The first weekend of August is the heaviest road weekend of the Canadian summer, and a civic holiday weekend limo service is the calm answer to it. Cottage country empties out of Toronto on Friday afternoon, Vancouver heads for Whistler and the islands, and Calgary points at the mountains. The highways fill, the airports fill, and everyone arrives tired.
This guide explains what the holiday is called where, which provinces actually give a paid day off, and how a booked car with a driver changes the Friday-to-Monday arithmetic. LimousineCanada.ca is built around airports and stations, so the plan begins at the arrival point and works out to the lake, the parade or the hotel.
When is the August civic holiday in 2027, and what is it called?
The civic holiday is the first Monday in August, which is 2 August 2027. It is BC Day in British Columbia and Heritage Day in Alberta. Manitoba marks Terry Fox Day, Nova Scotia has Natal Day, and Toronto calls it Simcoe Day. Quebec and Newfoundland and Labrador have no province-wide holiday that Monday.
The name changes, and so does the legal status. The official lists we checked say this:
| Province | Name that Monday | Status on the official page |
|---|---|---|
| British Columbia | B.C. Day | Statutory holiday, Monday 2 August 2027 |
| Alberta | Heritage Day | Optional general holiday; employers decide |
| Manitoba | Terry Fox Day | Not a general holiday |
| Ontario | Civic Holiday (Simcoe Day in Toronto) | Not a public holiday under the Employment Standards Act |
| Nova Scotia | Natal Day / civic holiday | Not a paid general holiday |
| Saskatchewan, New Brunswick | Saskatchewan Day, New Brunswick Day | Commonly observed; confirm with the provincial labour office |
Each row comes from a provincial government list: British Columbia's statutory holidays, Alberta's general holidays and Ontario's public holidays. What follows from that is simple. In Ontario the Monday is a day off for many people because employers choose it, not because the law demands it, so workplaces differ, and your hotel, your lake house and your driver's schedule may not match your neighbour's.
Civic holiday weekend limo service: what to book first
Pin down the fixed points and build the car around them: the flight, the cottage check-in time, the dinner reservation, the parade. Then work out how many people and how many bags, because the vehicle choice follows from that.

- Book the outbound and the return together. Monday evening is when cars disappear.
- Name the exact pickup and drop-off addresses, including the cottage road, not just the town.
- Add notes for coolers, paddles and anything that is not a suitcase.
- If your weekend has a parade or festival day, price that day by the hour.
The online booker works out the all-in fare for your exact addresses. Treat every figure as pre-tax, with highway tolls (the 407 ETR, for example) added when used and a tip left to your judgement. The rates page lays out the full card, and the fleet page shows how many each vehicle carries.
Pearson to Muskoka: the cottage run
Pearson to Huntsville is about 214 km and close to three hours by road, according to one published routing estimate. Bracebridge is roughly 34 km closer than Huntsville, which puts it near 180 km from the airport. Discover Muskoka describes the region as running from Algonquin Park in the east to the Georgian Bay shore in the west, so the real distance depends on which lake you are heading for.
| Vehicle | Pearson to Bracebridge (about 180 km, 2 h 30 min or more) | Pearson to Huntsville (about 215 km, about 3 h) |
|---|---|---|
| Executive Sedan | $835–$1,000 | $1,000–$1,195 |
| Luxury SUV | $1,055–$1,270 | $1,260–$1,515 |
| Executive Sprinter | $1,485–$1,780 | $1,775–$2,130 |
Friday afternoon is the worst moment to be on Highway 400 and Highway 11, and there is no polite way to say it. A Friday-evening flight into Pearson followed by a drive north after the rush is often faster door to door than leaving at four o'clock. The Muskoka cottage country guide covers resorts and towns in more detail. For a different long weekend with the same drive, see the Victoria Day weekend guide.
Cottage roads are the other wrinkle. Many are gravel, narrow and unmarked at night. Send the driver the exact address, the gate or lane instructions, and a contact number for the owner who will hand over the keys.
Toronto Caribbean Carnival and the civic holiday weekend
The Toronto Caribbean Carnival lists its 2027 Grand Parade for 31 July, the Saturday of the civic holiday weekend. The carnival site also shows the King and Queen Showcase on 29 July and a Junior Carnival Parade on 17 July. The parade route and closures are not published on the page we reviewed, so check the Toronto Caribbean Carnival site before you plan a drop-off, and see our Toronto Caribbean Carnival guide for the longer story.

If you are flying in for the weekend, Pearson is about 27 km from downtown Toronto, and the sedan minimum applies: $145–$175 for a trip of about 30 minutes in normal traffic, $180–$220 in a Luxury SUV. Large events close roads, so ask your driver to meet you at the last open street rather than at a hotel door inside the closure. The Toronto limo service page lists the pickup options in the city.
Vancouver airport to Whistler on B.C. Day weekend
British Columbia is the one province where the August Monday is a statutory holiday, so B.C. Day weekend is a true long weekend for most workers, and the Sea to Sky Highway gets busy accordingly. Whistler is about 135 km from Vancouver International Airport, a drive that tourism sources put at two to two and a half hours.
| Vehicle | YVR to Whistler (about 135 km, 2 h to 2 h 30 min) |
|---|---|
| Executive Sedan | $630–$750 |
| Luxury SUV | $790–$950 |
| Executive Sprinter | $1,115–$1,335 |
Add buffer time to the return on Monday. Summer traffic on Highway 99 is slower than the posted limits suggest, and the Sprinter fits a group of up to 14 passengers, which is cheaper per head than three taxis. See the Vancouver airport limo service for how arrivals work, and the Whistler and Sea-to-Sky guide for stops along the way.
Calgary airport to Banff on Heritage Day weekend
Alberta's Heritage Day is optional, so each employer decides whether to give it. Banff is about 130 km from Calgary International Airport, roughly 90 minutes by road, and a National Park Pass is required for everyone visiting Banff or Lake Louise. Buying it online before you reach the gate saves time. Expect $605–$720 in a sedan, $760–$915 in an SUV and $1,075–$1,285 in a Sprinter. See the Calgary airport limo page for arrival details.

A summer city day by the hour
Not every long weekend is a road trip. If you are hosting out-of-town relatives, the hourly rate lets you string together a harbourfront lunch, a market, and an evening show without worrying about parking in the heat.
| Vehicle | Seats | Hourly (minimum) | Example: 5 hours |
|---|---|---|---|
| Executive Sedan | 3 pax | $135–$165 /hr (2 hr) | $675–$825 |
| Luxury SUV | 6 pax | $175–$210 /hr (2 hr) | $875–$1,050 |
| Executive Sprinter | 12–14 pax | $240–$295 /hr (3 hr) | $1,200–$1,475 |
| Mini-coach / party bus | 20–30 pax | $300–$420 /hr (4 hr) | $1,500–$2,100 |
A mini-coach has a four-hour minimum and suits a family reunion or a wedding party. For a handful of adults a sedan or SUV is fine.
Airport days on a peak summer weekend
Pearson, YVR and YYC all run at their summer peak on this weekend. Flight tracking is included on every airport booking, and the driver adjusts to the actual landing time. The driver's free wait is an hour for an international arrival and thirty minutes for a domestic one. Add a name-board greeting inside the arrivals hall for $100–$150 if you arrive with children or a lot of bags.

Check the airport limo page for the airport nearest you. If you are connecting between a flight and a cottage road, tell us about the connection when you book so the driver knows the final destination before the pickup.
Luggage, coolers and cottage gear
The rate card seats three passengers in an Executive Sedan with two large bags and two carry-ons, six in a Luxury SUV with five to six large bags, and twelve to fourteen in an Executive Sprinter with room for more than a dozen bags. Cottage gear does not behave like suitcases. Coolers, groceries, a kayak paddle and a bag of firewood take real space. Describe them in the booking notes and book the larger vehicle when in doubt.
Children's seats are available at no charge when requested at the time of booking.
How the alternatives compare
| Option | Typical cost | Time | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| UP Express, Pearson to Union Station | $9.25 with PRESTO, $12.35 without | 28 min | Downtown Toronto, light bags |
| Rental car | Set by the rental company, plus fuel | Pearson to Bracebridge about 2 h 30 min | Groups who want their own car at the lake |
| Airport shuttle to Banff | Per-seat fare set by the operator | About 90 min plus stops | Solo travellers |
| Executive Sedan, Pearson to downtown Toronto (27 km) | $145–$175 | About 30 min | Heavy luggage, late arrivals |
| Executive Sprinter, YVR to Whistler (135 km) | $1,115–$1,335 | 2 h to 2 h 30 min | Groups of up to 14 |
A rental car is cheaper for a family that wants to explore for a week and does not mind driving at night. A chauffeured car is better for a one-night trip, for people who will be drinking at dinner, or for arrivals so late that you do not want to drive an unfamiliar road.
Heat, traffic and timing
August road trips fail for dull reasons: a full highway at four o'clock, a hot car with children, a missed dinner booking. Build slack into the day. Leave earlier or later than the crowd, plan a food stop in a town with a real kitchen, and treat the posted drive time as the best case rather than the average. A driver who knows the route can often judge when the worst of the traffic has cleared.
A sample civic holiday weekend
Friday: land at Pearson in the evening, meet the driver, and head north after the traffic clears. Saturday: the lake, with the car parked and the family on foot or on the water. Sunday: a slow morning and a late lunch in town. Monday: leave in the early afternoon, before the return crush builds.
For a Toronto weekend instead of a cottage weekend, replace the Friday drive with a hotel arrival and spend Saturday at the carnival.
