A Montreal Central Station limo is a chauffeured car booked in advance, timed to your train and waiting at Gare Centrale on arrival. The station is tucked beneath the Queen Elizabeth Hotel in the middle of downtown, which makes it convenient for rail but tricky for cars: one-way streets, construction detours and a short list of legal stopping places. This guide covers where a Gare Centrale car service meets you, what the usual runs cost, and when the metro, the 747 bus or a taxi is the better call.
Where does a Montreal Central Station limo pick you up?
Your chauffeur meets you at Gare Centrale near the main entrance on rue De La Gauchetière Ouest, or inside the station if you add a name-board meet. The driver messages the exact stopping point before the train arrives, because downtown kerb space and detours change from week to week.
Gare Centrale is at 895 rue De La Gauchetière Ouest, Montréal. VIA Rail's station page places it under the Queen Elizabeth Hotel, near Bonaventure and McGill metro stations. The same page describes a curbside zone at the accessible drop-off spot to the left of the main entrance, which is the spot VIA reserves for passengers who have arranged assistance.
For an ordinary pre-booked car, the driver takes whichever legal stopping place is open nearest the doors at that moment. You receive the car's make, colour and plate by message, and the driver comes in to meet you if you have booked a name-board service ($100–$150). The goal is simple: you should never wander the block looking for an unmarked sedan with luggage in your hands.
Montreal Central Station car service at a glance
Prices are before tax, in Canadian dollars, with tolls extra and gratuity at your discretion. Distances are approximate road kilometres. The booker gives the exact fare for your address.

| Trip from Gare Centrale | Distance / drive time | Executive Sedan (3 pax) | Luxury SUV (6 pax) | Executive Sprinter (12–14 pax) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Old Montréal hotels | 3 km / 8–15 min | $145–$175 | $180–$220 | $295–$355 |
| Montréal-Trudeau Airport (YUL) | 20 km / 25–45 min | $145–$175 | $180–$220 | $295–$355 |
| Laval (Carrefour Laval area) | 20 km / 25–45 min | $145–$175 | $180–$220 | $295–$355 |
| Mont-Tremblant village | 130 km / 1 h 30 min–2 h | $610–$720 | $760–$915 | $1,075–$1,290 |
| Ottawa (downtown) | 200 km / 2 h–2 h 30 min | $930–$1,110 | $1,170–$1,410 | $1,650–$1,980 |
Anything under roughly 30 km lands on the transfer minimum. The kilometre rates only decide the price on the longer legs.
Arriving by VIA Rail at Gare Centrale
VIA's page lists station hours of 05:30 to 23:00 Monday to Saturday and 07:30 to 23:00 on Sunday, and notes accessible features including a wheelchair-accessible entrance and platform, an elevator to the train, a courtesy wheelchair and a hearing loop at the ticket counter. It does not designate a single arrivals door, and we would rather say so than invent one.
Here is the routine that works:
- Put your train number and scheduled arrival in the booking notes.
- The driver follows the train's progress, so the pick-up moves with the train, not the printed timetable.
- As the train approaches, you receive the vehicle details and the meeting point.
- You step off with your bags, follow the signs up to the concourse and meet the driver.
- Bags go in the trunk, and the driver confirms your destination before leaving.
Ask for the name-board meet-and-greet if it is your first time in Montréal, if you are travelling with older relatives or if you simply do not want to search for the car. It is an optional add-on at $100–$150.

Amtrak Adirondack passengers from New York
Gare Centrale is also the Canadian terminus of Amtrak's Adirondack, which runs from New York's Moynihan Train Hall through Albany, Saratoga Springs and Plattsburgh to Montréal. Amtrak's page puts the journey at about ten hours, leaving New York in the morning and arriving in the evening. Amtrak's Adirondack page does not state whether the train is running today, so check Amtrak's service alerts before you plan around it.
Two practical points for car bookings. First, the border formalities are part of the trip, so a scheduled arrival can slip; the driver follows the train rather than the clock. Second, VIA's station page notes that Amtrak tickets are sold at the station from 07:00 to 17:00 daily and that a valid passport is required, which is a useful reminder that a passport should be in your hand rather than at the bottom of a suitcase.
Evening arrivals from New York are exactly when a pre-booked car is most valuable. Late-day taxi supply near the station can be uneven, and you will have been on a train for most of a day.
Gare Centrale to Trudeau airport: limo, 747 bus or taxi?
The airport is roughly 20 km from the station, and a Montreal Trudeau airport limo from Gare Centrale covers the trip in 25 to 45 minutes depending on the Ville-Marie, the A-20 and the time of day. It falls under the minimum transfer: $145–$175 in an Executive Sedan, $180–$220 in a Luxury SUV and $295–$355 in an Executive Sprinter.

The honest alternatives:
- 747 bus. STM runs the 747 around the clock between the airport and downtown. Its fare is listed at about $11 for a 24-hour pass, with exact change needed on board. Since January 2026 the downtown terminus of the 747-1 has been on René-Lévesque Boulevard at Berri Street, not at the station. The 747-2 serves Lionel-Groulx métro, from which the orange line runs to Bonaventure station beside Gare Centrale. Plan on a walk or a metro change with bags.
- Taxi. Montréal sets a flat fare for airport taxis going downtown. ADM's published figure, updated in May 2026, is $49.45 by day and $56.70 from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. Check it at booking time, because flat rates get revised.
- REM. The light-rail network now reaches Gare Centrale, but the airport branch is still under construction, so it does not yet serve YUL.
If you are travelling alone with one bag, the flat-rate taxi or the 747 will cost much less than a private car. The chauffeur is the right call with heavy luggage, early-morning flights, children or a time-sensitive connection.

Gare Centrale to Old Montréal and downtown hotels
Old Montréal is the shortest run on the page: about 3 km and 8 to 15 minutes. The price is the minimum transfer, $145–$175 in a sedan. At that distance, many travellers with a single bag walk or take a taxi, so be honest about your luggage before you book.

Where a car makes sense is the hotel doorstep. Many boutique hotels in Old Montréal sit on narrow, cobbled streets that are awkward to approach with a wheeled suitcase, especially in snow or rain. A chauffeur drops you at the hotel entrance and hands the bags over directly. For a day of meetings or tours, switch to an hourly booking: an Executive Sedan is $135–$165 per hour (two-hour minimum) and a Luxury SUV is $175–$210 per hour.
Our Montréal cruise terminal page covers sailings that start in the Old Port, if you are connecting a train with a cruise.
Gare Centrale to Laval and the north shore
Laval sits just across the Rivière des Prairies, about 20 km from the station. Expect 25 to 45 minutes and the minimum transfer, $145–$175 in a sedan or $180–$220 in an SUV. Public transit is workable (the metro orange line reaches Laval), though a transfer with bags is tiring if you are heading for a house, a hospital or a business park rather than a metro stop.

Families visiting relatives in Laval or further out in the Laurentians often choose the SUV. It seats six and carries five to six large bags, enough to absorb the luggage from a family arriving on a long-distance train. If you are splitting the party across two addresses, say so at booking so the route can be planned.
Gare Centrale to Mont-Tremblant
Mont-Tremblant is about 130 km north-west of downtown Montréal, and the drive takes roughly 1 hour 30 minutes to 2 hours, longer in Friday-evening ski traffic. A one-way transfer is $610–$720 in an Executive Sedan, $760–$915 in a Luxury SUV and $1,075–$1,290 in an Executive Sprinter.
Winter changes the picture. A group of skiers arriving by train with skis, boots and large bags does better in an SUV or Sprinter than in a sedan, and the luggage count should be exact at booking. The vehicle capacities are 5 to 6 large bags for the SUV and 12 or more for the Sprinter. In snow, allow extra time on Autoroute 15 and Route 117.

Gare Centrale to Ottawa and the capital region
The Montréal–Ottawa run is about 200 km, usually 2 hours to 2 hours 30 minutes depending on the Autoroute 40 and Highway 417 sections. A private car is $930–$1,110 in an Executive Sedan, $1,170–$1,410 in a Luxury SUV or $1,650–$1,980 in an Executive Sprinter.
This is a decision of comfort rather than value. VIA runs trains between Montréal and Ottawa, and for a solo traveller the train is cheaper and calmer. A car comes into its own when you are carrying a lot of luggage, travelling as a party, or heading from the station to an Ottawa address that is far from the train station. If you take the train, our Ottawa train station car service page explains the pick-up at the other end.
Montréal Central Station car vs the alternatives
| Option | Typical cost | To YUL airport | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| 747 bus | About $11 for a 24-hour pass | 45–70 min | One bag, flexible schedule |
| Airport taxi, flat rate | $49.45 day, $56.70 night | 25–45 min | Solo travellers, spontaneous trips |
| Rideshare | Varies with demand | 25–45 min | Flexible trips with a smartphone |
| Metro and walking | Standard STM fare | Not a YUL link | Trips within the island |
| Exo commuter train | Zone fare | Not a YUL link | Suburban commuting |
| Private chauffeur car | $145–$175 sedan, $180–$220 SUV | 25–45 min | Heavy bags, groups, fixed pick-up time |
If cost is the only factor, the 747 and the airport taxi win. A private car is better when the schedule is tight, the luggage is heavy or the party is large.
Winter, luggage and accessibility
Montréal winters are not a surprise to local chauffeurs, but they are to visitors. Snow-clearing operations close stretches of kerb at short notice, and the pick-up point can change between your booking and your arrival. That is one more reason to leave the exact kerb to the driver and keep your phone charged.
Capacity is straightforward: the Executive Sedan takes 3 passengers with 2 large and 2 carry-on bags, the Luxury SUV takes 6 passengers with 5 to 6 large bags, and the Executive Sprinter takes 12 to 14 passengers with 12 or more bags. Child seats are free on request at booking; give the child's age and weight in the notes.
VIA also asks passengers who need assistance to request curbside help at least 48 hours in advance. Tell us about any mobility needs so the car and meeting point can be arranged around them.
How to book a Montreal Central Station chauffeur
Use the booker at LimousineCanada.ca/book. Enter Gare Centrale as the pick-up, your drop-off address, the date and your train number, and you receive the exact all-in fare for that route. Booking here means you deal with us directly rather than an aggregator. Train and flight monitoring and free child seats (on request) come with every ride, and the name-board meet-and-greet is an optional $100–$150.
The same service runs at Toronto's Union Station, at Québec City's Gare du Palais and at the other hubs listed under train stations. If you want to see the vehicles first, browse the fleet or the full limo rates.
Frequently asked questions
Where do I meet my driver at Montreal Central Station?
Your driver meets you near the main entrance on rue De La Gauchetière Ouest, or inside the station if you booked a name-board meet. Because stopping places around the station change with construction and snow clearing, the driver messages the exact spot before the train arrives.
How much is a limo from Central Station to Montreal airport?
The trip is about 20 km and takes 25 to 45 minutes. A private car falls under the minimum transfer: $145–$175 for an Executive Sedan, $180–$220 for a Luxury SUV and $295–$355 for an Executive Sprinter, before tax. The online booker shows the exact price for your address.
Is the 747 bus or a taxi cheaper than a limo from Gare Centrale?
Yes. The 747 is about $11 for a 24-hour pass, and ADM publishes a flat taxi rate of $49.45 by day and $56.70 at night for airport-to-downtown trips. A private car costs more, but it picks you up at the station, handles heavy luggage and runs to your schedule.
Does the Amtrak Adirondack still run to Montreal?
Amtrak's page describes the route from New York to Montréal, but it does not say whether the train is running today. Check Amtrak's service alerts before booking your journey, and give us your train number so the driver can follow it.
What is the price from Montreal to Mont-Tremblant by chauffeur?
The run is about 130 km and takes roughly 1 hour 30 minutes to 2 hours. Expect $610–$720 in an Executive Sedan, $760–$915 in a Luxury SUV and $1,075–$1,290 in an Executive Sprinter, before tax. Winter traffic can add time, so choose a vehicle that fits your ski gear.
Can a car take me from Montreal Central Station to Ottawa?
Yes. The drive is about 200 km, 2 hours to 2 hours 30 minutes, and costs about $930–$1,110 in a sedan or $1,170–$1,410 in an SUV. Taking VIA to Ottawa is cheaper if you have light luggage, but a private car avoids the transfer at the other end.
Do you wait if my train from Toronto or Ottawa is late?
Send us your train number at booking. Your driver follows the train's progress and adjusts the pick-up to the actual arrival, so a delay does not mean a missed car. If you have a tight connection, mention it in the notes.
