A St. Patrick's Day Montréal limo service is not about driving into the parade. It is about the parts of a very large day that surround it: the airport arrival, the hotel, the cold, and the ride home when every pub within a kilometre of De Maisonneuve Boulevard is full and nobody wants to be the one looking for a taxi at nightfall. Montréal's parade is one of the city's great street events, with a long history and a crowd to match, and it is worth planning around rather than stumbling into.
The guide begins at the point of arrival, because that is where most of our trips begin. It sets out the facts we could verify, including a claim we could not, then describes the transfers, the alternatives and a sensible timetable for the day.
When is the Montréal St. Patrick's Day parade?
The most recent parade, the 201st, took place on Sunday, 22 March 2026. The 2027 date had not been confirmed when we checked, and 17 March 2027 is a Wednesday. The 2026 parade was held on a Sunday, so check the United Irish Societies of Montreal for the official date before you book.
The 2026 date comes from CTV Montréal's photo coverage of the parade, which identifies it as the 201st edition. Tourisme Montréal says the 200th anniversary was 2025. We did not find an official 2027 date. Treat any date you see on a third-party calendar as provisional until the organisers announce it. The CTV photo gallery of the 2026 parade confirms the 2026 date and edition.
How old is the parade, and what can we verify?
Tourisme Montréal describes the parade as the longest-running of its kind in Canada. According to its page of facts about the day, the parade ran uninterrupted from 1824 until 2019, was cancelled in 2020 and 2021 during the pandemic, and was also cancelled in 1918, though Montrealers paraded anyway. The same page says the first St. Patrick's Day celebration in Montréal was held in 1759 by Irish soldiers of the garrison.

You will sometimes see the parade called the oldest in North America. We looked for an official source for that claim and did not find one, and the tourism board's own wording is "longest-running of its kind in Canada", so that is the phrase we use. The organisers have changed over the years. The page lists the St. Patrick's Society of Montréal, Irish Catholic parishes, the Irish Protestant Benevolent Society, the Ancient Order of Hibernians, and, since 1928, the United Irish Societies of Montreal. See the tourism board's facts about the parade for the full list.
The route, the crowd and the day
In 2026 the parade marched east along De Maisonneuve Boulevard from Fort Street to Jeanne-Mance Street. It lasts about three hours and, according to Tourisme Montréal, draws between 250,000 and 700,000 spectators depending on the weather. A published guide gives a start at about noon.
On the day, you can expect hundreds of floats, marching bands, community groups and local celebrities, along with a grand marshal, a queen and a princess, and the Pipes and Drums of the Black Watch Royal Highland Regiment of Canada. Irish pubs and Irish-for-a-day bars sit near the route, and many are packed before the parade begins.
Routes change when roadworks do. Press coverage of earlier years describes the parade running along Sainte-Catherine Street for decades before it moved to De Maisonneuve Boulevard, so confirm the current route with the organisers when the 2027 announcement is made.
St. Patrick's Day Montréal limo service: what a car can and cannot do
Streets along the parade route close, so a car cannot deliver you to the kerb. What it can do is meet you where the journey begins and end it close to where it needs to. The most useful bookings are:

- An airport pickup at Montréal-Trudeau, with the driver tracking the flight and waiting at arrivals.
- A drop-off at a hotel or restaurant outside the closed streets, with a walk of a few blocks.
- An evening hourly booking that moves a group between pubs and home without anyone driving.
The online booker works out the exact fare for the pickup and drop-off addresses. Quoted fares leave out tax and tolls, and tipping is optional. The limo rates page shows the whole card, and the fleet page shows what each vehicle seats and carries.
From Montréal-Trudeau airport to downtown
Aéroports de Montréal describes the airport as about 20 km from downtown, and a typical drive is 25 to 35 minutes depending on traffic. That distance falls under the minimum, so the minimum fare applies.
| Vehicle | YUL to downtown Montréal (about 20 km, 25–35 min) |
|---|---|
| Executive Sedan (3 pax, 2 large + 2 carry-on) | $145–$175 |
| Luxury SUV (6 pax, 5–6 large bags) | $180–$220 |
| Executive Sprinter (12–14 pax, 12+ bags) | $295–$355 |
Flight tracking comes with every airport booking, and waiting is free for 60 minutes after an international landing and 30 minutes after a domestic one. Meeting you inside the arrivals hall with a name board is an optional $100–$150. The Montréal-Trudeau airport limo page describes the arrivals process in detail.
The 747 bus: the honest alternative
The cheapest way into the city is the STM's 747 bus. The STM states the fare as $11.25 per person, which gives a 24-hour pass for the bus, the metro, the exo train and the REM in Zone A. The airport stop is at door 28 in the international arrivals area, departures run every 10 to 20 minutes, and the route serves Berri-UQAM and Lionel-Groulx metro stations as well as hotels on René-Lévesque Boulevard. On the bus itself the fare is cash only, exact change, so buy a ticket at the airport machines if you do not carry coins. The STM publishes the details on its 747 page.
For a solo traveller with a backpack, the 747 is excellent value. For a family with strollers or a group arriving with suitcases on a snowy day, a car is easier. On parade weekend the streets near the route close, so ask the STM about detours before you plan a bus transfer around them.
From Central Station and the hotels
Many visitors arrive by train. Our Montréal Central Station page covers pickups there. The station is in the downtown core, so hotels in the area are close to the parade without a car. A booking is most useful the day before, when you arrive with luggage, and the day after, when you leave.
If you are extending the trip, the Montréal weekend guide plans a longer stay, and the Notre-Dame Basilica and Old Montréal guide covers the old city.
A parade-day plan, hour by hour
Early morning: arrive at the hotel, ideally the day before. Mid-morning: breakfast and a walk toward the route to see where crowds are gathering. Late morning: find a position along De Maisonneuve, ideally a short walk from your hotel, before the crowd thickens. Noon to three: the parade. Afternoon: a pub, a late lunch or a museum, because the crowd disperses slowly. Evening: dinner and a ride home.
Set the pickup for your return at a point outside the closures, and agree a time with the driver in advance. Streets reopen gradually and the area near the route can be gridlocked for an hour after the last float.
A safe ride home
St. Patrick's Day is, for many people, a day spent in pubs. A booked car with a driver removes the question of who is fit to drive. An hourly booking can cover a long evening.
| Vehicle | Seats | Hourly (minimum) | 4 hours |
|---|---|---|---|
| Executive Sedan | 3 pax | $135–$165 /hr (2 hr) | $540–$660 |
| Luxury SUV | 6 pax | $175–$210 /hr (2 hr) | $700–$840 |
| Executive Sprinter | 12–14 pax | $240–$295 /hr (3 hr) | $960–$1,180 |
| Mini-coach / party bus | 20–30 pax | $300–$420 /hr (4 hr) | $1,200–$1,680 |
All figures are before tax. For a group of friends or a company outing, the Sprinter or the mini-coach spreads the cost across more people. Agree in advance who is responsible for the booking, and keep the pickup address and times where everyone can find them.
Beyond the parade: Irish Montréal
The day has a quieter side. The tourism board's page describes the Black Rock memorial near the Victoria Bridge, which commemorates 6,000 Irish immigrants who died in the typhus epidemic of 1847, and calls it the first memorial to the Great Famine anywhere in the world. A visit is a thoughtful addition to the weekend, and the page also notes that the city's flag includes a green shamrock representing the Irish.

Other festivals fill the Montréal calendar later in the year, including the Montréal jazz festival in summer.
March weather and what to wear
Late winter in Montréal can be cold, wet or both. Dress in layers, wear waterproof boots, and bring gloves and a hat. A parade crowd means standing still for hours, which makes a mild-looking morning feel much colder by one o'clock. Pack a warm layer in your day bag and keep a spare pair of socks in the hotel room.
Roads can be icy or slushy, and a snowfall can slow the airport drive. Build 30 minutes of buffer into the transfer to the airport on departure day.
Families, strollers and accessibility
A parade crowd is hard on strollers and wheelchairs. Choose a viewing point near the edge of the route with a clear exit, and tell the booking desk about mobility needs so the driver can choose a drop-off near level access. Request a child seat when you book; it carries no charge. The Luxury SUV seats six and carries five to six large bags, which suits a family of five with a stroller.

Booking before the date is announced
Hotels and flights for parade weekend are often reserved before the organisers publish a final route. That is fine. Book your flights and hotel around the most likely Sunday, then make the car booking once the date is confirmed, using the same flight numbers. If your plans are fixed and the parade date later moves by a week, tell the booking team as soon as you know rather than waiting for the pickup day.
Keep two things in your notes: the name and address of the hotel, and a mobile number for the person in your party who will answer the phone when the driver calls. In a crowd of hundreds of thousands, mobile networks can slow down near the route, so agree a meeting point by street corner as well as by phone.
How the alternatives compare
| Option | Typical cost | Time | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| STM 747 bus, YUL to downtown | $11.25 | About 45–70 min to Berri-UQAM | Solo travellers, light bags |
| Taxi or rideshare | Metered or app fare | About 25–35 min | A single trip, no luggage |
| Executive Sedan, YUL to downtown (20 km) | $145–$175 | 25–35 min | Luggage, late arrivals |
| Luxury SUV, YUL to downtown (20 km) | $180–$220 | 25–35 min | Families, up to six |
| Executive Sprinter, YUL to downtown (20 km) | $295–$355 | 25–35 min | Groups of up to 14 |
If you are alone and your hotel is by a metro station, the bus is a good answer. If you are with others, the numbers shrink: a Sprinter at $295–$355 for 14 people works out to roughly $21 to $25 per head.
