St. John's airport limo service for a city on the edge of the Atlantic
A St. John's airport limo is a different proposition from a limo in most Canadian cities. The airport is close to downtown, the roads are short and hilly, the weather is a constant character, and the best sights are on headlands and in harbour villages that no timetable quite reaches. LimousineCanada.ca offers a pre-booked chauffeur transfer from St. John's International Airport (YYT) that is built around those realities.
You book a vehicle and your flight number on our own booker. Your driver tracks the flight, so a morning of fog or a late connection through Halifax or Toronto does not strand a car at the kerb. The fare is quoted before you pay, and it is the fare you are charged. From the airport you can go straight to a downtown hotel, or turn the same booking into a half-day of Signal Hill, Quidi Vidi and Cape Spear with the luggage staying in the car.
We should also be plain about what is cheap and what is not. A trip from the airport to downtown is short, and there are low-cost ways to make it, which we compare below. A private car is strongest when you are travelling in a group, arriving with heavy luggage, going beyond the city, or want a driver for the day.
How far is St. John's airport from downtown St. John's?
St. John's International Airport is less than 10 km from the downtown core, according to the airport authority, and the drive is typically 12 to 15 minutes. The terminal is at 100 World Parkway, and the airport entrance is about 1 km from the highway ramps.
The airport's own guide says that within about 15 minutes of getting into a taxi you can be checking into a hotel, which matches the usual experience outside rush hour.
The short distance explains why the transfer fares below are mostly flat at the minimum. At around 9 km, no downtown run reaches the minimum on distance alone, so the cost is the same whether you stay near Water Street or at a hotel on the hill. Only Cape Spear, and longer trips beyond the city, push distance into the calculation.
One timing detail catches visitors out. Newfoundland Standard Time is half an hour ahead of Atlantic time, so a connection from Halifax or elsewhere in the Maritimes arrives on a clock that is thirty minutes different from the one in your pocket. Your driver works from the flight's actual landing time, so you do not need to convert anything.

St. John's airport car service fares from YYT
All fares use the same rate card: distance multiplied by a per-kilometre rate, never below the vehicle's minimum. The figures are Canadian dollars, tax not included, and tipping is left to you. Distances are approximate road distances; the booker works out the exact fare for the address you enter.
| Destination from YYT | Approx. distance and time | Executive Sedan (3 pax) | Luxury SUV (6 pax) | Executive Sprinter (12-14 pax) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Downtown hotels and George Street | 9 km, 12-15 min | $145-$175 | $180-$220 | $295-$355 |
| Cruise ships on Harbour Drive | 9 km, 12-15 min | $145-$175 | $180-$220 | $295-$355 |
| Quidi Vidi village and the brewery | 11 km, 15-20 min | $145-$175 | $180-$220 | $295-$355 |
| Signal Hill and Cabot Tower | 12 km, 15-20 min | $145-$175 | $180-$220 | $295-$355 |
| Cape Spear | 25 km, 30-35 min | $145-$175 | $180-$220 | $295-$355 |
If you want to see several of these places in one day, an hourly booking is better value than separate transfers. A Luxury SUV is $175 to $210 per hour with a two-hour minimum; a stretch limousine is $225 to $300 per hour with a three-hour minimum. Details of every vehicle are on our fleet page, and rates for the full network are on the limo rates page.
Where you meet your driver at St. John's airport
YYT is a compact terminal. Arrivals and baggage claim are on the main floor, and the walk from the gate to the kerb is brief. The airport's taxi page says cabs queue outside the arrivals area, with a dispatcher on hand when the stand is closed.

Your booking confirmation states the exact meeting point for your flight, and your driver's mobile number arrives before you land. For a gentler arrival, add the name-board meet and greet, an add-on at $100 to $150, in which your driver waits inside the arrivals hall, helps with bags and walks you out.
Please read this. The airport authority's ground transportation page lists a single taxi company as the exclusive provider of public ground transportation services and does not describe how pre-arranged vehicles are handled. We do not want you standing at the kerb working that out. Your booking confirmation carries the pickup arrangement for your flight, so follow it rather than a general description.
Is a taxi cheaper than a limo at St. John's airport?
Yes, for the downtown run, and it is worth saying so. The airport's own taxi page publishes fixed hotel rates departing the airport: $35 to all downtown hotels and B&Bs, $21 to the Best Western and Holiday Inn Express, $25 to the Comfort Inn, $27 to the Holiday Inn, Super 8 and Hampton Inn, $42 to a few others, and the meter plus a $5 surcharge to locations not on the list. The airport explains that those rates include a premium because the taxis wait for arriving passengers.

That is about a third of our downtown minimum. If you are one or two people with a couple of bags travelling straight to a downtown hotel, take the taxi. Our case begins when the trip is not that simple: a family with car seats, a party with golf or hiking gear, a business group that wants a vehicle for the day, or anyone with an itinerary that runs to the headlands or the harbour villages.
Cheapest ways from St. John's airport to downtown

The cheapest way from St. John's airport to downtown is Metrobus Route 14, though it usually needs a transfer. The airport's posted taxi rate to downtown hotels is $35. A pre-booked private sedan is $145 to $175, with a fixed price, flight tracking and help carrying luggage.
| Choice | Typical cost (CAD) | Time to downtown | Good for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Metrobus Route 14 | transit fare, see metrobus.com | slower, often a transfer | Solo travellers with light luggage and time |
| City Wide Taxi from the airport | $35 posted rate to downtown hotels | 12-15 min | One or two travellers heading to a hotel |
| Hotel shuttle | usually free or low cost, by hotel | varies | Hotels with their own airport service |
| Executive Sedan, pre-booked | $145-$175 | 12-15 min | Fixed price, flight tracking, up to 3 |
| Luxury SUV, pre-booked | $180-$220 | 12-15 min | Up to 6 with large bags |
Route 14 is the bus that serves the airport, with two stops, one near the arrivals area and one on World Parkway close to the Holiday Inn Express. It runs to central St. John's and on to Memorial University. The airport's public transportation page is the place to check the current schedule and the link to fares. Some hotels also run their own airport shuttles directly, which is worth asking about before you book anything.
A St. John's to Signal Hill transfer
Signal Hill National Historic Site, at 230 Signal Hill Road, rises above the harbour mouth and is the city's best-known landmark, topped by Cabot Tower. Parks Canada says the grounds are open year-round, with visitor services operating on a seasonal schedule that, for 2026, runs from June 1 to October 9. Outside those dates the hill is still there, the views are the same and the wind is considerably stronger.

From the airport the run is about 12 km. A chauffeur is useful here for two reasons. Having a driver drop you at the top and collect you afterwards saves circling for a space, and in bad weather it spares you a wet walk from a distant one. Parks Canada publishes visitor information at parks.canada.ca.
Quidi Vidi village and Quidi Vidi Lake
Quidi Vidi is a small fishing village folded into a steep cleft about 2 km from the north-east edge of downtown. It has a brewery in a converted fish plant, a battery dating from 1762, craft studios and a lake that hosts the St. John's Regatta. The Cuckold's Cove trail links it with Signal Hill on foot in about 30 minutes, so many visitors combine the two.
A good half-day is to start at Signal Hill, drop down to Quidi Vidi for lunch or a tasting, then continue to the city. Booked hourly in a Luxury SUV, that plan is comfortable, and you do not have to decide in advance who is driving after the brewery. Roads in the village are narrow and sometimes steep, and a driver who does this regularly will place the car where it can actually stop.
A Cape Spear transfer from St. John's airport
Cape Spear, on Blackhead Road south-east of the city, is home to one of the best-known lighthouses on the Atlantic coast. Parks Canada describes it as about a 20-minute drive from downtown St. John's, so it is a manageable detour on the way from the airport to your hotel.
Conditions deserve respect. The grounds are open year-round, but visitor services run only from June to October, and the last section of access road up to the lighthouse is steep. In winter the site can be windswept and icy, and fog is common in any season. A private driver means you can ask for a short stop and a photograph without watching a meter. We hold the vehicle on an hourly basis, and we recommend a buffer of an hour or more at Cape Spear for the walk and the weather.

St. John's airport transfers for cruise passengers
When a cruise ship is in port, vessels berth along Harbour Drive on the downtown waterfront, within walking distance of Water Street and George Street. The City of St. John's has noted in its cruise-day notices that parking is limited on Harbour Drive for tour operators and passenger transport, and it recommends allowing for changes in ship times because of weather and scheduling.
For passengers joining a ship, a morning transfer from the airport to the harbour is a simple 9 km run at the minimum fare. For those leaving, it works in reverse. Our Halifax cruise port car service page explains the equivalent arrangements on the Nova Scotia side for itineraries that pair the two ports.
Fog, wind and winter at YYT
Weather is the main variable at St. John's. Local news reports repeatedly describe fog and crosswinds causing delays and cancellations at the airport, and local reports say the airport has upgraded its landing systems to reduce the effect of low visibility. Winter adds snow and ice to the mix.
What does that mean for you? First, do not set a rigid pickup time. Your driver follows the flight number, so a delayed plane means a later pickup at no extra charge. Included waiting runs from landing: 60 minutes for international arrivals, 30 minutes for domestic. Second, allow extra time on any day when the forecast calls for fog, snow or freezing rain, particularly if you are heading to Cape Spear.
Our cancellation terms are measured from the scheduled pickup time: no charge for more than 72 hours' notice, 10% at 72 hours or less, 50% at 48 hours or less, and 100% at 24 hours or less or for a no-show. If your airline cancels or reroutes you, tell us as soon as you know and we will reorganise the transfer where we can.
