A Wickaninnish Inn limo solves a problem that does not exist at most hotels: the inn sits at the end of a single mountain highway on the west coast of Vancouver Island, and the inn itself says it does not offer airport pickups. This page explains how guests actually reach 500 Osprey Lane, which options cost what, and when a private chauffeur is worth the money. {cta:Get an instant fare|/book/}

LimousineCanada.ca operates separately from the inn, its owners and any membership group it belongs to. We refer to the inn by name only so you can locate the right address, and we draw hotel facts from the inn's own pages.

Wickaninnish Inn limo service: how guests really arrive

The inn describes itself as a boutique property on the Pacific Coast, between ancient rainforest and ocean, set above Chesterman Beach inside the Clayoquot Sound UNESCO Biosphere Region. Founded in 1996 by the McDiarmid family, it is a member of Relais & Châteaux. Nothing about that location is near a city, and every route to it involves a decision between time, money and luggage.

There are four ways in:

  1. Drive from Nanaimo. The inn says about three hours via Highway 4 through Cathedral Grove, Port Alberni and Sutton Pass.
  2. Drive from Victoria. The inn gives roughly four hours and 40 minutes from Swartz Bay.
  3. Fly to Tofino-Long Beach Airport (YAZ). Scheduled service runs from Vancouver; seasonal flights add Victoria and other Island points.
  4. Float plane or helicopter to the harbour, with a complimentary shuttle for float plane arrivals according to the inn.

A private car fits the first two directly and fills the gaps in the other two: the last leg from YAZ, a late arrival the shuttle does not serve, or a family with more gear than a small plane allows.

How long does it take to drive from Nanaimo to the Wickaninnish Inn?

The drive from Nanaimo to Tofino is about 190 km and takes roughly three hours on Highway 4, which the inn confirms. A private Executive Sedan costs $885 to $1,055 CAD, a Luxury SUV $1,110 to $1,340 and an Executive Sprinter $1,570 to $1,880, before tax and tolls.

The road crosses the island west of Parksville, climbs through Cathedral Grove and Sutton Pass, drops to Port Alberni and then follows Kennedy Lake to the coast. In clear weather it is a scenic and unhurried three hours. Weather can lengthen it, which is the reason we advise against tight same-day connections out of Tofino.

| Vehicle | Distance and time | Typical fare (CAD, before tax) | |---|---|---| | Executive Sedan (3 passengers) | about 190 km, 3 hr | $885-$1,055 | | Luxury SUV (6 passengers) | about 190 km, 3 hr | $1,110-$1,340 | | Executive Sprinter (12-14 passengers) | about 190 km, 3 hr | $1,570-$1,880 |

Nanaimo is where most Vancouver arrivals begin, since BC Ferries sails to Departure Bay from Horseshoe Bay in just under two hours, and to Duke Point from Tsawwassen in two hours, according to the inn's travel page. Vehicle reservations are required on the Horseshoe Bay to Departure Bay route from fall 2025, so the ferry sailing is part of your itinerary rather than something to decide on the day. The booker gives the exact all-in fare for your route; ferry crossings are priced outside these kilometre ranges.

Tofino-Long Beach Airport (YAZ) to the inn

Tofino-Long Beach Airport is on the Pacific Rim Highway, 11 km south of Tofino and 30 km north of Ucluelet, according to the regional district that runs it. The inn is on the same stretch of coast, roughly 15 km by road, so the transfer sits on the minimum fare.

| Vehicle | Distance and time | Typical fare (CAD, before tax) | |---|---|---| | Executive Sedan | about 15 km, 15-20 min | $145-$175 | | Luxury SUV | about 15 km, 15-20 min | $180-$220 | | Executive Sprinter | about 15 km, 15-20 min | $295-$355 |

The airport authority lists Harbour Air's winter wheeled flights between the Vancouver South Terminal and YAZ, using 19-passenger Twin Otters, plus scheduled flights from Pacific Coastal Airlines. The inn's page adds seasonal flights from Victoria, Kelowna and the Comox Valley. Check current timetables: wheeled service pauses in some seasons and the floatplane lands in Tofino Harbour instead.

Because YAZ is small, there is no public transit and no hire-car rank like a major airport. The regional district's page lists several local taxi firms and car rental companies, and the inn's concierge can help arrange transfers. A booked chauffeur is more than convenience on a late arrival: it gives you a vehicle sized for your luggage, with the exact time agreed in advance and flight tracking included.

Wickaninnish Inn car service from Victoria

The reverse of the trip many guests start from. Victoria to Tofino is roughly 310 to 317 km and about 4.5 hours of driving, per published guides, with the inn quoting four hours and 40 minutes from Swartz Bay.

| Vehicle | Distance and time | Typical fare (CAD, before tax) | |---|---|---| | Executive Sedan | about 315 km, 4.5-5 hr | $1,465-$1,750 | | Luxury SUV | about 315 km, 4.5-5 hr | $1,845-$2,220 | | Executive Sprinter | about 315 km, 4.5-5 hr | $2,600-$3,120 |

For travellers coming from the south, the main alternative is air. The inn lists Tofino Air with daily seasonal service between Victoria and Tofino from April to October, limited to three passengers and about 25 lb of luggage each. That is quick, but luggage-limited. A private car wins on weight, group size and flexibility: you can stop at Cathedral Grove, avoid a baggage fee, and head back on the day you choose.

If you start at the Victoria airport or at the Fairmont Empress, mention it in the booking and we build the day around the Highway 4 pace, not around a hotel check-in time.

Vancouver to the Wickaninnish Inn: ferry plus Highway 4

Guests who fly into Vancouver have three realistic choices. They can fly onward from the South Terminal to Tofino, take a seaplane from Vancouver Harbour or Richmond to Tofino Harbour, or cross by ferry and drive. The inn lists all three, along with a Hullo foot-passenger ferry from downtown Vancouver to Nanaimo that takes 75 minutes.

The driving version works like this: a chauffeur meets you at Vancouver airport or at your downtown hotel, takes you to Horseshoe Bay, crosses to Departure Bay in just under two hours of sailing, then continues on Highway 4. The island portion is the 190 km, three-hour leg priced above. Because ferry reservations are required for vehicles on this route, share your chosen sailing when you book and we check space with you instead of gambling on standby.

It is a long day, and nothing in it is rushed: the ferry is a rest, and the second half is scenery. For many couples it is the point of the trip.

Luggage, children and accessibility in a private vehicle

Vehicle choice matters more on a coast trip than in a city. An Executive Sedan takes three passengers with two large bags and two carry-ons. A Luxury SUV seats six with five or six large bags, which suits a family with several suitcases, rain gear and a stroller. The Executive Sprinter fits 12 to 14 passengers with 12 or more bags.

The inn's page lists pet-friendly stays and accessibility options; if anyone in your group uses a mobility aid or travels with a dog, tell us when you book. Child seats are free when requested at booking, which saves the awkward business of installing a seat from an airline.

Plane, ferry, shuttle or private car: an honest comparison

The cheaper option is sometimes the better one. The table below compares what the inn itself lists with a private transfer.

| Option | Cost | Time to the inn | Best for | |---|---|---|---| | Scheduled flight Vancouver to YAZ | set by the carrier, check current fares | under an hour of flying plus a short transfer | Light packers who want speed | | Seasonal Victoria to Tofino flight (April-October) | set by the carrier | short, three-passenger limit | Couples with small bags | | Local shuttle operators | per-person or per-seat fares, check with the operator | about 3 hr from Nanaimo | Solo travellers on a budget | | Rental car | rental rate plus fuel | 3 hr from Nanaimo | Guests who want to explore Highway 4 themselves | | Private sedan from Nanaimo | $885-$1,055 | about 3 hr | Anyone who prefers to arrive rested | | Private SUV from Nanaimo | $1,110-$1,340 | about 3 hr | Four to six guests or heavy luggage |

We cannot confirm that app-based rideshare is reliably available on Highway 4, so do not plan a trip around it. Read limo versus rideshare for the wider picture. If you are travelling alone with one bag, the flight or a shuttle is the cheaper choice and we will say so in plain terms.

Storm watching season and winter driving

The inn markets winter storm watching, and its page says the Canadian Tourism Commission designated the experience a Canadian Signature Experience in 2011. Stormy weather is most reliable from early November to late February, with early storms in late October and late ones in early March. The inn supplies rain gear in guest rooms and rubber boots for beach walks.

Surf on a beach near Tofino

That season matters for road travel too. The inn states that from October 1 to March 31, vehicles need winter tires or all-season tires with the M+S symbol. Highway 4 crosses Sutton Pass, a mountain summit between Port Alberni and the coast. Our chauffeurs check DriveBC and the tire requirement before every departure and will tell you plainly if a road closure changes the plan. If you hold a tight onward connection from Tofino, build in a spare night; we do not recommend a same-day connection from the coast in storm season.

| Season | What to expect on the drive | |---|---| | November to February | Peak storm watching; winter tires required; allow extra hours | | March to May | Changeable weather; check DriveBC before you leave | | June to September | Peak visitor season; book ferries early, since vehicle reservations are required on the Horseshoe Bay route | | October | Early storms possible; winter tire rule starts October 1 |

Dining, spa and what the inn is known for

The inn's own site lists The Pointe Restaurant, On the Rocks Bar and Howard's Wine Cellar, plus the casual Driftwood Café and a summer crab cookout. The Ancient Cedars Spa, the Henry Nolla Art Gallery and a carving shed are on site, and the inn accepts pets and lists accessible rooms. It is also known for its two buildings: the Pointe Building and the Beach Building, with room types ranging from Premier Rooms to a Chesterman Beach Loft Suite.

Most guests do not need a car while staying, since the property is designed as a place to remain on site. When they do, it is for beach drives, restaurants in Tofino or Ucluelet and the park, covered below.

Day trips from the inn by private car

Hourly bookings suit the coast because distances are short and the scenery is the point. The regional district places the airport 11 km south of Tofino and 30 km north of Ucluelet, so the highway links the two towns along Pacific Rim National Park Reserve's beaches.

  • Long Beach and the park reserve. A half-day with stops at trailheads and lookouts.
  • Ucluelet and the Wild Pacific Trail area. A two-to-four-hour loop with lunch.
  • Tofino town. Dinner reservations and return, or a morning at the harbour for a whale or bear-watching departure.
  • Cathedral Grove on the way out. A planned stop on your departure drive.

| Hourly block | Vehicle | Rate (CAD) | |---|---|---| | 3 hours | Executive Sedan | $405-$495 (from $135-$165/hr, 2 hr minimum) | | 4 hours | Luxury SUV | $700-$840 (from $175-$210/hr, 2 hr minimum) | | 4 hours | Executive Sprinter | $960-$1,180 (from $240-$295/hr, 3 hr minimum) |

Check weather and park conditions on the day. Our hourly chauffeur page explains how waiting time and stops are priced.

Weddings, retreats and elopements

The inn's weddings and retreats page lists weddings, corporate and family retreats, and elopements, with imagery of couples on Chesterman Beach. It states that property tours are by appointment through its special events team, and it does not publish capacities, so confirm those directly with the inn.

For guests, the logistics are about movement of groups across a remote coast. Typical set-ups include an Executive Sprinter for 12 to 14 guests from Nanaimo or YAZ ($240 to $295 an hour, three-hour minimum, or a distance fare), a stretch limousine for the couple, and a mini-coach for larger parties. Our wedding limo page walks through timelines, and the fleet page shows what each vehicle holds.

Booking, inclusions and cancellations

Use the online booker for the exact fare to the inn. Every airport pickup includes flight tracking. After a domestic landing you wait free for 30 minutes, after an international arrival for 60. Holding a name board in the arrivals hall costs an extra $100 to $150, and child seats cost nothing when you ask at booking. Tolls are extra and gratuity is yours to decide. Rates before tax appear on the rates page.

Cancellations are measured from the scheduled pickup time. With more than 72 hours' notice there is no charge; at 72 hours or less it is 10%; at 48 hours or less, 50%; and at 24 hours or less or a no-show, 100%. {cta:Get an instant fare|/book/}

Frequently asked questions

Does the Wickaninnish Inn provide airport pickups?

The inn's own page says it does not offer airport pickups, though its concierge can help arrange them. It lists a complimentary shuttle for float plane arrivals at Tofino Harbour. For other arrivals, a private chauffeur or local shuttle operator covers the gap.

How far is Tofino-Long Beach Airport from the Wickaninnish Inn?

The regional district places the airport 11 km south of Tofino on the Pacific Rim Highway. The inn is a short drive from it, so a transfer is under 15 km and falls at the minimum fare: $145 to $175 for a sedan, $180 to $220 for an SUV.

How much is a limo from Nanaimo to Tofino?

About 190 km and three hours. A sedan costs $885 to $1,055, an SUV $1,110 to $1,340 and a Sprinter $1,570 to $1,880, before tax. Ferries are priced separately, so look at the booker for your route.

What is the cheapest way to get to the Wickaninnish Inn?

For one traveller with little luggage, a scheduled flight or local shuttle is cheaper than a private car. A private sedan makes sense for couples with bags, families and anyone who wants to arrive at a set time.

Do I need winter tires to drive to Tofino?

The inn states that from October 1 to March 31, vehicles need winter tires or all-season tires with the M+S symbol. Check DriveBC for current conditions before you leave. Our chauffeurs do this on every departure.

When is storm watching season at the Wickaninnish Inn?

The inn says stormy weather is most reliable from early November to late February, with the occasional storm in late October or early March. It supplies rain gear and boots, and offers storm watching packages.

Is LimousineCanada.ca affiliated with the Wickaninnish Inn?

No. We are a separate business and the inn has not sponsored or approved this page. We provide transfers to its address for guests who book with us.

Can you drive from Victoria to Tofino in one day?

Yes. It is about 315 km and 4.5 to 5 hours, and a sedan costs $1,465 to $1,750. Allow for weather, a stop at Cathedral Grove and any ferry or traffic delay.

Can I book a car for a Long Beach or Ucluelet outing?

Yes, by the hour. A three-hour sedan block costs about $405 to $495 and a four-hour SUV block $700 to $840. The car waits at each stop.
