YXU is a regional airport, and its own website lists Porter, Air Canada, WestJet, Sunwing and Air Transat as the carriers using it. Airlines and seasonal routes change, so the safest approach is to enter your flight number in the booker and let tracking do the rest. If the aircraft is late the pickup moves with it, and the free waiting period starts at touchdown: 30 minutes for domestic arrivals and 60 minutes for international arrivals.

A chauffeured sedan, SUV or Executive Sprinter is a good fit for London because the city is spread out. The airport is on the north-east side of the urban area, and the hospitals, the university, the downtown core and the suburbs lie in different directions. The curb at YXU: where your driver meets you

The airport's terminal page describes an Arrivals Curb and a Departures Curb, and it asks passengers to use the Departures Curb door when they can to reduce delays at drop-off and pick-up. Staff known as Airport Comfort Enhancers wear bright blue shirts and answer questions, and the page lists a text number for them. Accessible parking is near the Arrivals Curb.

Uber, taxi, London Transit or chauffeur: an honest comparison

The airport's ground transportation page is unusually clear. London Transit serves the airport 14 times a day, there is a daily bus to Sarnia, licensed taxis and limousines wait outside the terminal at regulated rates, and Uber and Lyft pick up at the terminal curb outside the arrivals door at the north end of the sidewalk.

If you are alone, travelling light and your hotel is on a transit route, the bus or a rideshare is perfectly sensible. A chauffeured car is worth the difference when the party is larger, the schedule is tight, the pickup is at an odd hour or the price needs to be known in advance. Which vehicle should you choose

Start with the Executive Sedan, which seats three passengers with two large bags and two carry-ons. The Luxury SUV seats six with five or six large bags, a common choice for family arrivals and small delegations. The Executive Sprinter seats 12 to 14 passengers with more than a dozen bags and suits team travel, tours and wedding parties. London to Toronto Pearson by chauffeur

Many people who live in London fly out of Pearson for the network of long-haul flights, and the 180 km drive is well suited to a pre-booked car. The trip takes two hours in good traffic and longer at rush hour or in poor weather on the 401. A sedan costs $835–$1,000, a SUV $1,055–$1,270 and a Sprinter $1,485–$1,780. Shared between six passengers in a SUV, that is roughly $175–$210 per person.

A train to Toronto takes more than two hours according to travel guides, and it ends at Union Station, not at the airport. Western University, hospitals and corporate visitors

London is a university and hospital city, so visiting academics, clinicians and families are regular passengers. Western University is about 18 km from the airport. Nights at Canada Life Place, the Grand and Covent Garden

London's venues cluster downtown. Canada Life Place, at 99 Dundas Street, is the home of the London Knights, and the Grand Theatre on Richmond Street runs a mainstage season from September to May. Covent Garden Market is the central food market. For event nights, we recommend a time-based booking rather than two separate transfers. A sedan held for three hours at $135–$165 per hour gives you a car at the curb when the final whistle or curtain call ends.

Traffic around the arena slows after an event, and rideshare surge pricing can peak at the same moment. A pre-booked driver who knows the pickup point does not rely on either.

Stratford, Grand Bend and day trips by private car

Stratford is about 55 km from the airport and 45 minutes by road. The 401 runs from London to Windsor, about 205 km and two hours ten minutes from YXU. From there, many travellers cross to Detroit and its airport, DTW, about 265 km from London before any border wait. Winter on the 401 and the snowbelt

Southwestern Ontario weather is local. Lake-effect snow off Lake Huron can close a stretch of road north and west of London while the airport stays clear, and a squall on the 401 can slow the Pearson run to a crawl. We watch road conditions as well as the flight board, and we tell you when a longer buffer is wise. For a morning departure from Pearson in winter, aim to leave London earlier than the quoted drive time suggests, and book the return for a time that tolerates delay.

If the roads are poor, the better plan may be to fly from YXU and skip the drive altogether. We are happy to say so, because a cancelled trip is cheaper for you than a missed flight.

Early flights and parking comparisons

Self-drivers will notice that airport parking at YXU is cashless and automated, with a daily maximum of $20 until the end of November 2026 and $24 after that, according to the airport. For a one-night trip with a single driver, parking is cheaper than a round-trip chauffeured transfer. For a week away with two travellers who would rather not pay for parking, a drop-off and pick-up booking is competitive once you add fuel and the value of someone else driving at 4 a.m.
