A Vancouver airport limo is the most comfortable way to cover the 15 km between Vancouver International Airport (YVR) and downtown, and the only sensible one for Whistler, the ferries and a large party. LimousineCanada.ca books a sedan, SUV or Sprinter for you, tracks your flight and tells you where your chauffeur is waiting. A YVR sedan transfer to downtown hotels is $145 to $175 before tax.

YVR is on Sea Island in Richmond, and it is built differently from most airports: a Domestic Terminal, an International Terminal that also handles US-bound flights, and a separate South Terminal for regional carriers. This guide explains how pre-arranged pickups work under the airport's own rules, how a limo compares with the Canada Line, and what a car service costs to downtown, Richmond, Burnaby, Surrey, Whistler, Canada Place and the BC Ferries terminals.

How much is a limo from YVR to downtown Vancouver?

A sedan from YVR to downtown Vancouver is $145 to $175 before tax, and a Luxury SUV is $180 to $220. The trip is about 15 km and takes 25 to 40 minutes depending on traffic. Short runs sit on the minimum transfer. For 12 to 14 passengers, the Sprinter minimum is $295 to $355.

Fares are built from distance. Sedan transfers run $4.65 to $5.55 per km with a $145 to $175 floor, Luxury SUV transfers run $5.85 to $7.05 per km with a $180 to $220 floor, and Sprinter transfers run $8.25 to $9.90 per km with a $295 to $355 floor. Prices are in Canadian dollars before tax, with gratuity at your discretion. The fare is kilometres multiplied by rate, never below the minimum, rounded to the nearest $5. The booker shows the exact all-in fare for your address, so use the table as a planning tool.

Vancouver airport limo rates: YVR to 21 destinations

Road distances are measured from the airport. Drive times run from light traffic to the heaviest, which in Metro Vancouver means the Oak Street and Knight Street bridges at rush hour, the tunnel corridor toward Tsawwassen, and the Lions Gate Bridge.

Most of the city sits inside the $145 to $175 minimum. That makes a short trip to Richmond poor value in a car, and a good argument for the Canada Line or a taxi, which we cover below. The price starts to follow distance on the North Shore, in Surrey and Langley, at the border, and on the run to Squamish and Whistler. For the full rate card, see limo rates.

YVR terminals: domestic, international, US transborder and South

The main building at YVR is split into a Domestic Terminal and an International Terminal. Flights to and from the United States use the International Terminal, where US preclearance happens for departures. A separate South Terminal, a short drive from the main buildings, handles regional services. Your airline determines the terminal, so confirm it on your booking before you give a pickup location.

This matters for chauffeurs because the airport assigns separate pick-up bays by terminal. The airport's commercial vehicle procedures describe International Terminal bay zones, including ITB 1 to 16 and ITB 22 to 29 with overflow, an East Loading Dock zone, and Domestic Terminal zones reached from the Level 1 terminal entrance. If your flight lands in a different building from the bay you were given, message your chauffeur and they will redirect.

Where pre-arranged chauffeur pickups meet at YVR

YVR is stricter about commercial vehicles than most airports, and that is good for you because the system is predictable. The airport's Commercial Vehicle Operating Procedures set out how it works.

Chauffeur in a dark suit waiting at a doorway
Chauffeur in a dark suit waiting at a doorway
  • Only operators holding an airport permit may pick up passengers.
  • Each trip must be registered by the operator at least 60 minutes before pickup. Book ahead rather than from the baggage hall.
  • Drivers wait in the Commercial Vehicle Holding Area on the airport's north side, then are dispatched through the airport's eDispatch system to a designated pick-up bay.
  • A vehicle may not stay in a bay longer than 30 minutes, and overstays can be charged.
  • Meet-and-greet is allowed for permit holders with a handheld sign for pre-arranged passengers. Soliciting walk-up customers is not.

In practice you receive a message with your chauffeur's name, the vehicle and the pickup bay. If you buy the name-board meet-and-greet ($100 to $150), your chauffeur waits in the arrivals hall with your name and walks you to the vehicle. Read the airport's own commercial vehicle procedures for the full rules. They are dated February 2024, and the airport reserves the right to adjust zones, so your chauffeur's message on the day is the authority.

Customs, baggage and the free wait at YVR

Arrivals from outside Canada pass through Canada Border Services Agency inspection in the International Terminal before you reach the arrivals hall. How long that takes depends on how many flights land at once, and the airport does not publish an average, so we do not guess at one.

What we can tell you is how the wait is handled. LimousineCanada.ca includes 60 minutes of free wait after landing on international arrivals and 30 minutes on domestic arrivals, measured from the actual landing time. Because the airport limits how long a vehicle can occupy a bay, your chauffeur coordinates the final move from the holding area with you, so message when you are clear of customs with your bags. If you are delayed past the free time, say so. We would rather extend the wait than lose the pickup.

Canada Line or a Vancouver airport limo?

The Canada Line is a good train, and it is the cheapest dependable way into the city. A plain comparison follows.

LimousineCanada.ca SUV or Sprinter$180 to $220 (SUV) or $295 to $355 (Sprinter)25 to 40 minutesFamilies, groups, skis, golf clubs, heavy luggage

The Canada Line fare is built from TransLink's published zone fares plus the $6.50 airport AddFare charged on journeys that start at YVR-Airport. Weekday trips before 6:30 pm are charged by zone, while trips after 6:30 pm on weekdays and all day on weekends are charged at the one-zone fare. TransLink lists the first YVR-to-Waterfront train at 5:09 am and the last at 12:54 am. Check the TransLink fares page and the SkyTrain schedule before you rely on a figure, because fares are revised each year.

Is a Vancouver airport limo worth it?

For some trips, no. If you are alone, land between 5 am and midnight, and are staying within a short walk of a SkyTrain station downtown, the train is cheaper than any car and comparable in speed. We would take it ourselves.

A limousine makes sense when the train does not suit the day. A late landing after the last train, a family with strollers and car seats, a party of six sharing one vehicle, a stack of ski or golf bags, a business arrival with an immediate meeting, and a destination in Kitsilano, the North Shore or Surrey with no direct line all justify the fare. Divide an SUV fare across four people and the gap closes quickly. The fare is also fixed at booking, which matters most on the days when cruise ships, concerts and storms make taxi lines long.

YVR to Canada Place: cruise terminal transfers

Most Alaska cruises leave from Canada Place on the downtown waterfront, about 16 km and 25 to 40 minutes from YVR. A sedan or SUV fits the $145 to $175 or $180 to $220 minimum, and a Sprinter suits a family group with trunks. Allow time for check-in at the terminal, because the cruise line sets the boarding window. Our Canada Place cruise terminal page explains the drop-off process, and the Pacific Central Station page covers rail arrivals.

If you land on the morning of your sailing, book the chauffeur for your actual landing time and add the free wait. Embarkation day is the worst moment to be late, so allow for bags that must clear customs.

YVR to Tsawwassen and Horseshoe Bay ferries

BC Ferries serves Vancouver Island and the Sunshine Coast from two terminals near Vancouver. Tsawwassen is about 30 km from YVR, and Horseshoe Bay about 35 km. BC Ferries' foot passenger guidance asks you to arrive at least 30 minutes before sailing, and booked foot passengers check in between 60 and 30 minutes before departure. Vehicle check-in times vary by terminal, and its site notes that Horseshoe Bay is affected by tides. Read the BC Ferries check-in guidance before you pick your pickup time.

We suggest planning to reach the terminal comfortably inside the check-in window, then adding a margin for the tunnel corridor on the way to Tsawwassen and for the Lions Gate Bridge or Upper Levels Highway on the way to Horseshoe Bay. If you are continuing to Vancouver Island by air instead, see our Victoria airport page.

YVR to Whistler

The Sea-to-Sky Highway to Whistler is about 135 km from the airport, and the trip typically takes two to three and a half hours depending on traffic, weather and construction. A sedan ranges from $630 to $750, a Luxury SUV from $795 to $955 and a Sprinter from $1,120 to $1,345. For skiers, the SUV is the sensible vehicle, because ski bags and boot bags use the luggage allowance fast. Winter-tire rules apply on Highway 99 through the cold season, so check DriveBC for conditions before departure, and leave extra time on weekends when the road is busy.

Richmond, Burnaby and Surrey

Richmond hotels near the airport are just 4 to 7 km away, and our minimum transfer applies. If you are staying at an airport hotel, ask whether it runs a courtesy shuttle, because that is often free. Burnaby's Metrotown and Brentwood are 16 to 20 km, and Surrey Central is 34 km, so those trips begin to carry the price of the distance. For corporate travel to the Surrey and Langley side of the Fraser, a chauffeur can be better than a train followed by a transfer.

Limo to YVR for departures

A limo to YVR is priced from the same distance table. Add a margin for the Oak Street and Knight Street bridges, and allow extra time if you are flying to the United States, because US preclearance happens at the airport before you board. As a general rule, aim to reach the airport about two hours before a domestic departure and three hours before an international or US one, and follow your airline's guidance if it asks for more. Tell us your terminal at booking.

For private aircraft, the Vancouver FBO page explains the different process. If you are planning a day around the city, see our Vancouver limo service page, and to compare airports across the country, use the airport limo hub.

Frequently asked questions

How much is a limo from Vancouver airport to downtown?

A sedan from YVR to downtown Vancouver is $145 to $175, and a Luxury SUV is $180 to $220, before tax. The distance is about 15 km, and the drive takes 25 to 40 minutes. A Sprinter seating 12 to 14 starts at $295 to $355, and the booker gives the exact fare for your address.

Where does my chauffeur meet me at YVR?

YVR assigns pre-arranged vehicles to designated pick-up bays by terminal, and the airport dispatches each vehicle from its commercial holding area. Your chauffeur sends the bay and vehicle details by message. With the meet-and-greet add-on, your chauffeur waits in the arrivals hall with a name sign instead.

How far ahead do I need to book a YVR pickup?

Book as early as you can. YVR requires operators to register each pre-arranged trip at least 60 minutes before pickup, so a booking made after landing cannot be registered. Booking days ahead also lets us confirm the vehicle you need and fix the fare.

How long will the chauffeur wait after my plane lands?

On international arrivals the free wait is 60 minutes from landing, and on domestic arrivals it is 30. Your flight is tracked, so timing runs from the real touchdown. If customs is slow, message us and we will extend the wait.

Is the Canada Line cheaper than a limo from YVR?

Yes. TransLink's published zone fares plus the $6.50 airport AddFare come to roughly $9.35 to $11.60 for an adult, and the trip to downtown takes about 25 minutes. It suits solo travellers with light luggage. A limousine suits groups, heavy bags, late arrivals and destinations away from the SkyTrain.

What does a limo from YVR to Whistler cost?

A sedan is $630 to $750, a Luxury SUV is $795 to $955, and a Sprinter is $1,120 to $1,345 for the 135 km run, before tax. Plan on two to three and a half hours. Winter conditions on Highway 99 can add time, so leave a margin.

Can you take me from YVR to the Tsawwassen ferry or Canada Place?

Yes. Tsawwassen is about 30 km and Canada Place about 16 km from YVR. A sedan is $145 to $175 for either, and an SUV is $180 to $220. Give us your sailing time and we will help you choose a pickup time with room for check-in.

Are child seats available?

Yes, and there is no charge if you request one when booking. Put the child's age and weight in your booking notes so the right seat is installed before your pickup.
