A Forillon National Park chauffeur is a different proposition from most of the park guides on this site, because Forillon is far from everything. Parks Canada's "How to get here" page puts the park 700 km from Québec City and 350 km from the New Brunswick border, and its introduction gives a longer figure of 770 km, depending on the starting point. A routing check from Québec City Jean Lesage airport (YQB) to the park measures about 700 km and roughly ten hours of driving. That journey in an Executive Sedan is $3,255–$3,885 before tax.

There is a shorter way to do it, and we say so plainly below. Parks Canada puts Michel-Pouliot Gaspé Airport 43 km from the park's South Area entrance, and a chauffeured sedan on that run is $200–$240. Parks Canada's Forillon pages are the source for the dates, distances and fees below, read in October 2026.

Is Forillon National Park worth the journey?

Yes, if you want cliffs, forest and sea in one place and will plan around distance. Forillon covers almost 245 km² at the tip of the Gaspé Peninsula, with whale cruises, the Grande-Grave heritage site and Cap Bon-Ami. The sensible plan is to fly into Gaspé or make the drive a multi-day trip.

Parks Canada describes the park as almost 245 km² of sea, cliffs and forest, with an address at 122 Gaspé Boulevard, Gaspé. It invites visitors to listen to fishing stories at the Grande-Grave heritage site, to watch whales blow, and to hike the Les Graves trail. Its photography features the cliffs of Cap Bon-Ami at sunrise and pebble beaches along the shore. Feeding wildlife is strictly prohibited.

Forillon is not a park for a day trip from a major airport. It is a park for people who have chosen the Gaspé Peninsula as the destination.

Be honest about the distance: three ways to do it

Before you book, compare the realistic options.

Cliffs on the Gaspé coast
Cliffs on the Gaspé coast
  1. Fly to Gaspé and hire a car for the last 43 km. This is the quickest. Parks Canada says the Michel-Pouliot Gaspé Airport is 43 km from the South Area entrance. Check current flights with the airlines that serve Gaspé, since schedules change.
  2. Take a multi-day chauffeured drive from Québec City. About 700 km along Highway 132 East is roughly ten hours of driving, which is a full day with breaks. It suits travellers who want to see the Gaspé coast, stop in villages and arrive rested.
  3. Use public transport for part of it. Parks Canada says the park is accessible by Autocar from various cities in Québec, and that from the town of Gaspé you can use the regional collective transportation.

Our role is clearest in options one and two. The first is a short airport transfer; the second is a long private journey that costs what a long journey costs.

Executive Sprinter12 to 14 passengers, 12+ bagsabout 700 km, about 10 hours plus breaks$5,775–$6,930

At this distance the fare is simply kilometres times the per-kilometre rate on the rates page, before tax, tolls and gratuity. A run of this length is a day's work for the chauffeur, so you should expect the booker to show the exact fare, and a one-way return journey is a separate leg. Tell us at booking if you plan to stop overnight en route, and the plan will be built around it. Start from Québec City airport or from a hotel in the old city; the Québec City cruise terminal is another common starting point for travellers extending a river cruise.

When to go: the 2026 season and its end

The park remains accessible all year, but Parks Canada says hiking trails and infrastructure are not maintained off-season and the gates at the north and south areas close after the first snow. Its 2026 hours page shows:

  • Gates (North and South areas): from 8 am from 23 August to 9 October, and from 9 am from 10 to 12 October.
  • Visitor Information and Discovery Centre: from 9 am, 23 August to 12 October.
  • Hyman & Sons general store at Grande-Grave: 10 am to 4 pm from 7 September to 12 October.
  • Camping: Des-Rosiers from 29 May to 12 October, Petit-Gaspé from 19 June to 12 October, the oTENTik units in the north area from 29 May to 12 October.
  • Whale-watching cruises from Grande-Grave: 1 June to 23 October 2026, operated by Croisières Baie de Gaspé; times are on the operator's website.

So if you read this in early October, you have days, not weeks, of the full season, and a visit after 12 October means no staffed services and no maintained trails. Plan next year's trip for late June to early September for the full programme, or September for quieter weather and cruises.

Fees follow a seasonal scale. In the peak season, 25 June to 1 September 2026, Parks Canada lists $10.00 for an adult, $8.75 for a senior, free for youth and $19.50 for a family or group. In the shoulder season, 30 May to 24 June and 2 September to 13 October, the figures are $7.25, $6.25 and $13.75. The Discovery Pass for adults is $83.50. The fees page is the reference.

What to see: cliffs, whales, the boardwalk and the end of the land

Parks Canada's activities page names several highlights:

  • Cap Bon-Ami: the cliffs appear in the park's boat-tour photography, and a boat tour is listed among the activities at sea.
  • Whale watching: cruises run from Grande-Grave through the dates above, and the park invites visitors to watch whales blow.
  • Penouille: a wooden boardwalk, the energy trail, beside a salt marsh, with kitesurfing offered nearby.
  • Beaches: pebble beaches line much of the shore.
  • Cycling: the Du Banc trail is listed for cyclists.
  • Sea kayaking: listed among activities at sea, although the 2026 hours page shows the kayaking excursion closed for the season.
  • Les Graves and Cap-Gaspé: Parks Canada lists the Cap-Gaspé trail among hiking options, and regional tourism listings describe Les Graves as an 8 km round trip taking two to three hours at an intermediate level. Confirm on the Parks Canada trail page.

A one-day plan from a Gaspé base

If you are staying in or near Gaspé, a sensible day starts with the Visitor Information and Discovery Centre, moves to Grande-Grave for the heritage site, the Hyman & Sons store and the whale cruise, takes a walk at Cap-Gaspé or Cap Bon-Ami, and ends at a pebble beach or the Penouille boardwalk. A chauffeur is useful here for a single reason: the park is long and narrow, so you can be dropped at one trailhead and collected at another instead of retracing your route.

North area, south area: choosing a base

Parks Canada's hours page splits the park into a North area and a South area, each with its own gate. The distinction matters when you choose where to sleep and where to be dropped.

  • South area. Parks Canada's page measures the airport distance to this entrance. It lists the Petit-Gaspé campground and the South area oTENTik units here (19 June to 12 October in 2026), and Penouille, with its boardwalk, is listed separately.
  • North area. The Des-Rosiers campground, the North area oTENTik units and the Croisières Forillon cruises are listed here. In 2026 the Des-Rosiers campground and the North area oTENTik units run from 29 May to 12 October, while the Croisières Forillon cruises and Penouille shop had already closed for the season.
  • Grande-Grave hosts the Hyman & Sons store and the whale cruise.

A simple two-day plan is to land in Gaspé on day one, be driven 43 km to the South area, walk the Penouille boardwalk and check in. On day two, take the whale cruise from Grande-Grave, then be driven on to Cap Bon-Ami for the cliffs, with collection wherever your next night is booked. The fare for each leg is shown in the booker.

Stops, toll booths and pay points

Stop only in marked lots at trailheads and viewpoints, and do not feed or approach wildlife. Parks Canada gives a 24-hour dispatch line for reporting illegal activity in the park. Pay the day fee at the toll booths as you enter. Fees go to Parks Canada and are separate from our fare.

Combining Forillon with Québec City and the road east

A Forillon trip can start with days in the provincial capital. Our Québec City weekend guide and Old Québec walking guide cover the city. On the way back west, Montmorency Falls and Île d'Orléans make an easy half-day, and the forest and lakes of La Mauricie National Park are an alternative if 700 km is more than your itinerary allows.

Families and groups on the long road

On a ten-hour journey a family of four is much more comfortable in the Luxury SUV than in a three-seat sedan. Children's seats are free, but must be requested at the time of booking. A group of ten to fourteen needs an Executive Sprinter, and the fleet page shows the other options. For a ten-hour journey, the larger vehicles give more room for children and luggage.

Gaspé coast weather: what to pack

The Gaspé coast is exposed to the sea, so bring a windproof layer, a warm hat and waterproof footwear even in summer. In late autumn the gates close after the first snow, so build flexibility into any late-season plan.
