Vancouver cruise port limo service: Canada Place at a glance

Canada Place is the pier and convention complex on Vancouver's downtown waterfront, with its sail-shaped roof over Burrard Inlet. Cruise ships board at the terminal inside it, and the civic address printed on cruise-line documents is 999 Canada Place, Vancouver, BC V6C 3E1. Holland America's own port page lists that address and notes it is not a mailing address. The Port of Vancouver publishes the pier's directions and parking guidance, and it is the first place to check for changes before a sailing.

Alaska sailings are the reason most travellers use this pier. Ships leave Canada Place, run north through the Inside Passage and come back a week or more later; on many itineraries the last stop before returning is Victoria, as the Ogden Point guide explains. Because one ship empties and another fills on the same day, turnaround days are among the busiest at any Canadian cruise port.

This page covers the four jobs a chauffeur does here: the airport or hotel run to the ship, the exit run after disembarkation, the mountain run to Whistler, and the cross-border run to Seattle. The booker at LimousineCanada.ca gives an exact all-in fare for the exact address; the ranges below let you plan first.

How do I get from Vancouver airport to Canada Place?

Aircraft silhouetted at sunset on the apron
Aircraft silhouetted at sunset on the apron

Vancouver International Airport is about 16 km from Canada Place, roughly 25 to 40 minutes by road depending on traffic and the number of ships boarding. A private Executive Sedan is $145–$175, a Luxury SUV $180–$220, before tax. The Canada Line train is cheaper and takes a similar time.

The road leg is simple: from Sea Island across the Fraser River, up through the city and down to the waterfront, finishing on the vehicle ramp described below. Midday is the easiest time to travel; the morning commute toward downtown and the late-afternoon exit are the slow windows, and a turnaround day with two ships in port adds pressure around the pier itself.

The airport sits in Richmond, so flight tracking matters as much as the road. If you land in the morning and your boarding slot is mid-afternoon, a chauffeur can take you to your hotel first or drop bags at the pier's luggage service and keep you moving through the city. Holland America's page notes luggage storage at Canada Place from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., run by a third party, and Destination Vancouver lists luggage storage inside Canada Place too.

After an international landing the first 60 minutes of waiting are included (30 on a domestic flight), and a chauffeur with a name board inside the arrivals hall is an optional extra at $100–$150. The airport side of the trip has its own guide: Vancouver airport limo. For the wider city, see Vancouver limo service, and for other Canadian ports start at the cruise port hub.

Canada Place drop-off: the vehicle ramp, levels and the 15-minute rule

Private vehicles do not stop on the street in front of the sails. The Port's published directions send them down the vehicle ramp at the foot of Howe Street, where a Port traffic attendant directs them to the drop-off point marked for the ship. Cruise bags carry the vessel's name, and porters take them at the kerb. Stops of 15 minutes or less are permitted for dropping off and collecting cruise passengers; longer waits go into the parkade and attract parking fees.

Pick-up after disembarkation uses a signed zone on the P1 level, and a car that arrives before its passengers must leave the lane and wait in a bay. That rule is why timing a disembarkation pickup is a coordination job: the chauffeur holds a short distance away and moves in when you message that you are through the terminal.

Treat this as a guide rather than a guarantee. Arrangements around the pier change for events, and in mid-2025 the City of Vancouver published a notice about Canada Place being closed to traffic and cruise ride-hail pickups being redirected. Your chauffeur checks the live arrangement before every sailing and gives you the exact door or level in the confirmation message.

Embarkation day for an Alaska sailing, step by step

A typical embarkation day has five moments, and the chauffeur plan works backward from the third.

  1. Wake-up and hotel departure. Tags on every checked bag, documents in your carry-on, and an agreed hotel pickup time.
  2. The drive. Ten to 25 minutes from most downtown hotels, 25 to 40 from YVR.
  3. The kerb. Bags to the porter, then through Canadian security into the check-in hall.
  4. Check-in and boarding. Your cruise line's slot, normally a stated window.
  5. Sailing. Boarding closes well before the ship leaves, so never treat the sailing time as your arrival time.

Arrive within your slot. A very early arrival means a long wait in a building that is crowded for everyone at once, while a very late arrival compresses security and check-in. Ask the chauffeur to time the kerb stop to the middle of your window.

If your party has more than three guests or more than two large bags, move up a vehicle. The fleet page shows the capacity of each class; an Executive Sedan carries three guests with two large bags and two carry-ons, a Luxury SUV six guests with five or six large bags, and an Executive Sprinter 12 to 14 guests with 12 or more bags.

U.S. customs and Alaska sailings: what to expect at Canada Place

Alaska sailings from Vancouver end at a U.S. port, so the border question comes up every time. The honest answer is that the arrangements belong to your cruise line, and you should follow its boarding documents rather than assume.

Cruise ships berthed at a busy port
Cruise ships berthed at a busy port

The Government of Canada's preclearance page lists the places where U.S. preclearance operations are authorized in Canada. Vancouver International Airport and Vancouver Pacific Central Station are on it; the Canada Place cruise terminal is not. That matters in two ways. For your pier arrival, expect Canadian security and the cruise line's check-in, and read your documents for any additional border step. For your onward trip, a U.S.-bound flight from YVR clears U.S. inspection at the airport before departure, which is useful to know if you are heading to Seattle or beyond after the cruise.

Carry your passport, not a copy, and keep any visa or travel authorization documents in your hand luggage. Children travelling with one parent should carry the supporting paperwork the cruise line asks for.

Airport and hotel transfers to the ship, with fares

The table shows the typical runs in the Canada Place area. Fares are before tax; tolls and gratuity are extra, and the minimum transfer applies where the per-kilometre figure falls below it.

Canada Place to YVR (disembarkation)16 km, 25–40 min$145–$175$180–$220$295–$355

Short runs pay the minimum, so the better value on a downtown hotel transfer is to combine legs. A booking that brings you from the airport to a hotel for the afternoon and then to the ship later is two minimum transfers; a two-hour hourly booking at $135–$165 an hour in a sedan costs about the same and keeps the same car and driver with your bags.

Hourly time is also the tidy way to see the city on a pre-cruise day. Stanley Park, Granville Island and Gastown fit comfortably into a three-hour booking: $405–$495 in an Executive Sedan, $520–$630 in a Luxury SUV, with a stretch limousine at $675–$900 for eight to ten guests.

Canada Place transport options compared

Vancouver is one of the few cruise ports where the public-transit answer is genuinely good. The table says plainly when to skip the car.

Private sedan or SUV$145–$22025–40 min, door to doorFamilies, heavy bags, tight boarding slots

The Canada Line is run by TransLink, and its SkyTrain schedule page lists the airport branch to Waterfront Station, with first train at 5:09 a.m. and last at 12:54 a.m. and a train every six minutes at peak. For a solo traveller with a carry-on and a medium case, it is the best-value way to reach Canada Place. A chauffeur is the better choice when you are carrying cruise cases, travelling with children, arriving on a night when ships are loading, or simply want the first hour of the holiday to be calm.

Ship to YVR: a disembarkation-day plan

Disembarkation at Canada Place runs on the cruise line's group schedule. You collect your luggage in the terminal, clear the exit process, and walk out to your pre-arranged car. The pickup time should be your group's release time plus the time you expect to spend collecting bags, not the ship's arrival time.

For a flight home, the airport rule of thumb is to be at the airport in time for check-in cut-off. For a U.S.-bound flight, YVR's preclearance means U.S. inspection happens at the airport before you board, so allow extra time for it. Late-morning and early-afternoon departures work well from a standard disembarkation group; early-morning flights require self-assist disembarkation.

Tell the chauffeur your group number, the colour of your luggage tags and the flight number. Flights are tracked from the booking, so a delayed departure does not force a rebooking. If you are staying on for a night, the same car can take you straight to a hotel or into the city for the afternoon on an hourly booking.

Ship to Whistler by private car

Whistler is the most common post-cruise add-on, a day or two of mountain scenery after a week at sea. The drive follows Highway 99, the Sea-to-Sky Highway, out of Vancouver, and it is about 122 km from Canada Place with a drive time of roughly two hours in clear conditions. In winter, snow, rockfall and incidents can stretch that to three or more, so add a margin to an evening arrival.

TripDistance and timeExecutive SedanLuxury SUVExecutive Sprinter
Canada Place to Whistler Village122 km, 2–2.5 hr$570–$675$715–$865$1,005–$1,210

A stop at Squamish, about halfway, adds 30 to 45 minutes. Ask for it at booking if you want a scenic break; unplanned stops can push you past a hotel check-in time. A family of five with luggage fits in one Luxury SUV, and a group of ten fits an Executive Sprinter with room for skis.

Ship to Seattle: the cross-border transfer

Seattle is the other natural onward trip, because many Alaska itineraries start or end there. The road distance is about 232 km from Canada Place to downtown Seattle and about 253 km to Seattle-Tacoma International. The drive is roughly three hours without a border queue, and the crossing at the land border south of Vancouver can add anywhere from a few minutes to more than an hour, so plan on three and a half to four and a half hours.

TripDistance and timeExecutive SedanLuxury SUVExecutive Sprinter
Canada Place to downtown Seattle232 km, 3.5–4.5 hr$1,080–$1,290$1,360–$1,635$1,915–$2,295
Canada Place to Sea-Tac Airport253 km, 4–5 hr$1,180–$1,405$1,480–$1,785$2,085–$2,505

Bring passports for every passenger. Tell the booker the final address, and add a buffer for the border before any flight. If a seat on a scheduled service is enough, Holland America's page points to a motorcoach shuttle between Vancouver and Seattle and to Amtrak from Pacific Central Station to King Street Station. Pacific Central is on the Vancouver train station page and is 2.8 km from the pier. Those options typically cost less and run on fixed schedules; a private car makes sense for a group, for a tight flight, or for the cruise-case problem.

Choosing the right vehicle for Canada Place

Think in bags first and passengers second. A Vancouver week-long Alaska cruise usually means one large case per person plus a carry-on, and couples often add a fifth bag for formal nights or cold-weather layers.

  • Executive Sedan: one to three guests, two large bags and two carry-ons.
  • Luxury SUV: up to six guests, five to six large bags. The sensible choice for most families.
  • Executive Sprinter: 12 to 14 guests with 12 or more bags. Good for multi-family groups and reunions.
  • Stretch limousine: eight to ten guests, hourly at $225–$300, three-hour minimum, for a celebration before boarding.
  • Mini-coach: 20 to 30 guests, $300–$420 an hour with a four-hour minimum, for wedding parties and groups joining one ship.

The full rate card is on the limousine rates page. Ask for a child seat when you book and it is fitted at no charge.

Frequently asked questions

How much is a limo from Vancouver airport to the cruise terminal?

An Executive Sedan from YVR to Canada Place is typically $145–$175, a Luxury SUV $180–$220 and an Executive Sprinter $295–$355, before tax. The distance is about 16 km, with a drive of 25 to 40 minutes. The booker shows the exact fare for your address.

Where do I get dropped off at Canada Place?

Private vehicles use the ramp at the foot of Howe Street, where a Port attendant directs them to the drop-off point for your ship. Stops of 15 minutes or less are permitted. Your chauffeur confirms the exact arrangement before your sailing.

Is there U.S. preclearance at Canada Place for Alaska cruises?

Ottawa's published list of authorized sites includes Vancouver International Airport and Pacific Central Station, but not the Canada Place cruise terminal. Follow your cruise line's boarding instructions for any border step, and keep your passport in your carry-on.

What is the cheapest way to get from YVR to Canada Place?

The Canada Line train. It runs from the airport to Waterfront Station beside the pier. For one traveller with light luggage, it is the better choice. A private car pays for itself with cruise cases, children, or a tight boarding slot.

How far is Canada Place from downtown hotels?

Most downtown hotels are within one to four kilometres, a five to 15 minute drive. Those runs pay the minimum transfer: $145–$175 in an Executive Sedan, $180–$220 in a Luxury SUV.

Can you take me from the ship to Whistler?

Yes. Whistler is about 122 km from Canada Place, usually two hours to two and a half. An Executive Sedan is $570–$675, a Luxury SUV $715–$865 and an Executive Sprinter $1,005–$1,210. Winter weather can lengthen the drive.

Do you do cross-border transfers from the cruise port to Seattle?

Yes. Downtown Seattle is about 232 km from Canada Place and Sea-Tac about 253 km. Expect 3.5 to 4.5 hours including the border. An Executive Sedan to downtown is $1,080–$1,290, a Luxury SUV $1,360–$1,635. Bring passports for everyone.

Can I add a stop on the way to Canada Place?

Yes. A pharmacy, a grocery run or a quick hotel collection can be added to the booking. Short stops fit inside a transfer; longer ones are better as an hourly booking. Tell the booker the addresses so the fare covers the full route.

Can I book a pickup from the ship if my disembarkation time changes?

Yes. Tell us your disembarkation group and flight; the pickup is set from the time you expect to leave the terminal. If the ship berths late, message the chauffeur and the car holds nearby until you are through.
