A Family Day weekend limo service solves the problem that every long weekend in February creates: everybody wants the same highway at the same hour. Ski resorts fill, airport curbs back up, and a family of five ends up standing on a cold platform arguing about who has the tickets. A booked car with a driver who has already looked at the traffic is the quiet alternative, and this guide explains where it makes sense, where it does not, and what it costs.
LimousineCanada.ca is built around transport hubs, so the plan below starts at the arrival point (the airport, the train station) and works outward to the slopes, the skating rink or the dinner table.
When is Family Day, and which provinces get the long weekend?
Family Day is the third Monday in February, which is 15 February 2027. Ontario, British Columbia and Alberta list it as a public or general holiday. Manitoba calls it Louis Riel Day and Nova Scotia calls it Heritage Day. Quebec has no February holiday.
The third-Monday rule is the same everywhere, but the name and the legal status change at the provincial border. The provincial pages we checked say this:
| Province | Name of the day | What the official page says |
|---|---|---|
| Ontario | Family Day | One of Ontario's nine public holidays |
| British Columbia | Family Day | Monday, 15 February 2027 on the statutory holiday list |
| Alberta | Alberta Family Day | General holiday, third Monday in February |
| Manitoba | Louis Riel Day | One of nine general holidays |
| Nova Scotia | Heritage Day | Paid general holiday and a retail closing day |
| Saskatchewan, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island | Family Day, Family Day, Islander Day | Observed on the same Monday; confirm with the provincial labour office |
You can read the lists yourself on the Ontario public holidays page and the Alberta general holidays page. Ontario schools take the day too: the province's 2026-27 school calendar lists Family Day on 15 February 2027, with the March break a month later. If you are planning the longer school week after that, the March Break travel guide covers airport timing.
Family Day weekend limo service: what to book first
Book the legs that cannot move. A flight arrival, a ski-resort check-in and a dinner reservation are all fixed points, and a car should be wrapped around them rather than the other way round. Everything else flexes.

On a holiday weekend the sequence that works is:
- Fix the arrival or departure time of the flight or train.
- Choose the vehicle by the number of people and bags, not by habit.
- Add a return leg now. Monday afternoon is the hardest time to find a car on the spot.
- Add an hourly block if the weekend includes a city day with several stops.
The online booker shows an all-in fare for the exact pickup and drop-off address, so the ranges in this guide are for planning and the booker is for the final number. Fares are quoted before tax, and tolls such as the 407 ETR are extra when the route uses them. Gratuity is your call.
Pearson to Blue Mountain: the ski-resort run from Toronto
Blue Mountain Village sits at 156 Jozo Weider Boulevard in The Blue Mountains, off Highway 26, about 11 km west of Collingwood. The resort's own planning page gives roughly 1 hour 45 minutes from Pearson in normal conditions, and a typical guide figure for the road distance is 160 km, nearly all of it on Highway 400 before the turn west onto Highway 26.
| Vehicle | Pearson to Blue Mountain (about 160 km, 1 h 45 min to 2 h+) |
|---|---|
| Executive Sedan (3 pax) | $745–$890 |
| Luxury SUV (6 pax, 5–6 large bags) | $935–$1,130 |
| Executive Sprinter (12–14 pax) | $1,320–$1,585 |
Allow more than two hours on Friday afternoon. The Friday of a long weekend is the classic bottleneck on Highway 400 north of the city, and leaving Pearson at the wrong moment can add half an hour without anything going wrong. Planning the pickup for the arrival of an evening flight, then driving north after the worst of the crush, often beats fighting it at four o'clock.
If your group is not coming through the airport, the resort lists alternatives: a direct Flixbus service from Union Station that runs Thursday to Monday, and an activity shuttle from York Mills TTC station. Those are cheaper than a private car, and they are the sensible choice for two adults with one bag each. A chauffeured SUV earns its fare once there are children, ski bags and a late arrival involved.
Calgary airport limo to Banff and Lake Louise
Calgary International Airport is about 130 km (87 miles) from Banff National Park, roughly a 90-minute drive, according to Banff & Lake Louise Tourism. The route heads for the Trans-Canada Highway (Highway 1) and climbs into the mountains once you clear the city.

| Vehicle | Calgary airport to Banff (about 130 km, about 90 min) |
|---|---|
| Executive Sedan | $605–$720 |
| Luxury SUV | $760–$915 |
| Executive Sprinter | $1,075–$1,285 |
Everyone entering Banff or Lake Louise needs a National Park Pass, and the tourism board advises buying it online before you arrive to avoid delays at the entrance. Add that to your checklist the night before. The Calgary airport limo page explains the arrivals process, and the longer story of the park itself is in our Banff, Lake Louise and Moraine Lake guide.
Scheduled airport shuttles also run to Banff and Lake Louise, timed to flight arrivals. They are good value for solo travellers. They are less useful for a family that wants to stop for lunch, change a child, or arrive at a hotel door rather than a shuttle bay.
Vancouver airport to Whistler on a winter weekend
Whistler is about 135 km from Vancouver International Airport, and tourism sources describe the drive as two to two and a half hours along Highway 99, the Sea to Sky Highway. The mountain sections are where snow, rain or a single stalled vehicle change the arithmetic.
| Vehicle | YVR to Whistler (about 135 km, 2 h to 2 h 30 min) |
|---|---|
| Executive Sedan | $630–$750 |
| Luxury SUV | $790–$950 |
| Executive Sprinter | $1,115–$1,335 |
Tell the booking desk about ski bags and boot bags up front, because boards and skis take space like a large suitcase each. A Luxury SUV seats six but carries five to six large bags, so a family of five with ski gear usually needs the Sprinter. Our Vancouver airport limo service page shows how arrivals work at YVR, and the Whistler village and Sea-to-Sky guide has the stop-by-stop detail.
Ottawa on Family Day: Rideau Canal Skateway and Winterlude
The Rideau Canal Skateway is 7.8 km long and, when the ice is open, free and accessible around the clock. The National Capital Commission says the season usually runs from January to early March, but it depends entirely on the weather, so check the NCC ice conditions page the morning you go.

Winterlude has traditionally spanned the Family Day weekend. Ottawa Tourism lists 29 January to 15 February 2027 for the next edition, which should be treated as provisional until the festival confirms its dates. The Winterlude guide covers the sites in detail.
From Ottawa airport to the downtown core is roughly 15 km, about 20 minutes in light traffic, and the sedan minimum applies: $145–$175. A Luxury SUV is $180–$220. Our Ottawa airport limo page covers the terminal logistics. The NCC details are on its Rideau Canal Skateway page.
A city day by the hour: indoor Family Day outings
Not every family wants snow. In a big city the Monday often becomes a chain of short hops: a museum in the morning, a late lunch, a film or an indoor play centre, then a quiet dinner. The hourly rate is built for that.
| Vehicle | Seats / bags | Hourly (minimum) | Example: 4 hours |
|---|---|---|---|
| Executive Sedan | 3 pax | $135–$165 /hr (2 hr) | $540–$660 |
| Luxury SUV | 6 pax | $175–$210 /hr (2 hr) | $700–$840 |
| Executive Sprinter | 12–14 pax | $240–$295 /hr (3 hr) | $960–$1,180 |
With cousins and grandparents in the mix the Sprinter is the practical choice: one vehicle, one drop-off, no convoy. The driver waits with the car while the group is inside, which matters on a freezing Monday when parking near a popular attraction is full by ten o'clock.
Children, car seats and bags
Child seats are free if you request them at booking, so put the ages and weights in the notes rather than hoping for the right seat at the curb. Mention strollers and ski bags in the same note. Bags are the usual surprise: a Luxury SUV holds five to six large bags, and a Sedan holds two large and two carry-on, which is less than most people expect when winter coats and boots are on the list.

For airport arrivals, flight tracking is included, and the car waits 60 minutes after landing on international arrivals and 30 minutes on domestic ones, at no extra charge. A name-board meet-and-greet inside the arrivals hall is an add-on of $100–$150 and is worth it when you arrive with small children and several bags.
Honest alternatives: when a train, bus or shuttle is the better answer
A private car is not always the right tool. Here is how the common options compare for a Family Day weekend.
| Option | Typical cost | Time | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| UP Express, Pearson to Union | $9.25 with PRESTO, $12.35 otherwise | 28 min | Solo travellers or couples going downtown |
| Flixbus Union to Blue Mountain | Operator's fare; Thursday to Monday only | Longer than driving | Two adults, light luggage, no deadline |
| Airport shuttle to Banff | Per-seat fare set by the operator | About 90 min plus stops | Solo travellers who can share |
| Private Executive Sedan, Pearson to downtown | $145–$175 | About 30 min | Late arrivals, heavy bags |
| Private Luxury SUV, Pearson to Blue Mountain | $935–$1,130 | About 1 h 45 min | Families with ski gear |
The UP Express fares are from the UP Express service and the Pearson information we checked. If two adults are travelling light to a downtown hotel, the train is quicker than most cars at rush hour and costs a fraction. If there are four of you with children, the arithmetic changes. Compare the full cost, not the per-person ticket price.
Weather and what to wear
February weather varies enormously across the country. The only safe rule is layers and a spare set of gloves for children. Boots should be in the cabin, not the trunk, if you are stopping at a trailhead or a rink on the way. If a storm warning is in effect, read it before you leave and move the pickup earlier or later instead of driving through the worst of it.
Do not plan tight connections around mountain highways. A blocked road is rare, but a slow one is routine, and a Highway 99 or Highway 1 trip that normally takes two hours can take three. A buffer of 60 to 90 minutes before a dinner reservation or a flight is cheaper than the argument you will have without one.
A sample three-day Family Day plan
Friday evening: land at Pearson, meet the driver, and head north to Blue Mountain after the first wave of traffic clears. Saturday: lifts and lunch, with the car parked and the family on foot. Sunday: a slower day, perhaps the village and an early dinner. Monday: leave by mid-morning to beat the return crush, or book the late-afternoon departure and enjoy a last morning.
That plan only works if the return is booked as carefully as the arrival. The most common regret is a booked outbound car and a Monday-afternoon scramble for a ride.
Booking early and changing plans
Long weekends consume vehicles, drivers and good pickup times. Book as soon as flights are confirmed. The online booker shows the all-in price for your exact addresses, and the fleet page shows what each vehicle carries. The limo rates page lists the rate card in full. For a second long weekend later in the year, see the Victoria Day weekend guide.
Frequently asked questions
What day is Family Day in 2027?
Family Day is the third Monday in February, which is 15 February 2027. Nova Scotia (Heritage Day), Manitoba (Louis Riel Day) and Prince Edward Island (Islander Day) observe the same Monday under other names.
Is Family Day a statutory holiday in Ontario?
Yes. Ontario's official guide lists Family Day among its nine public holidays, alongside Good Friday, Victoria Day, Canada Day, Labour Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas Day and Boxing Day.
Is Family Day a holiday in Quebec?
No. Quebec does not have a February holiday, and the school break in the province usually falls in the first week of March. Check your school service centre for the exact week.
How far is Blue Mountain from Toronto Pearson, and how long does the drive take?
The resort quotes about 1 hour 45 minutes from Pearson. A typical road distance is 160 km. Fridays and snowy weekends can add 30 minutes or more.
How much is a limo from Calgary airport to Banff?
For the 130 km run, an Executive Sedan is $605–$720 and a Luxury SUV is $760–$915, before tax. The online booker gives the exact all-in figure for your hotel address. Everyone entering the park also needs a National Park Pass.
Can a family with ski gear fit in one car?
A Luxury SUV carries 6 passengers and 5 to 6 large bags, but skis and boards use space like extra suitcases. For five people with full ski gear, the Executive Sprinter is usually the safer booking.
Do you provide child seats on Family Day weekend?
Child seats are free if you request them at booking. Add each child's age and weight to the booking notes so the right seat is fitted.
Is the Rideau Canal Skateway open on Family Day?
It depends on the ice. The NCC says the season usually runs from January to early March, weather permitting. Check the live ice conditions on the morning you plan to skate.
Should I take the train instead of a limo?
For one or two travellers with light luggage going to a downtown hotel, the UP Express from Pearson is quick and inexpensive. For families, ski trips or late arrivals, a private car is usually the easier day.
