What does a luxury weekend in Vancouver look like?

It means a hotel on the water in Coal Harbour or a design-led base in Yaletown, a Saturday through Gastown, the Vancouver Art Gallery and dinner, and a Sunday on the Stanley Park seawall. A chauffeur keeps the short hops between them effortless.

Vancouver is compact. Downtown sits on a peninsula between Burrard Inlet and False Creek, and the neighbourhoods that matter for a short stay are all within a few minutes of each other. According to Destination Vancouver, Gastown is a six-minute walk from Chinatown, thirteen from Robson Street and twenty from Yaletown. The challenge is not distance. It is rain, hills, one-way streets and the number of times you would otherwise hail a ride in a weekend.

If you are arriving by air, our Vancouver airport limo page covers the pickup. For standing city options, see the Vancouver limo hub.

Where to stay: Coal Harbour, Yaletown or Gastown

Coal Harbour. Destination Vancouver's Coal Harbour page calls it a community of sophisticated hotels and yacht-filled marinas, with views to the mountains, and says it leads onto the 7,572-step seawall to Stanley Park. Its companion guide names the Westin Bayshore and the Fairmont Pacific Rim, and notes the Pacific Rim's lobby lounge hosts live music seven days a week. Coal Harbour is also home to the Olympic cauldron at Jack Poole Plaza from the 2010 Winter Games.

Yaletown. The Yaletown guide describes a former warehouse and railyard district, now known for patios, with David Lam Park and seawall access. It lists Level Hotels & Furnished Suites among the stays.

Gastown. Heritage buildings, cobblestones and cocktail bars. It suits visitors who want history and nightlife at their door.

Whichever area you pick, give the booker the exact hotel name, because several downtown properties have separate lobby and valet entrances.

Friday: from YVR to the hotel

Airport to downtown is about 15 to 18 km by road depending on your hotel, with a typical drive of 25 to 35 minutes. Granville Island, a similar distance, is quoted at roughly 13 to 14 km and about 24 to 28 minutes by routing sites. Use those as planning figures, and let the booker price the exact address.

Pacific Central station to Gastownunder 5 km10–15 min$145–$175$180–$220$295–$355

All of these trips fall at the minimum fare, shown before tax with gratuity left to you. Flight tracking is included, with thirty minutes of free waiting on a domestic arrival and sixty on an international one. A name-board greeting inside the hall is an optional $100–$150. If you are arriving by sea or rail, see the Canada Place cruise terminal page and the Pacific Central station page.

Friday evening: dinner on the water

Destination Vancouver's Coal Harbour guide names several places for a first night: Cardero's for West Coast fare with a patio on the water, LIFT Bar Grill View for cocktails and bites, H Tasting Lounge at the Westin Bayshore for outdoor dining with views over Burrard Inlet, and Botanist, known for its cocktail lab. Which suits you depends on mood, so look at each venue's own page for the current menu and reservation rules.

If dinner is within walking distance, walk. The seawall at dusk is one of the great free pleasures of the city. If it rains, which is always possible, an hourly booking keeps the car close and your coat dry.

Saturday morning: Gastown and the steam clock

The Gastown neighbourhood page explains that the area began with a tavern founded in 1867 by John "Gassy Jack" Deighton and was designated a National Historic Site of Canada in 2009. The steam clock, at 305 Water Street, was built in 1977 by clockmaker Raymond Saunders, runs partly on steam, and releases a puff every hour on the hour. Try to be there when the hour turns.

Gastown is made for wandering: brick buildings, cobblestones, independent shops and some of the city's best-known cocktail bars. The tourism page does not name specific restaurants, so ask the hotel concierge for a current recommendation.

A morning here usually takes about two hours. From Coal Harbour it is a short drive, and the chauffeur can drop you at the clock and pick you up near the end of Water Street to avoid backtracking.

A harbour-front interlude: seawall, floatplanes and the Olympic cauldron

Between breakfast and the first appointment, there is a good hour to be spent on the water's edge. The Destination Vancouver guide to Coal Harbour describes a seawall walk running from Canada Place toward Stanley Park, with the inlet to the north and West Georgia Street to the south. It mentions harbour seals in the water and small shops along the seawall around the convention centre, and it lists Harbour Air for aerial floatplane journeys.

The Stanley Park seawall in Vancouver

The Olympic flame from the 2010 Winter Games sits at Jack Poole Plaza, which makes a simple photograph stop if you pass by car. A floatplane flight is a different kind of splurge, and you would book it directly with the operator. Tell the booker the departure time, and the chauffeur will aim to deliver you to the terminal with a margin for check-in.

None of this needs a long programme. Treat it as a gentle opening for the day when the weather is clear, then move on to Gastown, the gallery and lunch. If the morning is wet, skip the walk and see the water from a window table instead.

The Vancouver Art Gallery, at 750 Hornby Street, is listed by Destination Vancouver with hours of Wednesday to Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and until 8 p.m. on Fridays. It describes holdings of historical and contemporary art, special attention to Indigenous artists and the Asia Pacific region, and what it calls Canada's largest collection of Emily Carr's work. Check the gallery's own page before you go, in case the hours have changed.

Afterwards, Yaletown is a short hop. The district was a commercial warehouse and railyard area, revitalised for Expo 86, and Engine 374, which pulled the first transcontinental train into Vancouver, is on display there. It is a good place for a late lunch on a patio, or for a seawall stroll beside David Lam Park.

Our Granville Island guide covers the market if you would rather spend Saturday there.

Saturday evening

Pick a restaurant, give the booker the reservation time, and let the car arrive five minutes early. For celebrations, a stretch limousine seats eight to ten at $225–$300 an hour with a three-hour minimum. For two, an Executive Sedan for two hours is $270–$330 and an SUV is $350–$420.

If you prefer to end the evening with a drink, the Fairmont Pacific Rim lobby lounge is one of the places Destination Vancouver highlights for live music.

Sunday: Stanley Park and the seawall

Destination Vancouver's Stanley Park page describes a 10-kilometre seawall around Stanley Park that takes about three hours to walk, or just over an hour by bicycle rented on Denman Street. The totem poles at Brockton Point are reached via the seawall, Prospect Point has views of the North Shore Mountains and Lions Gate Bridge, and the aquarium is in the heart of the park.

A chauffeured Sunday works best as drive-and-sample. Ask the car to stop at Prospect Point, walk a short stretch of seawall near Brockton Point, and rejoin the car further along. This gives you the highlights in under three hours, without the exposure of a full circuit if the weather turns. The park has more than 27 km of paths, so you can match your energy to the day.

Our Stanley Park guide explains the access and the stops in order.

Sunday: a North Shore or Whistler option

If you have the whole day, two classic out-of-town options start from the same hotel. The Capilano Suspension Bridge guide covers a North Shore half-day, and the Whistler and Sea-to-Sky guide explains the longer drive north.

Destination Vancouver's things-to-do page lists Capilano Suspension Bridge Park and Grouse Mountain among the top attractions, and says skiing at Grouse is minutes from downtown. In winter, check road and weather conditions before you commit to a mountain day.

What a chauffeured weekend costs

This sample assumes an arrival transfer, a five-hour Saturday, a two-hour Saturday evening, a four-hour Sunday and a departure transfer.

SegmentExecutive SedanLuxury SUV
Friday: YVR to Coal Harbour, 15–18 km$145–$175$180–$220
Saturday day, 5 hours$675–$825$875–$1,050
Saturday evening, 2 hours$270–$330$350–$420
Sunday, 4 hours$540–$660$700–$840
Sunday: hotel to YVR$145–$175$180–$220
Weekend total$1,775–$2,165$2,285–$2,750

These figures exclude tax and gratuity. You can trim the budget by dropping the evening block and walking to dinner. For a party of six sharing an SUV, the total is roughly $380–$460 each. The booker gives the exact all-in fare for each leg.

Rain, seasons and what to pack

Vancouver weather is changeable, and rain gear matters more than anything else you pack. Destination Vancouver's pages describe distinct summer, autumn, winter and spring activities, from beaches to skiing. In wet months, the weekend shifts indoors: the gallery, long lunches, the Granville Island market and hotel lounges.

Wear shoes that cope with wet cobblestones in Gastown and wet seawall paths. A compact umbrella is useful in town, while a proper waterproof jacket is better for the park. The car carries the spares.

Honest alternatives: transit, seawall, bus and taxi

Vancouver is easy to get around without a car if your plans are close together. Yaletown has its own Canada Line station, and Destination Vancouver says Bus 19 runs into Stanley Park from downtown. The walk from Canada Place to the park entrance takes about 30 minutes, or ten by bike.

If you are on your own with a single bag and a hotel on the Canada Line, the train is hard to beat for value. If there are two or more of you, if it is raining, or if you want one driver for the whole weekend, the car is the better experience.

Planning notes for the weekend

Book your Saturday dinner before anything else, since the best tables go first. Arrival-day plans deserve a margin too: allow for the time it takes to clear the terminal, collect bags and reach the kerb, and treat any hotel check-in time as a guide rather than a promise.

On Sunday, put the long item first. The seawall and the park take the most time and are the most weather-dependent, so they go in the morning, with lunch and the airport run after. Child seats are free if you ask at booking, and a Sprinter handles a family with strollers and golf bags alike. Share your flight number so tracking can begin. Keep one flexible slot in the programme for weather, and always tell the booker if your hotel changes. For rates across the Canadian network, see the limo rates page and the fleet page.
