CNE limo service: who actually needs a car at the Ex

The Canadian National Exhibition, known to most Torontonians as the CNE or the Ex, is a late-summer fair at Exhibition Place on the Toronto waterfront. It is a place people visit in large family groups, with strollers, grandparents and a day bag full of snacks, and with a crowd that thins and thickens all day. A CNE limo service is not for everyone, and it is better to say so. If you are one adult staying downtown, the GO train or a streetcar is cheaper and about as quick.

A chauffeured car earns its fare in other situations: arriving from Pearson with luggage and a family, travelling as a multigenerational group, hosting clients or guests, or heading to the fair from a part of the Greater Toronto Area that does not have easy transit. This guide is built from the CNE's own published getting-here information and hours, and from the arrival point, whether that is Toronto Pearson, Billy Bishop or Union Station. Use the online booker to see the all-in fare for your own start and finish.

When is the CNE?

The CNE's official site lists the next fair as August 20 to September 6, 2027, at Exhibition Place in Toronto. The 2026 fair has closed. The fair runs through Labour Day, and hours and ticket sales change on that final day, so check the official hours page before you plan.

The dates come from the CNE website, which also notes that the 2026 CNE is now closed. Labour Day in 2027 falls on Monday, September 6, the last day on the CNE's published range. If you are a regular visitor, remember that the shape of the fair, including its Labour Day schedule, is set each year, so recheck the hours before you go.

Where Exhibition Place is and how people reach it

Exhibition Place sits north of Lake Shore Boulevard West, between Strachan Avenue and Dufferin Street, and the CNE says it can be reached directly from the Gardiner Expressway. It has two principal gates that matter for plans: Dufferin Gate on the west and the Princes' Gates on the east at Strachan.

The CNE's getting here page lists the options it published for the 2026 fair. Because the 2027 page will be updated, treat these details as the model and confirm them. They included GO Transit, TTC routes, parking, bike parking and accommodation, and they did not cover drop-off or rideshare zones, so those details are for you to confirm with the organizers.

Pearson, Billy Bishop and Union Station to Exhibition Place

Exhibition Place is west of the downtown core, so it is a shorter drive from Pearson than the downtown run. Travel sources put Pearson roughly 27 km from the downtown core, and the fairgrounds are closer than that, so the minimum transfer applies. Before tax, with tolls such as the 407 ETR and gratuity extra:

Grand hall of a historic railway station

Pearson to Exhibition Place (under 27 km, 25–40 min off-peak)$145–$175$180–$220$295–$355
Union Station to Exhibition Place (a few km, 10–25 min)$145–$175$180–$220$295–$355
Downtown hotel to Exhibition Place (a few km, 10–25 min)$145–$175$180–$220$295–$355

Flight tracking is included, international arrivals include 60 minutes of free waiting, domestic arrivals 30, and a name-board meet-and-greet in arrivals is $100 to $150. See the Pearson airport limo page and the Billy Bishop page for terminal details, and the Toronto airport limo page for the whole picture.

GO Transit, the TTC and bikes: the official arrangements

The CNE's page for the 2026 fair named these options.

  • GO Transit. Take the Lakeshore West line to Exhibition GO Station. Weekday Group Passes started at $30 for two people, and One-Day Weekend Passes (valid on Labour Day) were $10. Children 12 and under ride free.
  • TTC. The 509 Harbourfront streetcar runs from Union Station to Exhibition Loop. The 504B King streetcar ran from Broadview Station to Dufferin Gate Loop, the 29 Dufferin bus from Dufferin Station south to Dufferin Gate Loop, and a replacement bus from Bathurst Station to Exhibition Loop covered the 511 Bathurst route. The CNE advised checking the TTC's CNE page for the best route.
  • Bikes. Bike parking is available outside Dufferin Gate and the Princes' Gates, with routes along the Martin Goodman Trail and bike lanes on Strachan Avenue, Fort York Boulevard and Wellington Avenue.

Veterans and Canadian Armed Forces members travelled free on GO and UP Express with valid ID in 2026, and one companion also travelled free for the Warriors' Day Parade on Saturday, August 22. For the airport, the UP Express links Pearson to Union Station, and from Union you can take the 509 or the GO train, so a visitor without much luggage has a simple transit route.

Hours, Labour Day and the five o'clock rule

The CNE's hours page lists regular hours and a different set for Labour Day. In the version I opened, the gates were open 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on regular days and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Labour Day. The grounds stayed open from 10 a.m. to midnight, then 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Labour Day. Buildings ran 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. and 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Labour Day. The adult midway ran 11 a.m. to midnight on weekdays and 10 a.m. to midnight on weekends, with Labour Day hours of 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.

The most important detail for any driver is the Labour Day entry rule. The page states that there is no entry or re-entry after 5:00 p.m., that no re-entry stamps are given after 3:00 p.m., and that online tickets can be bought on Labour Day until 2 p.m. with on-site gate ticket sales ending at 5 p.m. So if you plan a Labour Day visit, aim to arrive by early afternoon. The page does not label these hours with a year, so recheck them for 2027.

Parking, drop-off and the reality of a busy gate

The CNE listed parking rates from $40 to $50 across the grounds in 2026. Parking is therefore a real cost compared with GO or the TTC, and a car with a driver who drops you at the gate and leaves is often a better comparison with a day of parking than the headline fare suggests. For a family of four with a stroller, the break-even on convenience arrives quickly.

The CNE page does not describe a drop-off zone, so ask the organizers or your hospitality contact where a pre-booked car may stop. In practice, drivers use the streets adjacent to the gates, such as the approach from Strachan or Dufferin, and agree a pickup point away from the main gate to avoid the closing-time crush. Give a mobile number and be flexible.

The air show: what I could and could not verify

The CNE's website links an Air Show attraction page, but I could not open that page, and the fair's main pages do not list air show dates. I will not guess a day or a lineup. If the air show matters to your trip, check the CNE's attractions page when the 2027 programme is released, and book your car for the day when you know it.

Large aerial events on the waterfront draw crowds to the lakeshore as well as to the fairgrounds, and Lake Shore Boulevard can fill up. If the air show is on, plan to arrive earlier than usual and leave later than the crowd, and do not schedule a tight airport transfer on the same afternoon.

Families, strollers, seniors and accessibility

The CNE is a family event, and the practical points are the same as at any large fair. Book a vehicle with more seats than you need, since strollers, coolers and shopping bags take space. A Luxury SUV carries six passengers and five to six large bags, and an Executive Sprinter carries 12 to 14 passengers and 12 or more bags. A child seat costs nothing extra when it is requested at booking.

For seniors and visitors with limited mobility, ask about accessible vehicle options when you book. The CNE's site has a separate accessibility page, which I did not open, so confirm accessible entrances and seating there. A drop-off close to a gate is worth more on a hot afternoon than a faster route.

Hourly bookings for a CNE day

Because the minimum transfer applies to short runs, an hourly booking can be better value for a full day: hotel pickup, drop-off at the gate, a return pickup and dinner afterwards. Hourly rates below exclude tax, and gratuity is at your discretion:

Business traveller in a suit carrying a briefcase
Business traveller in a suit carrying a briefcase
VehicleCapacityHourly rateMinimumExample total
Executive Sedan3 passengers$135–$165 /hr2 hours$270–$330
Luxury SUV6 passengers$175–$210 /hr2 hours$350–$420
Executive Sprinter12–14 passengers$240–$295 /hr3 hours$720–$885
Mini-coach / party bus20–30 passengers$300–$420 /hr4 hours$1,200–$1,680

For an all-day plan, the more economical approach is usually two single transfers rather than hours of waiting at the fair: a drop-off in the morning and a pickup in the evening. See our fleet and rate card for options.

Hotels and the waterfront

The CNE lists the Westin Harbour Castle as its official hotel partner. Other visitors stay downtown or near the waterfront, which is a short ride from the grounds. If you are combining the fair with a city trip, our guides to the CN Tower, EdgeWalk and the waterfront and the luxury weekend in Toronto help plan the other days, and the Toronto limo page covers city runs.

What to carry and what to leave in the car

A long fair day is easier with less to carry. Bring sun protection, a refillable bottle, comfortable shoes and a light rain layer, and leave bulky purchases with your driver if you are on an hourly booking. The fair sells food and prizes all day, and a small cooler left in the vehicle is more useful than one dragged across the grounds. If the day runs into the evening, agree a pickup time that leaves room for the crowd to thin, and keep a charged phone for the final message to your driver.

Honest comparison: GO, streetcar, taxi, rideshare, parking and a private car

GO and the TTC are cheaper for most people, and we recommend them for solo visitors and couples. A private car wins with children and strollers, a Pearson arrival with luggage, a client visit or a group.

Other Exhibition Place events

Exhibition Place hosts other large events, including the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair in November, which has its own post on this site, and the Toronto Caribbean Carnival, whose grand parade is scheduled for July 31, 2027.
