A Fairmont Chateau Whistler limo takes the Sea-to-Sky Highway out of your arrival day. Whistler is a long way from the runway: Whistler's own site puts the drive from Vancouver International Airport at about 135 km and two to two and a half hours, so the first hours of a ski or golf holiday are spent on a mountain road. LimousineCanada.ca meets the flight, loads the skis and does the driving.

LimousineCanada.ca runs independently of the hotel, Fairmont and Whistler Blackcomb, and this page does not imply any endorsement from them. Facts about the property come from its own pages as we read them, and facts about the road come from tourism and highway sources.

Vancouver to Whistler by limo: what the trip involves

The Sea-to-Sky Highway, Highway 99, leaves Vancouver by the Lions Gate Bridge and runs north along Howe Sound through Squamish. Squamish's tourism office lists Squamish to downtown Vancouver at 64 km and 55 minutes, and Squamish to Whistler at 60 km and 45 minutes. That is about 124 km from downtown to Whistler, and the airport adds roughly 11 km more.

On a clear weekday you can cover the distance in about two hours. On a Friday afternoon in ski season, the first half of the journey can double in length. Whistler Blackcomb's own driving page says traffic is heaviest on weekends and at peak times and suggests leaving earlier or later, or driving on a weekday. A chauffeur does not change the traffic, but does let you read, work or sleep through it.

How far is Fairmont Chateau Whistler from Vancouver airport?

Whistler Village in winter
Whistler Village in winter

Whistler is about 135 km from Vancouver International Airport by road, which takes roughly two to two and a half hours in normal conditions. A pre-booked Executive Sedan costs about $630–$750 before tax, a Luxury SUV $790–$950 and an Executive Sprinter $1,115–$1,335.

Treat two hours as the best case and allow more on winter weekends, holidays and storm days. The hotel is at 4599 Chateau Boulevard, at the foot of Blackcomb Mountain, so there is no further drive once you reach the base of the resort. Our Vancouver airport limo page explains the pickup at YVR, and our Vancouver to Whistler route page compares every way to make the trip.

The per-kilometre ranges in the rate card apply to this trip, rounded to the nearest $5. Anything past about 35 km moves off the minimum fare for all three vehicles.

All figures are before tax, with tolls and gratuity extra. We track your flight and allow 60 minutes of free waiting after an international landing, or 30 minutes after a domestic one, so a long customs queue does not cost you more. A name-board greeting in the arrivals hall is an add-on of $100–$150, and child seats are free when requested at booking. The booker gives the exact all-in fare, and the rates page shows the full card.

Winter on Highway 99: tires, timing and weekend traffic

Highway 99 is a mountain road, and the rules that apply to your car in winter are not optional. Squamish's tourism office says road conditions can change quickly, particularly in autumn and winter, and advises winter tires and a check of DriveBC from October 1 to April 30. Whistler Blackcomb's driving guide gives October 1 to March 31, a mountain-and-snowflake or M+S marking and at least 3.5 mm of tread. The end date differs between sources, so confirm it if you are driving yourself in spring.

Whistler Blackcomb also lists variable speed limits on Highway 99 that are enforced in poor weather, along with DriveBC, highway webcams and radio updates. For passengers, the practical meaning is to leave extra time on the day of a snowfall and to avoid scheduling a same-day connection on departure. We reconfirm pickups by message and adjust the schedule when a storm is forecast.

Arriving at the foot of Blackcomb

The hotel's website describes a ski-in/ski-out property at the foot of Blackcomb Mountain, with check-in at 4:00 p.m. and check-out at 11:00 a.m. Early check-in and late check-out are available on request, subject to availability and possible fees. If your flight lands in the morning, ask for early check-in when you book, or arrange luggage storage and a lunch stop.

Parking is indoor, with about 400 spaces, at an additional fee. The hotel's pages do not mention valet. Whistler Village is pedestrian-only, according to Whistler Blackcomb, and most accommodation sits at one of three base areas, so a car is not needed once you arrive. Your chauffeur drops you at the hotel and the car leaves; there is no parking bill to carry.

Bus, rental car, shuttle or private car

The best option depends on how many people are travelling, what they carry and what the weather is doing. This comparison uses the operators' and tourism offices' own statements.

Private car with chauffeur$630–$750 sedan; $790–$950 SUV from YVRAbout 2 to 2.5 hFamilies, groups, ski luggage, storm days

If you travel alone and your schedule fits, a coach is the cheaper choice, and we would not argue otherwise. Where the car wins is the shared cost: six people in a Luxury SUV at $790–$950 pay roughly $130–$160 each, with luggage included. Winter tire rules also matter if you rent, so confirm that the rental includes compliant tires before you book one. Our limo versus rideshare guide explains why a standard app is not a practical tool for this distance.

What a car is for when you can ski to the door

At a ski-in/ski-out hotel, the car does not carry you to the slopes. It handles the parts around them: the arrival and departure legs, ski and snowboard bags that will not fit in a sedan, an evening dinner in the village when the weather is poor, and the day trips to Squamish and back. The Luxury SUV takes five to six large bags with six passengers, but a ski bag and boot bag per person means you should count them. A family of four with ski gear is usually more comfortable in an SUV than a sedan.

For groups, an Executive Sprinter seats 12 to 14 with over a dozen bags and suits a wedding party or corporate retreat. See the Sprinter rental page for details.

What the hotel is known for

The hotel lists 519 guest rooms and suites. It describes a championship golf course designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr. and a spa named Vida Spa, along with a slopeside health club and fitness centre. The Wildflower serves a breakfast buffet and the Mallard Lounge hosts Friday après events, known as Fairmont Fridays, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. The hotel's pages also list separate restaurant, bar and breakfast sections.

Small pets are welcome at CAD $50 plus applicable taxes per day, with beds and bowls on request, though pets are not allowed in the Fairmont Gold Penthouse Suites. Service dogs are allowed free of charge. If an animal is travelling with you, tell us at booking so we can confirm the vehicle.

Weddings, meetings and social events

The hotel advertises weddings under the heading "Say 'I Do' At The Chateau", as well as meetings and conferences and social events. Mountain weddings put a lot of weight on transport, since guests arrive from an airport two hours away on a schedule the ceremony does not forgive.

A typical wedding transport plan has an Executive Sprinter shuttle bringing family and guests from Vancouver the day before, and a stretch limousine for the couple on the day at $225–$300 an hour with a 3-hour minimum. Our wedding limo page sets out the sequence. For corporate groups, a Sprinter loop on arrival day and a second on departure replaces a dozen taxis, and our corporate car service page explains accounts and invoicing.

Holiday weekends and busy dates

Whistler's busiest days are predictable. The hotel itself lists a Thanksgiving Weekend programme running October 9 to 12, 2026, and the holiday weekends around it bring the heaviest Friday departures from Vancouver. Our Thanksgiving weekend travel guide, Family Day guide and March Break guide explain how airports and highways behave on those dates.

A road through autumn maple trees

The advice is the same each time: book early, leave at an off-peak hour, and choose a vehicle with room for gear. A pre-booked return on the Sunday is more valuable than a flexible Monday morning, because weekend afternoons are when the highway is at its busiest.

Summer and shoulder seasons

The hotel's course and spa operate beyond the ski season, and summer brings golf, hiking and lake days. Lighter traffic on weekdays shortens the drive, and the road is clear of snow, though construction can slow the highway at any time of year. Check DriveBC on the morning of travel.

The scenic stops on the way, including the waterfalls and the gondola near Squamish, are in our Whistler village and Sea-to-Sky guide. An hourly Luxury SUV at $175–$210 per hour, with a 2-hour minimum, lets you stop where you like on the way up or down.

Returning to the airport

On your departure day, work back from your flight. Leave Whistler with at least two and a half hours for the drive plus the time your airline asks for at the airport, and add extra in winter. For an international flight, a morning departure from Whistler is usually safer than a midday one. We confirm the pickup time the evening before, and we track delays so the car arrives when planned.

If you are connecting to a private flight, see our YVR private aviation page. If you are staying in the city before or after Whistler, the Vancouver limo page covers the local services.

Vehicles, luggage and cancellation

The Executive Sedan holds three passengers with two large bags and two carry-ons. The Luxury SUV holds six with five to six large bags. The Executive Sprinter holds 12 to 14 with more than a dozen bags. See the fleet page.

Cancellation is measured from the scheduled pickup time. A change with more than 72 hours' notice is free. At 72 hours or less we charge 10%, at 48 hours or less 50%, and at 24 hours or less, or on a no-show, 100%.
