A Château Laurier limo is the quiet way to arrive at one of Ottawa's best-known addresses: 1 Rideau Street, between the ByWard Market and the Rideau Canal locks, with Parliament Hill in sight from many rooms. This is an arrival guide for guests of the Fairmont hotel. LimousineCanada.ca is an independent chauffeur service with no affiliation with the hotel or with Fairmont, and the details about the property below come from the hotel's own website and from Parks Canada.

How much is a limo from Ottawa airport to the Château Laurier?

Ottawa's airport is about 15 km and 20 minutes from the Château Laurier, so the minimum transfer applies: $145–$175 in an Executive Sedan, $180–$220 in a Luxury SUV and $295–$355 in an Executive Sprinter, before tax. From the VIA Rail station it is about 5 km and 8 minutes, at the same minimum. The booker confirms the exact fare.

Under the rate card the per-kilometre figure for 15 km is well below the minimum, so the minimum governs both the airport and the train station. Distances beyond the city are priced by the kilometre, and the table further down gives Montréal, Toronto and Gatineau Park as examples.

Château Laurier limo from Ottawa International Airport

The airport's ground transportation page is clear about where a pre-arranged luxury vehicle waits: pillars 12 and 13 on the curb, which the airport also uses for rideshare pickups. Taxis queue outside the centre door, and hotel shuttles use pillars 13 to 15. Your chauffeur will message the pillar and the plate before you reach the curb, and with flight tracking in place a delayed arrival does not change the pickup. Free waiting after landing is 60 minutes on international flights and 30 minutes on domestic ones. Meet and greet inside the arrivals hall is an add-on at $100–$150.

Downtown Ottawa
Downtown Ottawa

The drive into the city runs about 15 km and takes around 20 minutes outside rush hour, longer when Bronson or the Queensway is busy. If you would rather not meet your driver at the curb, ask for the name-board option at booking. See the Ottawa airport page for terminal-level detail.

The airport also lists public alternatives. The O-Train's Line 4 runs from the airport to South Keys station between 6 am and midnight, and Bus 105 runs 24 hours a day at 30-minute intervals. Both usually involve a change on the way to the core, so they suit solo travellers with a single bag rather than a couple with luggage. Details are on the airport's ground transportation page.

Château Laurier limo from the VIA Rail station

Ottawa's VIA Rail station is at 200 Tremblay Road, about 4 km from downtown according to VIA. The station has a curbside zone directly in front of the main entrance, and it lists taxis, Uber and Lyft, plus connections to the O-Train and city buses. A pre-booked chauffeur removes the wait, particularly when you arrive on a train from Montréal or Toronto with luggage. The fare is the $145–$175 sedan minimum for the 5 km run to Rideau Street. VIA has posted construction notices affecting parts of the parking lots, so allow a moment longer to find your car, and keep the chauffeur's mobile number handy. Our Ottawa station page has the full arrival routine.

Pulling up at 1 Rideau Street

The hotel gives its address as 1 Rideau Street, K1N 8S7. Check-in is at 4:00 p.m. and check-out at noon. The hotel says its valet parking is limited and for overnight guests only, charged at $67.80 per day with taxes included and in-and-out privileges; self-parking for restaurant and day guests is a short walk away. The practical advice is that the chauffeur drops you at the entrance the hotel's staff direct them to, unloads your bags, and moves on. You do not need a parking plan, because the car does not stay.

The Rideau Canal in Ottawa
The Rideau Canal in Ottawa

The hotel stands across from the former Union Railway station and, according to Parks Canada, overlooks the Ottawa River and the Rideau Canal in Confederation Square. That means Rideau Street can be crowded on Canada Day, during Winterlude and at parliamentary events. On those days we recommend giving the chauffeur an extra ten minutes and letting the driver choose the approach.

Hourly chauffeur rates for an Ottawa day

Ottawa is compact, and the sights are often 10 to 20 minutes apart. An hourly booking with a driver who waits is easier than a string of short transfers, and the fares below do not change with the number of stops.

Ottawa options compared: car, taxi, rideshare and O-Train

In Ottawa the cheapest way is sometimes the right one, and the table says so.

HowCostJourney timeSuits
Private car (LimousineCanada.ca)$145–$175 sedan from the airportAbout 20 minCouples, families, luggage, late arrivals, certainty
Taxi from the rankMetered fareAbout 20 minSpontaneous arrivals with no booking

Bus 105A public transit fareLongerOvernight arrivals when trains have stopped
Self-driveRental plus valet at $67.80 per dayAbout 20 minGuests who also tour outside Ottawa

If you are travelling alone with a carry-on and the schedule suits the train, public transit is the cheapest option and perfectly reasonable. If you are travelling as a couple with two cases, the private car's value rises. For the deeper comparison with apps, see limo versus rideshare.

What the Château Laurier is known for

Parks Canada designates the hotel a National Historic Site. It records construction between 1908 and 1912, with later enlargement in the 1920s, and describes a Château-style building in pale Indiana limestone with steep copper roofs, turrets and Gothic details, designed by Ross and MacFarlane of Montréal from plans by New York's Bradford Lee Gilbert. The hotel's own site notes its ballroom as the original 1912 room. The hotel promotes an indoor art-deco pool, a spa called Relax Luxe, and the restaurant Zoe's, which also serves afternoon tea, along with La Terrasse. Some rooms look toward Parliament Hill or the canal locks.

Weddings and events at the Château Laurier

The hotel's events pages list a Ballroom of 546 square metres, the oval Adam Room, the Laurier Room, the Drawing Room and the Renaissance Room, which looks over the Rideau Canal and Parliament Hill, with capacities ranging from about 30 to 500 guests depending on the room. The hotel does not name a dedicated ceremony space, so ask the planning team where ceremonies take place. For transport, a bridal party usually needs one stretch limousine or Sprinter for the day, plus a small shuttle for family from other hotels. The wedding limo page lays out a typical timeline, and if the reception ends late we can stage a quiet departure at the Rideau Street entrance.

Government, diplomatic and corporate travel

Ottawa's calendar is full of delegations, conferences and ministerial visits. For corporate guests we operate on account with receipts, and chauffeurs can be briefed on discretion. Read the corporate car service page for details, and see Ottawa limo for city-wide pricing. Arriving by jet, the Ottawa private aviation page explains the FBO route.

Festival and holiday dates, plus winter on the canal

Canada Day, Winterlude, Bluesfest and Remembrance Day all change traffic near the hotel. Read the Canada Day in Ottawa, Winterlude, Bluesfest and Remembrance Day guides before you book, and give us the event so the chauffeur plans the approach. Our Parliament Hill guide covers tours and the changing of the guard.

Gatineau Park, Montréal and other runs from the capital

The Mackenzie King Estate in Gatineau Park is about 15 km away and the park's Champlain area about 20 km; see the Gatineau Park guide. Montréal is about 199 km and 2 h 30 min away, so a day trip is feasible but long; read Ottawa to Montréal by car and, for the longer drive south and west, Toronto to Ottawa. If you are staying in the capital and then heading to Québec, compare with Fairmont The Queen Elizabeth in Montréal and the hotels and resorts hub.

Ottawa winters are cold, and the canal that Winterlude turns into a skateway runs right below the hotel. A heavy storm can slow the airport run. Build in a buffer for departures, and if you are leaving for the airport in the early morning, book the night before so your chauffeur can check conditions.

Short hops from Rideau Street

Ottawa's central sights are close enough that a car is often the wrong tool. Parliament Hill is about 0.9 km and 2 minutes from the hotel by road, the National Gallery about 1.4 km and 3 minutes, the Canadian Museum of Nature about 1.8 km and 5 minutes, the Canadian War Museum about 2.5 km and 5 minutes, LeBreton Flats about 2.6 km and 5 minutes and Rideau Hall about 4.1 km and 7 minutes.

All of these trips are below the minimum transfer, which is $145–$175 in a sedan. For a single hop to Parliament Hill you should walk. A car makes sense for late-night returns, for guests who find the cold or a long dress difficult, or for a day with several stops, where two hours on an hourly booking at $270–$330 in a sedan is cheaper than three minimum transfers at $435–$525.
