Victoria airport limo service, built around the Saanich Peninsula

A Victoria airport limo from LimousineCanada.ca solves a simple problem. Victoria International Airport (YYJ) sits at the north end of the Saanich Peninsula, and almost everything a visitor wants is somewhere else: the Inner Harbour and its hotels to the south, Butchart Gardens to the west, the BC Ferries terminal at Swartz Bay a few minutes north, the cruise pier at Ogden Point beyond the downtown core, and Sooke further still. The journey after landing is where a pre-booked car earns its fee.

Our Victoria airport car service is a pre-arranged black-car transfer. You book a vehicle and a pickup time on our own booker, your driver tracks the flight, and the fare you were quoted is the fare you pay. There is no queue to join, no surge, and no negotiation on the kerb. For a family with car seats, a golf group with clubs or a conference delegation, it removes most of the logistics.

This page covers how the airport works, what a Victoria airport chauffeur costs to the usual destinations, where your driver will meet you, and the honest alternatives. Where the cheaper option is the better choice for your trip, we say so.

How far is Victoria International Airport from downtown Victoria?

Victoria International Airport is roughly 25 km north of downtown Victoria, about a 30-minute drive on Highway 17 (the Patricia Bay Highway), which becomes Blanshard Street as it enters the city. The Swartz Bay ferry terminal is only about 10 minutes beyond the airport.

The airport is not in the city of Victoria at all. The airport authority lists its offices in Sidney, and the terminal itself is in North Saanich. Published distances to downtown vary a little between sources, from the mid-twenties to about 27 km when measured to the Fairmont Empress, so treat 25 to 27 km as the working figure. Highway 17 is the spine of the whole peninsula, and everything on this page is a variation on that one road.

Traffic matters most where the highway meets the city. Outside rush hour the run to the Inner Harbour is smooth; on a weekday afternoon the last few kilometres can add 10 to 20 minutes.

Victoria airport car service fares from YYJ

Every transfer below is priced from the same rate card: distance multiplied by a per-kilometre rate, never less than the vehicle's minimum. All fares are quoted in Canadian dollars before tax; gratuity is up to you. Distances are approximate road distances from the terminal; the online booker uses the exact address you enter and shows the all-in fare before you commit.

Sooke and the West Shore60 km, 55-65 min$280-$330$355-$420$495-$595

The reason so many rows show the same range is the minimum transfer. Anything under roughly 30 km in a sedan works out below $145 on distance alone, so the minimum applies. That is useful to know: the run to the Inner Harbour costs the same as a short hop to Sidney, so there is no benefit to ordering a closer hotel.

Larger groups should look at the Sprinter: at $295 to $355 for a downtown run it is cheaper per head than two SUVs once you pass eight travellers. See our Luxury SUV and Sprinter fleet for seating and luggage detail.

Where your chauffeur meets you at YYJ

The terminal is a single building with arrivals on the ground floor, and the walk from the gate to the baggage area is short. The airport's own ground transportation page sets out where each kind of pickup happens: taxis queue at the kerb, and pre-booked taxi and rideshare pickups are along the Short Term Lot kerb, directly across from the arrivals exit doors.

For a private transfer, your booking confirmation states the exact meeting point for your flight. Two options are available:

  • Kerbside pickup. Your driver messages you when you clear baggage and meets you at the agreed point outside. There is no charge for this.
  • Name-board meet and greet. The driver waits inside the arrivals hall holding a name board, helps with bags and walks you to the car. This is an add-on at $100 to $150, and it is worth it for first-time visitors, anyone travelling with children, and anyone who would rather not hunt for a car in the rain.

The airport's published ground transportation page does not spell out special rules for pre-arranged limousines, so we do not guess at them here. If the airport changes how it handles private vehicles, your booking confirmation will carry the current instructions. Either way, you will have a mobile number for your driver before you land.

Flight tracking, free waiting time and late arrivals

Your driver is assigned against your flight number, not against a clock. If your plane lands early or late, the pickup moves with it, at no extra charge. Included waiting time runs from the moment of landing: 60 minutes for international arrivals, which allows for customs and a slow baggage belt, and 30 minutes for domestic arrivals.

Travellers with luggage walking through an arrivals hall
Travellers with luggage walking through an arrivals hall

That covers nearly every normal arrival. If you are delayed beyond the included wait, for example by a missed bag, tell your driver by message and the car will stay. Extended waiting beyond the free period is billed at the vehicle's hourly rate, and the booker explains how before you confirm.

Our cancellation terms are simple and measured from the scheduled pickup time: more than 72 hours' notice is free; 72 hours or less is 10%; 48 hours or less is 50%; 24 hours or less, or a no-show, is 100%. If your flight is cancelled by the airline, contact us as early as you can and we will work with you on the rebooking.

Victoria airport limo to the Swartz Bay ferry terminal

The BC Ferries terminal at Swartz Bay is the closest destination from YYJ, roughly 10 minutes by road along Highway 17. It is where many visitors begin a Gulf Islands trip, and it is also the terminal for the crossing to Tsawwassen on the mainland.

A private car makes sense here when you are connecting on a tight schedule or carrying a lot of luggage. Walk-on foot passengers have to move bags from kerb to terminal to the vessel, and a driver who knows the drop-off point will get you as close to the terminal doors as vehicles may go. If you are driving onto the ferry yourself, you do not need us for this leg.

Because the terminal is so close to the airport, the minimum transfer applies: $145 to $175 in the sedan. BC Transit also links the airport and the terminal and is far cheaper, but with large bags and a sailing to catch it is slow.

A Butchart Gardens transfer from the airport

The Butchart Gardens are in Brentwood Bay, on the west side of the Saanich Peninsula and well placed between the airport and the city. The Gardens themselves describe the trip from downtown Victoria as around 22 km, so from the airport it is much shorter, about 15 km and 20 minutes by road.

Land at YYJ, have your driver take you straight to the Gardens, visit, and continue to your hotel with the bags in the car throughout. We can hold the vehicle for your visit on an hourly basis, usually better value than two separate transfers. The Gardens publish seasonal opening times on their official site, and the hours change through the year.

Ogden Point and Victoria cruise passengers

Ogden Point is the deep-water cruise pier, a little under 2.5 km from the Inner Harbour on the city's south-west edge. The Greater Victoria Harbour Authority operates the terminal and describes it as the city's cruise port of call. The authority has also been introducing a "Breakwater District" name for the area, so you may see both names on signs and in cruise documents.

From YYJ it is about 30 km and 35 to 40 minutes, with the same minimum fare as a downtown run. Passengers boarding a ship usually want a late-morning pickup, and a driver can also be booked for the reverse journey when disembarking. Our dedicated page for the pier covers the terminal in detail: Victoria cruise port car service at Ogden Point. The harbour authority publishes cruise information at gvha.ca.

Sooke, the West Shore and longer runs

Beyond the city, Highway 14 runs west along the coast to Sooke. Tourism sources put Sooke about 38 to 45 km from Victoria, and from YYJ the full journey is around 60 km, depending on the route taken. Allow an hour.

This is the one destination from the airport where distance, not the minimum, drives the price: expect $280 to $330 in the sedan, $355 to $420 in the SUV and $495 to $595 in the Sprinter. If you plan to see several places in one day, an hourly booking makes more sense than point-to-point pricing. A stretch limousine for a wine-and-coast day is $225 to $300 per hour with a three-hour minimum. Pass the itinerary to the booker and you will see both options priced side by side.

What is the cheapest way to get from Victoria airport to downtown?

The cheapest way from YYJ to downtown Victoria is BC Transit, at $6 for a single trip to most of Greater Victoria. It takes about an hour with a transfer. Taxis and rideshare are quicker, and a pre-booked car adds a fixed fare, flight tracking and help with luggage.

The airport lists four BC Transit routes serving the terminal: 70, 72, 87 and 88. Up to 28 daily departures link the airport with the McTavish Transit Exchange, where travellers connect onward to the Saanich Peninsula, Swartz Bay and downtown. The airport also warns that oversize luggage is hard to accommodate on buses, which matters if you are arriving with a full set of suitcases.

How you travelTypical cost (CAD)Time to Inner HarbourSuits
BC Transit bus$6 per personabout 60-75 min with a connectionSolo travellers with light bags and flexible time

Private car, Executive Sedan$145-$175about 30-35 minFixed price, flight tracking, help with bags
Private car, Luxury SUV$180-$220about 30-35 minUp to six with heavy luggage

If you are a solo traveller with a carry-on and no deadline, the bus is the right answer and we will not pretend otherwise. The case for a pre-booked car is strongest for groups of three or more, anyone arriving late at night, and anyone with a first-day schedule that cannot absorb a transfer.

Is an airport limo worth it at Victoria?

Whether a Victoria airport limo is worth the money depends on three things: how many of you there are, how much luggage you have, and what happens in the first hour after landing.

The sedan at $145 to $175 works out at roughly $36 to $58 per head for a party of three to four. A Luxury SUV at $180 to $220 carries six people and six large bags. For business travellers, the main value is certainty: a named driver, a time, a price, and a tracked flight.

A limousine is less compelling for a single traveller with one bag and a free afternoon. In that case, use the bus or an app. We would rather you arrived happy having chosen well than book a car you did not need.

Frequently asked questions

How much is a limo from Victoria airport to downtown?

An Executive Sedan from YYJ to downtown Victoria is $145 to $175 before tax, a Luxury SUV is $180 to $220 and an Executive Sprinter is $295 to $355. The distance is about 25 to 27 km and the drive takes roughly 30 to 35 minutes. The booker returns the all-in fare for your actual hotel address.

Is the Victoria airport in Victoria?

No. Victoria International Airport is about 25 km north of downtown on the Saanich Peninsula, in North Saanich near Sidney. The drive to the Inner Harbour is around 30 minutes along Highway 17. The BC Ferries terminal at Swartz Bay is only about 10 minutes beyond the airport.

Where do I meet my driver at Victoria airport?

Your booking confirmation states the exact meeting point for your flight. The airport directs pre-booked pickups to the Short Term Lot kerb across from the arrivals exit doors, and a name-board meet and greet inside the arrivals hall is available for $100 to $150. You receive your driver's mobile number before landing.

Can you take me from YYJ straight to Butchart Gardens?

Yes. The Gardens are in Brentwood Bay, about 15 km and 20 minutes from the airport. You can book a point-to-point transfer or hold the car on an hourly basis while you visit, with your luggage staying in the vehicle. Check the Gardens' official site for the day's opening hours before you plan the timing.

How far is Swartz Bay from Victoria airport?

Swartz Bay ferry terminal is about 7 km from the airport, roughly 10 minutes along Highway 17. The minimum transfer fare applies, so the sedan is $145 to $175. Foot passengers with heavy bags or a tight sailing often find a private car easier than the bus.

Does my driver track my flight?

Yes. Your driver is assigned against your flight number and the pickup moves with the actual landing time at no extra cost. The included free wait starts at landing: 60 minutes for international arrivals and 30 minutes for domestic. Tell your driver by message if you will be later than that.

What is the cheapest way from Victoria airport to the city?

BC Transit is the cheapest option, at $6 for most of Greater Victoria, but the trip takes about an hour with a transfer and large bags are hard to fit. Taxis and rideshare are faster but unfixed in price. A pre-booked car is the best value for groups of three or more.

What is your cancellation policy for airport transfers?

Plans change: give us more than 72 hours of notice before pickup and the booking is released at no cost. At 72 hours or less the charge is 10%, at 48 hours or less it is 50%, and at 24 hours or less, or a no-show, it is 100%. All times are measured from the scheduled pickup time.

Can I book a car seat for my child?

Yes, a child seat is free on request. Put the child's age and weight in the booking notes and the right seat will be fitted before your driver arrives.
