the limo rates page for hourly vehicles and every class.
Northern lights by private car
Travel Yukon lists August to April as the best season for the aurora, with the best viewing between 10 p.m. and 3 a.m. Clear skies, dark locations and avoiding a full moon all help. The lights are visible from Whitehorse itself, but Travel Yukon notes that darker sites are better.
A chauffeured evening has practical advantages. You do not need to drive after midnight in the cold, the vehicle is already warm when you return from the viewing site, and you can watch the sky instead of the road. An hourly booking suits this well. A Luxury SUV is $175 to $210 per hour with a two-hour minimum, so a four-hour evening is roughly $700 to $840 before tax. A sedan is $135 to $165 per hour, or about $540 to $660 for the same four hours.
Check the forecast on the Travel Yukon northern lights page and tell us your preferred window. We cannot guarantee that the sky will cooperate, only that the car will be ready.
Takhini Hot Springs and the Yukon Wildlife Preserve
Two short outings account for many bookings. The Yukon Wildlife Preserve is 28.6 km and about 24 minutes from the terminal, and Takhini Hot Springs is 30.2 km and about 27 minutes. Both are priced at the sedan minimum, so the real choice is about how long the vehicle waits.

For a half-day, we recommend an hourly booking with the chauffeur staying with you. That avoids two one-way charges and keeps the vehicle warm for the return. Hourly pricing is covered on the hourly chauffeur page.
Dress for the destination. Hot springs and outdoor viewing are cold on the way in and out, so pack a dry change of clothes and a warm hat for the car.
Carcross, Haines Junction and Kluane Lake
Highway runs from Whitehorse are long and scenic. Carcross is 71.6 km and about 57 minutes from the airport. Haines Junction is 154.9 km and about two hours. Kluane Lake is 260.1 km and about three hours and twenty minutes.
For these, an hourly or day booking is often more practical than a single transfer, especially if you stop for photographs. Fuel, food and cell coverage thin out on the long stretches, so build the schedule around daylight. In summer there is plenty. In winter, days are short, and we plan the schedule more conservatively.

Whitehorse to Skagway: border documents and timing
Skagway is 174.8 km and about two hours and twenty minutes from the Whitehorse airport on the road map, not counting the border. Skagway is in Alaska, so every passenger needs valid travel documents for entry to the United States and for re-entry to Canada. Rules are set by the Canada Border Services Agency and U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
Border hours and queues change by season, so check them before you commit to a ferry or train connection in Skagway. Waiting at the border is charged as waiting time, and the chauffeur will tell you before it begins. Our cross-border limo page lists the documents we ask for.
Because cruise and ferry connections are timed, we suggest an early start and a margin of at least an hour for border processing.
Dawson City: drive or fly
Dawson City is about 533 km from the airport, a drive of roughly 6 hours and 47 minutes by road. A sedan transfer would cost roughly $2,480 to $2,960 before tax, which is a serious sum for a single leg. Air North, based in Whitehorse, flies to Dawson City, and a flight is the sensible choice for most travellers.
We mention the option because some groups prefer a private vehicle with luggage, equipment or a film crew. If that describes you, a day-rate booking with an overnight is more realistic than a one-way transfer. Contact us through the booking form with the number of people and the dates, and we will provide a custom quote.
Winter arrivals in the far north
Winter in Whitehorse is long and cold. Flights can arrive late, and ice fog or snow can slow the highway. Because your pickup follows your flight, a delay in the air does not affect the booking.
For the road, ask your chauffeur to confirm the plan on the day, especially if you are heading over a pass. We prefer to leave late rather than risk an unsafe run. If conditions force a change, we tell you early and offer an alternative time.
The airport's cell-phone lot and terminal map suggest where chauffeurs wait. Passengers should keep a phone charged, since cold shortens battery life. Tell us at booking if you are carrying skis, snowshoes or camera gear so we can choose a vehicle with room.
Choosing a vehicle and packing for the north
The Executive Sedan is sized for three passengers, two large bags and two carry-ons. A Luxury SUV takes six passengers with five or six large bags, which suits families and camera equipment. An Executive Sprinter takes twelve to fourteen passengers with twelve or more bags, which suits groups and tour parties.
A stretch limousine seats eight to ten at $225 to $300 per hour with a three-hour minimum, and a mini-coach seats twenty to thirty at $300 to $420 per hour with a four-hour minimum. For events and larger tours, browse the Sprinter van rental page.
Bulky winter clothing takes space. If in doubt, choose the larger vehicle. The fleet page shows the line-up.
Flight tracking, free wait and the arrivals meeting at YXY
Flight tracking is included. Early arrival, delay or gate change updates the pickup. The 30-minute domestic and 60-minute international free waits start at landing.
If you would like a person with a name board waiting in the arrivals area, add the meet-and-greet at booking. It is helpful for first-time visitors, elderly passengers and groups arriving together.
Please keep your booking confirmation handy. If you arrive on a charter or a smaller regional aircraft, give us the airline and flight number so we can track it correctly.
Booking in advance and cancellation
Book as soon as your flight is confirmed, especially for aurora season and summer weekends. Cancellation is measured from the scheduled pickup time: more than 72 hours' notice carries no charge, 72 hours or less is 10%, 48 hours or less is 50%, and 24 hours or less or a no-show is 100%.

Frequently asked questions
How much is a limo from Whitehorse airport to downtown?
The sedan fare is the $145 to $175 minimum before tax, because the run is only 6.2 km and eight minutes. Step up to a Luxury SUV at $180 to $220 or a Sprinter at $295 to $355. The booker confirms the exact fare for your address.
What is the cheapest way to get from Whitehorse airport to town?
A taxi is the lowest-cost private option, and third-party estimates put the fare in the low to mid $20s. Public transit is cheaper still, but service from the airport is limited. A limo suits luggage, groups and tight schedules.
Is an airport limo worth it in Whitehorse?
It is worth it for fixed pricing, a known vehicle size and a driver tracking your flight. For a solo traveller with a carry-on, a taxi is cheaper. The limo earns its place on late arrivals, in winter and with equipment.
Can you take me to see the northern lights?
Yes, by the hour. Travel Yukon lists August to April as the viewing season, with the best chances between 10 p.m. and 3 a.m. A Luxury SUV is $175 to $210 per hour with a two-hour minimum. We cannot promise clear skies.
How far is Skagway from Whitehorse airport?
The road distance is 174.8 km, about two hours and twenty minutes before the border. Every passenger needs valid documents for the United States. A sedan is about $815 to $970 plus any border waiting time.
Do you wait if my flight is late?
Yes. The pickup follows your flight. You receive 30 minutes of free wait on a domestic arrival and 60 minutes on an international one, and we tell you before any extra waiting is charged.
Can you fit a child seat for the ride from the terminal?
Yes, at no cost. Put each child's age and weight into the booking and the correct seat is installed before you land in the north.
Can I book a car to Dawson City?
Yes, but it is about 533 km and roughly seven hours by road, so a sedan transfer runs well into the thousands of dollars. Many travellers fly with Air North instead. For a group, ask for a custom day-rate quote.
Is gratuity included?
No. Gratuity is at your discretion, and taxes are added to the fare.
