Windsor has two airports within an hour of each other and a border crossing between them, which makes it one of the more interesting places in Canada to book a car. A Windsor airport limo covers the straightforward trips, such as the 20-minute run from Windsor International Airport (YQG) to downtown or Caesars Windsor, and the more involved ones, such as a pickup at YQG and a drop-off at Detroit Metropolitan Airport (DTW) on the American side. LimousineCanada.ca quotes both, in Canadian dollars, with the distance and time shown.
Windsor airport limo service at YQG
Windsor International Airport sits at 3200 Cabana Road East, on the south-east side of the city. The airport's own website lists Air Canada to Toronto Pearson, Porter to Ottawa, seasonal WestJet to Calgary, and seasonal sun routes operated by Sunwing and Air Transat. The schedule is shorter than at a large hub, which means most arrivals cluster around a few flights and the curb is easy to manage.
The standard service starts with flight tracking and a driver assigned in advance. If the aircraft is late the pickup moves with it. The free wait is 30 minutes after landing on domestic arrivals and 60 minutes on international ones, counted from touchdown. A driver holding a name board inside the terminal is an optional add-on at $100–$150.
How much is a limo from Windsor airport to downtown Windsor?

Windsor International Airport is about 13 km from downtown Windsor and Caesars Windsor, a drive of roughly 20 minutes. A pre-booked airport limo costs $145–$175 in an Executive Sedan, $180–$220 in a Luxury SUV and $295–$355 in an Executive Sprinter, before tax, because the minimum transfer applies. Cross-border and long-distance fares scale with distance.
The table gives planning ranges. The Detroit row shows the fare before any border wait, which is billed separately as waiting time if it applies.
| Trip from YQG | Distance | Typical time | Executive Sedan | Luxury SUV | Executive Sprinter |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Downtown Windsor and Caesars Windsor | 13 km | 20 min | $145–$175 | $180–$220 | $295–$355 |
| Ambassador Bridge or the tunnel | 15 km | 20 min | $145–$175 | $180–$220 | $295–$355 |
| Detroit DTW, before border wait | 50 km | 45–60 min | $235–$280 | $290–$350 | $410–$495 |
| Leamington and the Point Pelee gateway | 55 km | 45 min | $255–$305 | $320–$390 | $455–$545 |
| London | 195 km | 2 h | $905–$1,080 | $1,140–$1,375 | $1,610–$1,930 |

Curb, rental counters and the rideshare zone at YQG
The airport's parking and ground transportation page describes the layout clearly. Rental counters are across from the domestic baggage claim. Taxi stands are at the curb outside domestic baggage claim, while limousines wait at the curb outside the west departure gates. Rideshare drop-off and pick-up for Uber and Lyft are at the departure level alongside regular passengers and taxis. A cell phone lot is free for 30 minutes for people waiting for an arrival.
We use that layout to keep pickups simple. Your driver messages you when the aircraft lands, and you walk to the agreed point with your bags. The airport also notes that parking upgrades may cause traffic and access changes, so we plan extra minutes for the curb when work is under way.
Taxi, Uber, Walkerville 8 bus or chauffeur: the real choices
The airport lists licensed taxis, rideshare, the Transit Windsor Walkerville 8 bus on weekdays and four rental companies. It does not list an airport shuttle.

| Option | Typical cost | Time to downtown | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Transit Windsor, Walkerville 8 | A standard city fare, weekdays only | Varies | Light-luggage travellers with a flexible schedule |
| Licensed taxi at the curb | Metered; roughly $25–$40 to downtown as a guide, so confirm with the driver | About 20 min | One or two travellers going into the city |
| Uber or Lyft | App price | About 20 min | Short trips for travellers already using the apps |
| Parking at YQG | $15 daily maximum in the long-term lot; first 30 minutes free in short-term | Self-drive | Return-trip drivers |
| Pre-booked chauffeured car | $145–$175 sedan, $180–$220 SUV | About 20 min | Groups, luggage, weekend nights, border runs, fixed price |
For a single traveller going downtown, a taxi or rideshare is the cheaper answer, and the weekday bus is cheaper still. A chauffeured car is the better choice for cross-border runs, for late nights, for groups and for visitors who want the price and the vehicle fixed before they board. The wider argument is laid out in limo vs rideshare.
Choosing the right vehicle
The Executive Sedan holds three passengers with two large bags and two carry-ons. The Luxury SUV holds six with five or six large bags and is the common pick for families flying to Detroit connections. The Executive Sprinter holds 12 to 14 with more than a dozen bags, for teams, tours and wedding parties. Stretch limousines for 8 to 10 passengers are booked by the hour.
Child seats are free when you request them at booking, which helps when a family is crossing the border. See the fleet page for each class and limo rates for the pricing method.
Windsor to Detroit Metropolitan Airport (DTW)
Many travellers use DTW because it has a much larger network than YQG. The drive from Windsor airport is about 50 km, 45 to 60 minutes before the border wait. DTW has two terminals: the McNamara Terminal serves Delta and WestJet among others, and the Evans Terminal serves Air Canada, American, United and others, according to the airport's own site. Tell the booker your airline and we will confirm the terminal before departure.

The honest comparison: flying from YQG through Toronto is simpler for most Canadian passport holders because there is no border formality. DTW wins when the destination is a US city or an international hub with a direct DTW flight. For a family of six heading to Orlando, a SUV at $290–$350 from YQG to DTW keeps everyone and every bag in one vehicle through the crossing.
For return pickups at DTW, the Wayne County Airport Authority publishes separate rules for taxis and luxury sedans and for prearranged transport, so we confirm the arrival procedure for your terminal before we quote a return from the US side. See the airport's page at Detroit Metro Airport.
Crossing the border: documents, bridge and tunnel
Proof of citizenship is required to cross the Windsor-Detroit border, according to the YQG website, and a passport is the best document. The Government of Canada describes a passport as the only reliable and universally accepted travel identification document. Carry the passport of every passenger, including children, and check the US rules at the CBP website before you travel, since US entry is a US decision and we cannot give legal advice on it.
The three crossings differ. The Gordie Howe International Bridge publishes a passenger-vehicle toll of $8.00 CAD or $5.75 USD, and its walking and cycling path is free. The Detroit-Windsor Tunnel operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and its site lists the toll rates. The Ambassador Bridge is the third. The booker accepts a preferred crossing in the notes. For the border paperwork when returning to Canada, see the CBSA's guide to travel documents. Details for the crossings are at Gordie Howe International Bridge and the Detroit-Windsor Tunnel.
Border waiting time is charged as waiting time. The cross-border explanation on our cross-border limo page describes how that is handled. The airport itself notes that it does not currently participate in NEXUS for customs clearance, which affects arrivals but not the road crossing.
Windsor events, Caesars Windsor and the riverfront
Windsor's riverfront looks across at downtown Detroit, and Caesars Windsor is the large entertainment complex on that stretch. The drive from YQG to the riverfront is about 13 km and 20 minutes. Evenings out are the best use of an hourly booking: a sedan at $135–$165 per hour with a two-hour minimum, or a SUV at $175–$210 per hour, gives you a driver who waits through dinner and a show, then returns you to a hotel on either side of the border.

Concert and sports nights in Detroit multiply the border effect, since traffic builds on both sides before and after events. We recommend departing earlier than the drive time suggests and booking the return with a generous margin.
Wine country, Leamington and Point Pelee
South-east of Windsor, Essex County's farms, vineyards and lake shore make a pleasant half-day. Leamington and the gateway to Point Pelee are about 55 km from YQG, 45 minutes. A sedan costs $255–$305 one way, and a SUV for a six-hour day is $1,050–$1,260 on an hourly booking. Our blog guide to Point Pelee National Park covers the park in more detail.
London, Toronto and the 401 corridor
From YQG, London is about 195 km and 2 hours, and Toronto Pearson is about 355 km and 3 hours 30 minutes to 4 hours. A sedan to Pearson is $1,650–$1,970, which is a serious journey; many travellers prefer the train or a connecting flight. Where you want one vehicle for a group of six, a SUV at $2,075–$2,505 splits to $345–$420 per person. Read the London Airport page for the other end of the corridor and the Pearson airport limo page for the Toronto terminal end.
A worked example: YQG to Detroit for an evening game
Suppose four colleagues land at YQG at 4:15 p.m. on a Friday and want to be in a downtown Detroit seat by 7 p.m. The drive from the airport to the border is about 15 km, the crossing itself depends on the queue, and the city drive on the American side adds a further 10 to 15 minutes. A SUV is the right size, at $290–$350 for the transfer to DTW and a similar range for a downtown drop-off based on distance. Allow time for the baggage claim, the border officer's questions and a possible secondary inspection.
The practical advice is to treat the border as the variable and build the margin around it. Check the wait times published by the Canadian and US border agencies before you leave, agree a preferred crossing with your driver and keep every passport in a pocket, not in a suitcase. For a return after midnight, book the car with a generous waiting period and tell us the game or show so we can anticipate the crowd. If a crossing closes or backs up, the driver will talk through a switch to another crossing with you.
Winter, fog and lake-effect conditions
The Detroit River corridor is flat and exposed. Freezing rain and fog can shut down a runway for an hour, and the same weather makes the approaches to the bridges slow. We monitor the road reports, add a buffer to quoted times when a storm is forecast and tell you early if a long run should be moved. In summer, construction and heavy truck traffic are the usual brakes on the border roads.
Weddings, groups and corporate guests
Windsor weddings draw guests from both sides of the border, so passport checks should be part of the planning. A Sprinter handles 12 to 14 guests from the airport, a stretch limousine for the couple is $225–$300 per hour with a three-hour minimum, and a mini-coach for 20 to 30 guests is $300–$420 per hour with a four-hour minimum. Our wedding limo page covers timelines. For automotive and manufacturing visitors, the corporate car service page explains accounts and invoicing.
Booking, flight tracking and cancellation
Enter your addresses, flight number and passenger count in the booker. If plans change, the scale is measured from the scheduled pickup time. There is no charge with more than 72 hours' notice, 10% at 72 hours or less, 50% at 48 hours or less, and 100% at 24 hours or less or a no-show. For the airport's own information, see its parking and ground transportation page and its customs and guest services page. Other airports on our network are listed in the airports index and the airport limo page.
