A Victoria Day long weekend limo service is built for a particular kind of trip: a long drive to a cottage or a wine valley, with luggage, groceries and a family, in the traffic of the first big weekend of the warm season. LimousineCanada.ca books chauffeur cars from Toronto Pearson to Muskoka, from Kelowna International Airport to the Okanagan, and across the cities where the long weekend begins. This guide sets out the dates, the distances and the fares.
When is the Victoria Day long weekend?
Victoria Day falls on the Monday before May 25. It was Monday, May 18 in 2026. It is Monday, May 24 in 2027 and Monday, May 22 in 2028, so the long weekend runs from the Saturday before. Many travellers leave on the Friday evening or the Thursday night.
The federal government's Victoria Day page states the rule: the Monday preceding May 25, set by a 1952 amendment and referenced in the Holidays Act. The same page traces the history. The Legislature of the Province of Canada made May 24 a holiday in 1845, and after Queen Victoria died in 1901, Parliament made May 24 a legal holiday called Victoria Day. A May 2023 proclamation fixed Victoria Day as the date for celebrating the Sovereign's birthday, for all future monarchs.
Statutory status is set province by province. Alberta, British Columbia and Ontario all list Victoria Day on their official pages, and Alberta's page gives May 18 for 2026, a date that British Columbia's list confirms. If you live in another province or territory, check the provincial labour standards office rather than assuming a day off. Read the Government of Canada's Victoria Day page for the full history.
Why this weekend is a cottage and wine-country weekend
The long weekend falls at the start of the warm season in much of the country, and the habits are consistent. Cottage owners open for the summer, wineries and lakeside towns ramp up for visitors, and city dwellers use the extra day to leave town. Those habits put heavy traffic on the main routes out of the big cities.

Tourism Kelowna describes May as a month when temperatures rise and sunny days multiply, and it presents the lake season as running through July and August. Discover Muskoka divides the district into Gravenhurst, Bracebridge, Huntsville, the Muskoka Lakes, Lake of Bays and Georgian Bay. Both areas have their own pages on this site: see the guides to Muskoka cottage country and the Okanagan wine country tour.
Pearson to Muskoka: distances and fares
The Muskoka towns are a long drive from Toronto Pearson, which is why many families prefer a chauffeur for the first trip of the season. Fares come from the published rate card, before tax; tolls such as the 407 ETR and gratuity are extra.
| Trip | Distance | Typical drive time | Executive Sedan (3 pax) | Luxury SUV (6 pax) | Executive Sprinter (12–14 pax) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Toronto Pearson to Gravenhurst | about 167 km | 2 hr 15 min–3 hr 15 min | $775–$925 | $975–$1,175 | $1,380–$1,655 |
| Toronto Pearson to Bracebridge | about 183 km | 2 hr 30 min–3 hr 30 min | $850–$1,015 | $1,070–$1,290 | $1,510–$1,810 |
| Toronto Pearson to Port Carling | about 209 km | 2 hr 50 min–3 hr 50 min | $970–$1,160 | $1,225–$1,475 | $1,725–$2,070 |
| Toronto Pearson to Huntsville | about 217 km | 3 hr–4 hr | $1,010–$1,205 | $1,270–$1,530 | $1,790–$2,150 |
Drive times allow for the long-weekend traffic that builds on Friday afternoon. The online booker gives the exact fare for your cottage address before you pay, and the fare scales with the distance. A family of six with luggage, a cooler and a dog crate fits best in a Luxury SUV, which seats six with five or six large bags. For a larger group, an Executive Sprinter seats 12 to 14 with 12 or more bags.
Start from the Pearson airport page for arrivals. If you travel by private aircraft, the Pearson FBO page explains the pickup.
Kelowna airport to the Okanagan: distances and fares
The Okanagan runs are shorter, and the wine and lake towns sit within an hour or two of the airport. Kelowna International Airport is about 15 km from downtown Kelowna, 39 km from Vernon and 93 km from Naramata, where many wineries cluster along the bench above Okanagan Lake.

| Trip | Distance | Typical drive time | Executive Sedan (3 pax) | Luxury SUV (6 pax) | Executive Sprinter (12–14 pax) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Kelowna airport (YLW) to downtown Kelowna | about 15 km | 20–30 minutes | $145–$175 | $180–$220 | $295–$355 |
| Kelowna airport (YLW) to Vernon | about 39 km | 35–50 minutes | $180–$215 | $230–$275 | $320–$385 |
| Kelowna airport (YLW) to Naramata | about 93 km | 1 hr 40 min–2 hr 15 min | $430–$515 | $545–$655 | $765–$920 |
Use the Kelowna airport page for pickup details, and read the Kelowna weekend guide for the town itself. For winery days, an hourly booking is usually better than point-to-point fares: a Luxury SUV is $175–$210 per hour with a two-hour minimum, and a stretch limousine is $225–$300 per hour with a three-hour minimum.
Fire rules and cottage opening
Cottage openings often involve burning brush or lighting a campfire, and spring is a time when fire rules apply. Ontario's government states that the legislated fire season runs from April 1 to October 31. Fires may be lit no sooner than two hours before sunset and must be out no later than two hours after sunrise. You must keep tools and water on site, and you can be fined and held responsible for the cost of putting out any fire you light.
Restricted fire zones and municipal bans can add further limits, and the province's interactive map shows current fire danger and active restrictions. Read Ontario's forest fire page and your municipality's rules before you light anything, and check Ontario Parks' alerts if you are camping in a provincial park.
A chauffeur does not carry out cottage chores, but the car can carry the supplies: bags of soil, lawn chairs, a barbecue and the groceries. Tell the booker about oversized items so the right vehicle is sent.
A sample Victoria Day itinerary: Toronto to Muskoka
Here is a plan for a family opening the cottage:

- Thursday evening. Arrive at Pearson, or be collected from home. Leave before the Friday rush, if work allows.
- Friday. If you travel on Friday, plan the departure for before midday or after the evening peak. The ride to Gravenhurst takes roughly two to three hours.
- Saturday. Settle in. Open the water, check the dock and unpack. The car does not need to wait.
- Sunday. Keep it local. A short drive to a town for lunch and supplies.
- Monday. Return after the afternoon peak, or on Tuesday morning if your holiday allows.
A one-way transfer in each direction is usually better value than keeping a car on standby all weekend. Book the outbound and the return as two trips, and compare the totals in the booker.
Honest comparison: how to get to the cottage
| Option | Cost | Time | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Drive your own car | Fuel, tolls and parking | Fastest if you know the route | Families who need their car at the cottage |
| Rental car | Daily rate plus fuel | Same as driving | Visitors who need a car for the week |
| Intercity bus | Lowest | Longest; depends on schedule | Solo travellers without much luggage |
| Taxi or rideshare | Metered or app-quoted; long distances are costly | Same as the drive | Short hops at either end |
| Chauffeur car | Fixed ranges from the tables above | Door to door | Airport arrivals, families with luggage, groups, older relatives |
If you own a car and want it at the cottage, driving yourself is the better choice. A chauffeur starts to win when you fly in, travel with a big group, or prefer not to drive after a long week. For one-way arrivals at the start of the season, many families book a car in and drive themselves out later.
Okanagan wine days
The Okanagan side of the weekend suits a day of tastings. A designated driver is a poor deal for the person who has to stay sober, and a chauffeur removes the problem. Tourism Kelowna's site promotes winery tours, and our Okanagan wine country guide explains the regions, from Kelowna to Naramata, Oliver and Osoyoos.

Winery opening dates and tasting rules vary, and not all wineries are open on a holiday Monday. Call ahead and book appointments where they are required. Ask the driver to wait between stops, and set an end time that gets everyone back to the hotel before dinner.
Families, dogs and accessibility
Request a child seat at booking and it is supplied without charge, along with each child's age and weight. For pets, tell us the number and size of animals so we can confirm the arrangement, since policies on animals in vehicles vary. Service animals are always welcome.
If anyone in the group has limited mobility, tell us at booking. We will plan a stop with the closest practical entrance. Cottage roads can be narrow or unpaved, so give the exact address and any access notes.
Weather and what to pack
May weather in Canada is variable. Ontario and the interior of British Columbia can be warm one day and cool the next, and lakeside evenings are chilly. Pack layers, rain gear and warm socks. Insects can be a nuisance by the water in late spring, so bring repellent.
Pack the trunk sensibly: heavy items low and in the middle, and fragile items in the seat well. The sedan fits three people and four pieces of luggage.
Luggage, groceries and the trunk plan
A cottage weekend means more cargo than a hotel stay: bedding, groceries, a cooler, fishing rods, bikes and sometimes a canoe paddle or two. The seat counts are fixed, so plan the load before you book. An Executive Sedan seats three with two large bags and two carry-ons. A Luxury SUV seats six with five or six large bags. An Executive Sprinter seats 12 to 14 with 12 or more bags.
Bikes, kayaks and canoes are a different matter, because they may not fit inside a passenger vehicle. If your plan involves large sports equipment, ask the booker before the trip, and consider sending it ahead by another route. Pack perishable groceries last, in a cooler, and put them in the shaded part of the trunk.
Booking checklist for a long weekend
A few details make the booking smooth:
- Address. Give the exact cottage address or the nearest civic number. Cottage roads can be unmarked, and a GPS pin helps.
- Access. Mention gates, shared lanes, steep drives and seasonal roads. Early in the season, private roads can be soft or washed out.
- Passengers and bags. Count each person and each large bag, so the right vehicle is sent.
- Flight number. Add it for airport pickups, so the driver tracks the landing. The included wait is an hour after an international landing and half an hour after a domestic one.
- Return time. Fix it if you can. If not, tell us the day and a window, and confirm the pickup the evening before.
- Stops. List any grocery or liquor-store stops, since the hourly or distance charge depends on them.
A name-board greeting inside the arrivals hall can be added for $100–$150, which helps when relatives arrive separately from you.
If the plan changes. Plans change on long weekends: a late flight, an early return, a rainy forecast. Tell the booker as soon as you know. Our cancellation terms are measured from the scheduled pickup time, and they are set out in the booking. A change made well ahead of the pickup is simpler than one made at the last moment.
Combining Victoria Day with other long weekends
Victoria Day is the first of the summer holidays. The next is Canada Day, covered in our Canada Day guide, and the season closes with the Thanksgiving trip described in our Thanksgiving weekend guide. Our events page lists the seasonal guides.
Plan the whole summer's trips together. A cottage family may book a car for every long weekend, and a repeat booking makes it easier to keep the same pickup details.
Groups and company retreats
Staff retreats and family reunions often begin on this weekend. A mini-coach or party bus holds 20 to 30 people at $300–$420 per hour, with a four-hour minimum. An Executive Sprinter seats 12 to 14 and costs $240–$295 per hour with a three-hour minimum for hourly work. See the fleet page and the rate card for the details.
For long-distance group trips, the per-kilometre fare is usually better than the hourly rate, because the driver is not waiting. For a day of winery stops, the hourly rate is better.
